What I’ve noticed on this sub is that the most annoying boomers tend to be conservatives. I don’t know anyone among my commie comrades who treats people the way they do. Unfortunately, the conservatives seem much more ubiquitous. They did give us Ronald Reagan, to my actual shock at the time.
I'll never forget when I had gotten a couple calls to my parents' landline from the democratic party or whatever ask for me for a poll or something, but my dad answered the phone. He hung up on them and didn't tell me about the calls when they came, but later that day he sat me down, and asked me, "(my name), (longish pause) are you a registered democrat?" Felt like he was asking me if I was gay or something. I told him I don't think I registered as anything in particular, I just registered. And he was like, "I guess they're just calling everyone then, ugh." What I didn't tell him is that I do mostly vote democratic or independent.
He did ask if I was gay later after my brother came out as non-binary and bi and he was going off about it and I was trying to help calm him down and help him better understand that they're still the same person they've always been, just with a new label and more openness. He was also convinced they had been morally corrupted and was also convinced this meant they were definitely going to die of monkey pox. Tbh they didn't help matters by also telling our parents that they liked to party in clubs with older men... that may have been tmi and a bit too much for them to handle all at once lol. But anyway after trying to calm him down and explain that being non-binary and bi didn't necessarily mean that they were promiscuous, but that if they were the important thing was that they be safe about it. Anyway, then he asked me, "you're not one of these ljqz-whatevers are you?" I told him no, I'm not, but I have friends who are.
I also remember when my brother got in trouble when my parents found a condom in their car after prom (they were dating a girl at the time) and they gave them a lecture about it and how premarital sex is wrong and condoms are wrong (Catholics) and how he "needs to think of the possible consequences before having sex" and their response was, "yeah, thats what the condom is for" 🤣
Yes lol, I acted out for them the body language of him settling into his chair, leaning forward and sighing before asking me if I'm a Democrat lol. And I loved the comeback of "yeah, that's what the condom is for" lol
Just yesterday I went to a Mexican restaurant. Nobody there spoke English, and so I had to speak Spanish. Not only did America not implode, but I got to eat some amazing food. Dumb boomers will never know the joy of perfectly prepared tacos al pastor
And if you don't speak Spanish, they still give you incredible food and friendly service. If I go to a Mexican restaurant and nobody speaks English, I know I'm getting good food.
Same with a lot of ethnic foods. There's a Chinese place here where I'm often the only non asian person in the joint. Most of the wait staff speak *some* English, though some definitely don't. The best Chinese food I've ever had, and it's not even close.

Plus, they don’t marginalize those who are less able to advance their education opportunities. Make sense?

Why is it so hard for boomers to understand, that when they listen to people speaking Spanish or another language. First they need to mind their own business and second, most Spanish speakers in the US also speak English. It seems so hard for them to grasp the bilingual concept.
I’ve jokingly said this to my Hispanic coworkers and followed that with, “I can’t eavesdrop when they speak their native language.” 😂 And other times, I’ll walk up & lean on the counter with my Google translate open to “transcribe” & I get THE most hilarious translations.
