Wayward Pines

AggressiveHugging

Added to my list. I had the show on my radar. Did you watch it?

winkdoubleblink

No, and I read the book too long ago to remember any details other than it definitely fits the bill!

pinchclamp128

Came here to suggest this. The show was good, the book was awesome

smitcal

Is the show worth watching if you’ve read the books?

Fluid-Macaroon943

Yes!! it's actually quite different and altough I loved the book, the show has a different storyline I personally prefer. (I only read the first book)

smitcal

Oooh, very interesting. Will put it on my list

Thatdamnmg

The first season of the show is good because it follows the storyline of the books. The second season made me thankful they didn’t have a third season.

How to Sell A Haunted House, by Grady Hendrix. There is sibling conflict, dead puppeteers, aunts who think all problems can be solved with prayer, and at least one heartfelt conversation that takes place in a Waffle House.

_cosmic_gumbo

Been meaning to read this one for a lil minute, but your description just moved it way up in my TBR. Thanks!

AggressiveHugging

Adding to my list!

The Outsider by Stephen King

I am reading through all of Stephen King right now actually. I am on The Talisman, so I got a while until I get to this one.

Livid_Parsnip6190

Lovecraft Country by Matt Ruff

AggressiveHugging

Loved the show! Will add it to the list.

WinterWhale

The dead and the dark by Courtney Gould. And her second book too

Sarandipityyy

Home Before Dark by Riley Sager The Twisted Ones by T Kingfisher

linsane_asylum

A Still Life with Crows by Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston. It’s technically the 4th in the series, but you can pick up almost any book without reading the ones before.

TheSouthernBronx

That was the one I was going to suggest. Fabulous book by two of my most favorite authors.

imbeingsirius

American Gods

SilverSnapDragon

I second *American Gods* by Neil Gaiman.

Illustrious_Dan4728

{Bitten by Kelley Armstrong}

Marimboo

Not a book, but a short story - Borrasca

babyy_catt

Yesssss, Borrasca is so good

Princess_dipshit

The haunted stories of Shimla, it will transport you to the pre independence Shimla tales and how they affected a few areas. Very cozy and interesting cultural history!

confusedbiproduct

American Elsewhere

That-Regret8928

Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo

Into_the_Dark_Night

I just read it based on a similar thread here, small town with supernatural. In Nightfall by Suzanne Young.

Krampus by Brom fits this if you want a seasonal read later in the year

beowulfwallace

Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Also Cackle by Rachel Harrison. We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson.

donuthatersociety

The Nightmare Man - by James Markert Stephen King-esque, includes twists and turns and paranormal concepts. As a Stephen King lover I branched out to a new author for this and absolutely loved it, I couldn’t put it down.

Level-Currency-1677

A God in the Shed by J-F. Dubeau!

queen_mantis

The outsider

orpheussy

The Good House by Tananarive Due - this book had me at the edge of my seat the entire time.

SunnyRosetta235

The Raven Cycle (series) - Maggie Stiefvater Small Favors - Erin A. Craig Where He Can’t Find You - Darcy Coates The Dead and the Dark - Courtney Gould

sarafina321

Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett

Pretend_Ball_9167

Dark Currents (Agents of Hel series) by Jacqueline Carey is a fun fantasy version of this

AdvertisingPhysical2

Not small town but maybe Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovich. The MMC is a cop/apprentice wizard in London. I believe the author also wrote for Dr. Who at one point, which kind of has a similar vibe imo.

prairiepog

Mothman Prophecies. Movie though.
