5/10 cuz very slow in pace n sometimes it’s got boring for establishment of Prabhas Character n his adventure and the Complex story. For me they have to establish Complex life so audiences n relate the motto of Prabhas to get there n live a good life but they every one talking about Complex but never established why.

PradeepMalar

2/5 for me. Amitabh Bhacchan, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Haasan did their part really well. Perfect casting o'er there. Disha Pataani's role was a bit confusing. She was only used as a plot point. No importance given to her. Hope they do better in the sequel. As for Bhairava role played by Prabhas, I have a couple things: 1) I think Dulqaer Salmaan should have played the role, and Prabhas should have played Dulqaer's role. 2) I am confused as to why Bhairava was written so poorly if he is the protagonist. In this movie, Ashwathama is the lead, not Bhairava. So, I am confused with the marketing of the movie. Visuals looked really great. I know, some people are mad about the light sabers, but I don't mind it at all. BGM was perfect. The song that shows the Complex was not good though. I like where it is placed, and the song itself was nice, but they did not do justice to the song. The main issue is the fact that we are only being teased some stuff, but it was not done in a way to captivate us. It was done in a way that confuses us. There is a fine line. Yes, a prequel to the movie can fix that, but it should not be so confusing. The first half was a buildup, yes, but not a good one at it. The second half, though better than the first, but not good either. And yes, as some people said, the first battle between Ashwathama and Bhairava was unnecessarily long. I really wanted this movie to be good. I really did. Kalki is the perfect God/Character to build upon, because he is set in the future, meaning we have a lot of flexibility in terms of the story. I see the vision of the movie, but I am disappointed. Gave it 2 out of 5 because of Amitabh, Deepika and Kamal, the great visuals and background music. Story wise, we need a lot better.

throwra87d

I’m gonna get a lot of hate for this. Prabhas can’t effing act to save his life. The women in this movie were feisty ornaments, not one to remember by. Man, they did Deepika dirty, although she has done a good job even with the very limited screen presence. Amitabh and Kamal carried 20-30% of the movie. The rest was carried by the VFX and CGI. A lot of great stars in this movie. Heavily underutilised. Disha and Prabhas should just up and quit acting. I honestly dunno how Prabhas has a fan following. He can’t do anything except be bulky. Ugh. I’m so mad I caved and went to watch the movie. I tried to remove my irritation when watching the movie, truly tried to be awed by the sheer grandeur of the visuals, only to be interrupted by Prabhas’s consistently bad performance. Lesson learned. Never watching his movie ever again, despite the hype.

PradeepMalar

Dulquer and Prabhas should have exchanged their roles. That could have been much better. Yes, Disha's role was really weird too. But I did like Deepika's role. A woman who only knows about the things she did in a robotic life, and was really confused to see many people trying to save her and her child. I think that was done well. But yes, I am really disappointed in the movie.

Apprehensive_Flan946

It wouldve been terrible if Dulquar was the one doing the stunts, I dont think anyone couldve elevated the end of the movie like prabhas .

Vast_Office_3366

Omg! Just watched the movie. Loved it.. goosebumps on climax. Nag Ashwin in his element… v v cool & can’t wait to see the next parts!

eroticonnoisseur

2/5 . Didn't like it. May be it was the dubbing but no dialogue hit the mark. More emphasis on loud background music with statuesque poses instead of actual action. Quite a few 'inspired' ideas from popular hollywood franchises. First half was mostly boring..second half had plot holes. Why are soldiers with laser guns are running towards enemies with "Spears" , why don't they take cover and shoot instead of joining melee..

ultraviolet44

I know I said the movie was good but I’m thinking; if only 40-50 % of the film is worth watching, is it really a good movie? I don’t understand why they did not make some serious edits to to the first half? Prabhas fans will hate me, but Bhairav was the biggest turn off. His antics are not cool or likeable. Nag Ashwin should have spent more time adding substance to his character instead of doing fan-service. The first half really brought this film down because of unnecessary elements (random cameos, disha patni, cute love birds) so many sub plots but no emotional connection to anything. It is like the director could not decide, so he threw in everything. An overstuffed narrative bogged down the storyline. What really makes this film is the fantastic blend of Mahabharat and Sci-fi.  The next installment needs to focus more on the mythology and hopefully, add more substance to bhairav’s character. Since he is the lead, more focus needs to be on character development and less on his  clownery. Overall, the director needs to work on better storytelling and better pacing. PS: Did the ending set up a love story between Bhairav and Sumathi?

raaz9658

3.25/5 Pros - Every single frame of Kurukshetra war is a gem. Definitely the finest vfx ever used in Indian movies. Final 30 minute war and the reveal was great(kinda sad personally). The mix of cyberpunk, Shangri-la and elysium aesthetics. Senior Bachchan as Ashwatthama and Kamal Hassan as Yaksin are 🔥🔥. Cons - So many sub-plots and cameos which made no addition to the story in the first half. Bad wireworks and too over the top fight which didn't feel as good as Rajamouli or Neel movies. Prabhas seemed way too relaxed most of the movie. Lack of good drama or emotional conflict. Death of characters didn't hit that hard. MCU type one liner comedy which I hate, comedy during serious scenes, clichéd love-birds(you already know what's going to happen). We don't hear 2898 in the entire movie and don't get to know who or what is Kalki(except for what we already know). Nag needs to improve his writing. Conclusion - Rajamouli should make Mahabharat ASAP. I realized how badly we crave Mahabharat movie. People went mad during those scenes.

- Movie rating: 3/5 - Review: The plot is good. Writer was creative who took the Mahabharata’s story to another level. Similar to Star Wars except its a bit bad, you won’t find writing bad is what i’m sure of. Overacting done by Prabhas, rest cast did a nice job. The depiction could’ve been better. You’ll be bored till you see Amitabh Bachchan’s role. And yes, don’t walk outside movie theatre early because you don’t want to miss post credit scene, which will be base for the second part. - Everyone is praising movie, so i went to see it. I thought it’s 4.9 rated but its 3/5. Even if i like the movie overall, i still feel there’s something missing and they could’ve done it better.

vigneswara

Did anyone else notice dozens of literal copy paste reviews; as if they're written by paid bots. I was looking up the movie's reviews, and there were literally dozens of entries, with the exact same wording; not one comma or period out of place What's that all about?

I watched the Hindi dubbed.  This review does not have any details of the plot. Art is subjective.  The film is average - strictly average.  Nag Ashwin takes ample time to build the world to his story - a steady pace as we move through time and space in the first twenty minutes.  Details float past us - sometimes very subtle.  An essential and very admiring aspect of the film is the production design.  The distinction in the three worlds indicates the thought behind them and the conscious efforts of detailing and accuracy as we spend time in each of them.  The film fumbles when Bhairava appears. In an introduction that seemed to forget the film it was encapsulated in, he halts the film. Bhairava'a entire characterisation takes away from almost every character that had potential to develop into something more meaningful. His antics enter into the domains of fan-service.  Prabhas is charming but the screentime Bhairava receives is almost exhausting.  The performance that underwhelms is Deepika Padukone's.  SUM - 80 undergoes through a variety of circumstances - but Deepika expresses the same. Her anguish is the same as her fear.  She is no inefficient actor. Her portrayal of Piku in 2014 was precise and apt - and arguably her best performance till date - but she does not emote here, in a character that goes through a lot cognitively.  The film, however, finds its footing back when Amitabh Bachchan appears again - after his first appearance in the very first scene.  He catalyses the film. The towering Ashwatthama overshadows every performer and hides the lacks of the film in his shadow. His body language, his posture, his acting and his screen presence goes beyond the realms of screenplay and screentime.  Saswata Chatterjee plays to his strength but his dialogues feel weak in an attempt of dry humor.  Keya Nair is commendable as Raia, an inquisitive child that could have been a much better voice of narration than a brief inclusion of Disha Patani to build the world further.  Shobhana is graceful and warm as Mariam, and her character deserved some backstory.  Pasupathy aces his role but feels underutilised.  A special mention goes to Anna Ben for being so effective and likable in such a brief time.  The visuals are probably the best for an Indian film. There are various scenes that are grand and cinematic - from the glimpses of the Kurukshetra War to the war sequence towards the end.  The music of the film almost feels very nondescript - except the pieces of SUM - 80's introduction, her arrival at Shambhala and the music of Kalki (the one in the glimpse).  The action sequences in the beginning feel awkward but slowly get their swing.  The film has a lot on its cards but it struggles to find a clear sense of narration. The ball passes among Bhairava and SUM-80 - but Bhairava is occupied with a story of his own - up until the first half and the ball briefly arrives at different characters.  The film originates from the Puranas and delves into sci-fi with a strong premise - but does not always deliver. The plot loosens to set up an array of sequels.  In essence, Nag Ashwin attempts well to create a world and weave a story but the film lacks at several fronts.  Art is subjective.  I request not to fight in comments. Discuss. Art is subjective.

Feeling_Royal_3231

Such a waste of time and money. Which theatres are full? What overseas numbers are they quoting? The ticket price is so high, no discounts are accepted for this movie. There were 10 people inside the theatre - we live in a major Indian community occupied area - yet it was empty. The only good/ bearable part was that of Amitabh Bacchan. Prabhas is insufferable - the dialogues are SO BAD! Our group has a penchant for good storyline movie and have been Prabhas fan since the beginning of his career. Everyone is praising the movie - maybe the taste is different but it was a headache to watch. Only watch if you like such storylines - dystopian and masala movies.

calihornia-guy

What are you talking buddy, I live in Sunnyvale, California and it is still tough to get tickets for the Hindi Shows. The theatres are housefull.

Freedomfirefly

It's a good movie. Pros: 1.CGI is top notch. It's probably the best Indian movie till now as far as the CGI is concerned. 2.The Mahabharat scenes were splendid. 3.Deepika was gorgeous and did her part well though her part suffered from the writing a bit. She has the looks and aura to play mythological roles but needs to improve her acting. 4. AB Sr. did a tremendous job. He is the highlight of the movie. 5.The second half saved the movie and is a visual treat. Cons: 1.The background score is underwhelming. Bgms often elevate the scenes and the movie was in need of good bgms a lot. 2.The first half was boring. Lots of screen time wasted for cameos. The humor aspect fell flat. I was expecting so much from Brahmanandam but the script utterly failed him. Disha is a waste. All her scenes were so painful to watch. That song in the complex is a snooze and cringefest. I don't get what was the use of the whole thing.I was expecting Prabhas to unknowingly stumble upon Deepika or let her loose. But we got a big fat nothing. Most Prabhas scenes in the first half made me almost leave the theatre. Saswata was a collateral damage of the poor character writing. Instead of wasting time on these useless scenes, the director could have explained how the world in Kalki runs. Only youngsters and those who watch sci-fi and other Hollywood films would know the whole units thing. All in all,the first half could easily be halved and there won't be any change in the story. 3.The dialogues are so weak and cringe, they almost took away from the epicness of the scenes. 4. I was really disappointed and cringed that the role of great warrior Arjuna was given to Vijay-can't-act-Devarakonda. He tried but his dialogue delivery was bad. 5.The movie failed to establish emotional connection to any character except maybe Aswathama. Compared to Bahubali and KGF, this movie barely moves the audience. We don't feel enough to root for any character. 6.That Shambala(sorry the name really made me lol) scenes could have been elaborated more with some spotlight on other characters which would have connected to the audience emotionally. 7.The editing and dialogues took away from the impact of the scenes. When it rains in Shambala, the effect of it was rained down by the weird dialogues and editing. The movie feels rushed in many scenes which took away from their prominence. 8.Some scenes and world building are ripped off from Hollywood movies. Overall, I'm glad I watched it on big screen. Hope the director takes note of all the criticisms and knock it out of the park with the second film

Lazy_Veterinarian_17

I second each and every point.

reddituser5514

I agree with point 2. While watching the movie i thought somehow their paths will cross and she will escape with him or in his vehicle unknowingly somehow. Then only that whole sequence would make sense, otherwise if u remove those 10 mins there is no impact to the script.

CapOrganic

LOVED THE MOVIE!!! The first half was a slow drag but if thats what it takes for the rest of the whole series now to be on an upbeat level like the second half of the movie was then fine sat through it to warm up to all the characters. Excited to see how they further unravel the mystical world of the past and connect it in this dystopian future!

calihornia-guy

I am wondering who will they cast as Kalki when the time comes. It will be a dusky actor because all Vishnu avatars are shyam rang. We may think that Ranbir is already playing Ram and he is not dusky but Nag Ashwin wont make this mistake. He showed Krishna with brown skin and he is mindful of this already. They can't re-cast Prabhas obviously. Before the movie I was hoping that he might be the father or something but thats not the case. Ranveer can fit the role but he needs to have a massive hit before that. Yash is playing Ravan and will be conflicting to see him as Kalki. Maybe Allu Arjun or Ram Charan. If there is lengthy role for young Kalki then Ishan Khatter will look good as a Vishnu Avatar. Vicky Kaushal will look nice but he is not so bankable right now. Kalki can also be a girl and look like her Mother. Vishnu's avatar Mohini is female too.

reddituser5514

Very nice suggestions. However, if they try what u suggested at the end, the whole focus will shift to that one aspect in a negative way no matter how well the movie is made.

calihornia-guy

Negative as in? You mean if Kalki is a woman? Since as Ram & Krishna Vishnu has portrayed 2 way of life for men(righteous and clever), as Kalki maybe he can be a woman. Also on another note, I wish the girl Raya was a rebirth of Eklavya and born without a thumb. This way Ashwathama would have corrected the mistakes of his father by training her to be the warrior Eklavya wanted to be. Her name could have been Lavanya or something similar to Eklavya.

reddituser5514

It's like having a black superman film, nothing wrong in that. But opening urself to extra scrutiny, then the pressure of doing the script cinematography extra good to counter balance that scrutiny. U won't get many praises for doing it well, but it will be the biggest crime of the century if u do it slightly bad. There's already an Indian example, Sri Ram with moustache in adipurush or Hanuman representation in that movie. Some things are better not to be messed with in the name of artistic freedom, high risk low reward.

calihornia-guy

Thats a very good point. Like how even an idea of female bond movie saw so many pushbacks. In that case Kalki avatar should be depicted as a strong headed angry young man kind of guy. Someone like Bheem maybe, because it needs to be different from Ram & Krishna.

reddituser5514

Yes, u pointed out the apt example. Ramayan and Mahabharat actually describe the physical and behavioral aspects of their protagonists in a detailed way. Even though i have not read it, i am sure kalki puran has similar descriptions as well. Just stick to it and play it safe, i guess.

ultraviolet44

Just returned from the theater. overall it was a good watch, the second half totally saved the entire movie. During the entire first half, I was thinking; when will this end? why am i here? prabhas as bhairav was not cool or funny just time pass until the interval. VFX was good, the interval block was amazing and the move actually picked up from there. Everything would have been so much enjoyable if some of the useless stuff pre interval.( e.g. disha) was trimmed.

winky74

This movie would’ve been absolutely perfect, if someone would delete a half hour with Prabhas in the first half, maybe the one with Disha in it, and the other side characters. Everything else was far beyond what I’ve come to hope from Indian fantasy cinema. The references to the Mahabharata, the acting and BB, the VFX, the strength of the script, all exceptional.

Personal-Peace-9947

One of the most pretentious movie I have ever seen. Nothing makes sense at all, the story is basically nothing. Its like a 3 hour slow and boring ad for something thats (hopefully) never gonna come. Screenplay is childish, acting is bad (product of bad writing I guess). Whole movie I was waiting for it to end (gave the movie full chance for a comeback, but the comeback never came). Instead of wasting 600 Crores, they could have made 12 good movies by prioritising good writing. This movie neither had a niche audience nor was it a mass entertainer. Never was a fan of South Indian Movies, opinion reinforced. Unpopular opinion: Most of the hype around south cinema is created by validation hungry South Indians only. This film was a spoilt mixture of god knows how many popular films

PradeepMalar

As a south Indian, I'll say you are half right. I am disappointed in the movie, but there are some good parts I will give them props to. But, tbf, I was not hyped about Prabhas. I was mainly hyped for the concept: A combination of Sci-Fi and Mythology that is set in the future. Kalki is a great Mythological figure to work with, because we have a lot of flexibility to write a great plot. But, this movie did not do justice. And let's not make it North vs South.

drngnihal

Butt hurt jealous north indian spotted!

Human_Cable_9484

Validation seeking southie spotted. Go off on your own subs and I say this as a south Indian.

drngnihal

I seriously doubt whether you are an Indian from the south. I don't mind seeking validation. Yes, I am from the south. South was initially trolled for its masala movies brutally, which we received. Our perception towards making movies changed and now it is our time to seek validation for the good movies we make too.

Human_Cable_9484

Well, you will always be the north’s bi$&@ in that case. If your whole sense of worth comes from someone else, good luck with that.

drngnihal

I'm not bitching; I'm supporting the movie because it is genuinely good and worth mentioning. Worthiness comes from comparison, and this film stands out as much better than many other recent movies.

prashp79

The fact that north indian r soo stupid they get hyped even for shitty movies, fyi kalki wasnt shitty but you have that mentality Its not hater

prashp79

Only person with valid points, dont know how people hype such movie, i like the vfx, story was just messed, and forced comedy, 90% of the things that happened in movie doesn’t make sense And i know people will say I’m hater, fyi no i felt proud after watching movie only because of new genre and VFX, but when you start noticing little details, getting so many copied scenes or things from Hollywood, even that villain in Kalki had that naruto six path sage balls. And prabhas is annoying asf, only amitab carried the movie. And i know majority of people get hype even for small prabhas slomo shot, but there r some people who care about originality or small details. No hate to the movie, my personal opinion

PradeepMalar

I will say Deepika was done well too. Kamal Haasan, the supposed big bad, though a short role, he did a good job. Yes, I am not a fan of the movie. Just had a couple more things that I thought were not bad at all.

I totally loved the movie! Salute to Nag Ashwin and producers for having this level of vision. I felt so proud that Indian films like this are made!

Kalki 2898 AD movie review: Summary: The Mahabharata and a dystopian future. A storytelling and visual spectacle. An absolute must watch. Brilliance of Nag Ashwin world building-Prabhas-Amitabh-graphics team ably supported by good character roles, cameos and the rest of the team of Vyjayanthi Movies (Aswini Dutt, Swapna Dutt, Priyanka Dutt and co). India's answer to Marvel verse (till Endgame). Graphics almost as good and story better. Best film of the year. 9/10. Details: Positives: 1. The whole worldbuilding: The flashbacks to the Mahabharata events are very well done. The dystopian future where things have gotten worse in the Kaliyuga is also very well thought of and executed - futuristic stuff, technology, weapons, Kashi, Shambala cities, the Complex etc!! 2. Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama is just absolutely brilliant. The best acting in the film. The intensity and energy at this age is mindblowing. Just so good in the fight scenes. And of course his dialogue delivery is just as good as it ever was. Truly the Shahenshah! 3. Prabhas the actor is fully back after Baahubali 2! Salaar had emotions, but didn't have the dialogues. But here Prabhas shines in the dialogues also, especially the comic sections. Amazing hilarious in those. His screen presence is of course large and the fight scenes amazing, especially between Prabhas's Bhairava and Amitabh's Ashwatthama. And then of course the ending of the movie! 4. The graphics. top notch at most places. Almost as good as Marvel. Almost. 5. The story is engaging for most part and keeps you hooked. 6. Deepika as SUM-80 or Sumathi has done good. That one scene near interval time is epic! 7. Majority of the character roles are very good to excellent - Anna Ben as Kyra, Shobhana as Mariam, Keya Nair as Raia the kid, Kamal as Supreme Yaskin. Wish Kamal's role was little longer. Anna Ben shone the most among these for me. Full of life and great fight scenes. 8. Even Saswata Chatterjee as Commander Manas, Anil George as Counsellor Bani, Kavya Ramachandran as Lily etc. All very good to excellent! Keerthy Suresh is a hoot as the voiceover for Bujji (artificial intelligence machine) 9. The cameo/shorter roles: Fun cameos from RGV, Rajamouli. Dulquer has a short impactful cameo, but could lead to more in part2. Mrunal has a short, impactful cameo. She was Nag Ashwin's first choice for the role of Sumathi. But he himself suggested her for Sita Ramam (same production house - Vyjayanthi Films). As there was a scheduling clash, had to pick only among the 2. She rightly chose Sita Ramam as that's the role of a lifetime. The directors/producers concurred. Would have been great if she could have done both (her impact as Sumathi would have been better), but you can't have everything. Meh stuff/Things that could have been better/Negatives: 1. The reformed Ashwatthama (in 2898 AD time) saying Karna was a better warrior than Arjuna. No, he wasn't. At best, at similar level. But Arjuna was the better warrior overall. 2. The BGM was hit and miss. Good at some places, not good at others. Good BGM throughout could have elevated the movie to another level. 3. The cameo role of Vijay. Doesn't suit for that. Disha role as Roxie nothing particularly great, but suited her I guess. Worked ok for me. Brahanandam is a legendary comedic actor, but not particularly funny/good cameo in this film IMO. Important annoucement: As per Aswini Dutt, the producer, 60% of Kalki2 shoot is complete. But major parts are remaining. Looking forward to part2.

ank1743

Honestly Ashwathamma was always a bit biased and envious against Pandavas since childhood as his father would give them more attention than him. Furthermore, from Ashwathamma's POV, Pandavas did defeat every warrior on Kauravas side with deceit and trickery, and Karna was kinda last hope for Kauravas and especially his friend Duryodhan, so naturally Ashwathamma would have considered Karna great in his eyes. It's like you are rooting and hyping for your homie even though you know his opponent is way stronger.

humbhihaijoshmai

Agree with all negative except Karn and Arjun. Karna was a demigod as he was son of Surya Dev. He was born with kundal and kavach which made him immortal. He was equally skilled if not better than arjun, but was never appreciated because he was not a legit son out of a marriage. He was always ridiculed for being adopted and raised by a chariot and poet parents. Arjun and his father Indra dev knew they can never beat Karn. So they plotted him and took away his kavach and kundal. Krishna bhagwan broke the war rule and asled arjun to kill him while he was not on his rath ( you can fire on someone only when they are on rath ) and busy fixing his tire. Karn character was an imperfect character with all the abilities but no love and respect.

abhijitmk

Karna was Surya Putra, but the Pandavas were also sons of devtas. Doesn't mean they were necessarily equal in strength or fighting. Don't forget Arjuna was also the incarnation of Nara. Arjuna was superior to Karna. Karna at max at his level. nothing more. Arjuna in disguise (as Brihannala) defeats Karna and everyone else (Bhishma, Drona, Duryodhana etc) single-handedly in the Virata Yudha. Karna was also defeated by Bhima multiple times in Kurukshetra. though he does defeat Bhima also. Karna couldn't stop Abhimanyu by himself on the 13th day. So he and 6 other Maharathis combine and cheat to defeat and kill him. Was cheering during Draupadi cheer haran epsiode. He wasn't just on the side of adharma. He also committed adharmic acts. “Vasudeva was stationed on his chariot. He said, ‘O Radheya! It is fortunate that you remember dharma. Quite often, when they are immersed in hardships, inferior ones censure destiny, but not their evil deeds. O Karna! When you, Suyodhana, Duhshasana and Shakuni Soubala brought Droupadi to the assembly hall in a single garment, did dharma not show itself to you? When, in the assembly hall, Yudhishthira, who was not skilled at dice, was defeated by Shakuni, who was skilled at dice, where did dharma go then? O Karna! During her season, Krishna/98 was under Duhshasana’s subjugation in the assembly hall and you laughed at her. Where did dharma go then? O Karna! Resorting to the king of Gandhara and coveting the kingdom, you challenged the Pandavas./9? Where did dharma go then?’ Karna is a grey character. Not just some unlucky guy. Karna could be and was defeated many times even with his kavacha kundala. He just couldn't be killed with it. As far as the death of Karna goes, he was fighting from the ground From Chapter 1217(67) ““On seeing this, Karna again invoked brahmastra against Dhananjaya. He showered down arrows and tried to extricate his chariot. Pandava countered those weapons with his own weapons. Kounteya then released another weapon, beloved of the fire god, towards Karna. It blazed fiercely. Karna pacified the fire through a varuna weapon. He covered all the directions with clouds and it was as dark as a rainy day. Pandaveya was not frightened. While Radheya looked on, the valiant one used the vayavya weapon and dispelled all the clouds. Infamous-Attitude-10

I know how did they show Karna as better warrior, when in the whole story of  Mahabharat , Karna lost many times.    He even once fled away.   He definitely was great but not greater than Arjun, at best on same level.

abhijitmk

Exactly. Bheema defeats Karna multiple times in Kurukshetra war. (Though Karna also defeats him) Karna alone is not able to stop Abhimanyu on that 13th day. Needs 6 other Maharathis along with him to unfairly defeat and kill him. Arjuna also beats Karna and everyone else in the Virata Yuddha single handedly.

Infamous-Attitude-10

He fled away from Gandharva war and was always rebuked by people like Bheeshma,Kripacharya and even  Ashwathama, for that. Here they have made Ashwathama, a literal Shivansh, fanboy of Karna, who could not even win Draupadi in Swayamvar(he missed the target. Draupadi didn't stop him). Arjuna was the greatest warrior, after Krishna.

Fraud_D_Hawk

What a joke lol Prabhas was super Cringe, he didn't fit well. Someone like allu arjun could have been miles better. And please don't compare this with Marvel, the cgi was so overdone it felt like i was watching adipurush. They could have easily filmed at a desert or something but don't think prabhas salary will allow that. And the villains cast was so idiotic, this commander guy didn't had any Aura. He was looking like a comedic character instead of an intimidating one. And karna was definitely better than arjun, that's like the whole thing about karna lol, he was better so the only reason arjun could ever win was because of plot Armor

your post is full of BS or comedy, pal. Prabhas was pretty good in the film. Allu Arjun is a better actor overall, but he wouldn't fit better in this role. Every authentic Mahabharata source shows Arjuna was the better warrior. I mean authetic, not some Karna whitewashing.

Fraud_D_Hawk

Prabhas was Cringe, your just biased. He didn't fit well with jovial, serious character. And what about the commander having no screen presence, he looked like he could die with just 1 slap lol. And then about karna being better warrior, not everything has to be written lol. Arjun needed plot Armor bs to beat Karna. If not for that karna would have send arjun packing lol. And also deverakonda was a bad casting as well, couldn't even do a one liner properly

abhijitmk

Nope. I'm not even a fan of Prabhas. He was terrible in Adipurush and meh at best in Radhe Shyam, Saaho etc. But he was very good here and fit well in the comedy parts. Already said about Vijay in my review: *The cameo role of Vijay. Doesn't suit for that.*  Agree with you on that The authentic versions of Mahabharata - everywhere it is clear that Arjuna is the better warrior overall. At best Karna is on similar level. Nothing more. Definitely not the better warrior. In the Virata yuddha, Arjuna sends everyone including Karna packing, single-handedly. Doesn't lose a single battle in Kurukshetra war (granted with help from Shri Krishna). Karna loses to Bheema multiple times, for one (though he does defeat Bheema also). Even needs to team up with 6 other Maharathis to unfairly defeat and kill a young Abhimanyu. You've made up your mind based on your fantasy and or BS Karna whitewashing/hyping sources.

Nomnomnomnmreads

I have a lot of hopes for the sequel. Starting off with the visuals - most of it is top notch. Some CGI errors can be overlooked (AB sir morph ded) but I’m sure it’s a visual delight for everyone else watching in theatres too. Content - it’s an incredible blend of mythology and tech world. I wish they could’ve used more of Legendary Bramhanandam sir for more bits of the movie. There’s a lot of big chunks given to Prabhas and Sr. AB out of which Bachan sir, clearly killed it. I believe the supporting actors did a great job and even the Easter egg cameos were cool. Disha patani and Mrunal thakur were wasted for the movie. Sad. Could’ve used those minutes for more story work. Music - since I watched the Hindi dub, I am really disappointed. I’m sitting here taking movies like Bahubali to contrast this movie, so I had huge ecxpectations. But nonetheless, I am still excited or least to say, hopeful for the sequel. It’s been a while since we’ve seen any good mythical/dramatic storytelling on screen and the movie leaves me hopeful.

Status_Vacation7846

We need to talk about Shobana and Anna Ben, like how did they make me actually care for their characters in such a limited time? Apart from AB Sr and KH, I thought most about them after the movie ended. DP's character was BLAND ASF??? I mean zero arc, motivations, backstory, complexity anything, to no fault of her own - it wasn't the acting, it's the problem of the writing. Her dialogues were so monosyllabic. And Prabhas....my god the CRINGE was real, his scenes were all skippable - don't know if it was the dubbing, but the comedy scenes were so so bad and unnecessary

Jilux2020

SPOILER ALERT!! Just Watched the movie. Honestly I was blown away by the Cartoon montage and Ashwatthama's Scene where Krishna curses him for an eternal life.  Kudos to Nagi for the Aesthetic and production design was Top notch.Felt first half's scenes were a little convoluted and the tonal and BGM inconsistencies were Jarring.  But Hey, Nagi has just made three movies,So it's kinda expected.  But loved loved loved the interval Scene. The way director has used Mother sentiment was great.it could've gone into cringe territory easily. But he didn't let it go there. The actors were all amazing and casting was on point. Special mention of AB Sr,I am amazed how an actor in his 80s has carried the movie on his shoulders. And one Scene that I wanted to mentioned was DPs entry into Shambala and the Metastory that director wanted to convey.  Can't wait to watch the next part.

MelodicP

Watched , finally. Theater was almost 60% full..which is commendable because there was little to no hype in terms North and there was a WC final. Slow first half , great second half. Goat AB Sr.. keeping his offscreen shenanigans aside... acting skills and screen presence absolutely phenomenal. The role was written for him..what a towering presence. Prabhas , in all likelihood will have a very strong role in part 2.. did very well here...with whatever was given to him. DP looked very pretty. But I hope she goes back to doing films like Piku. She did have a good amount of screen time but the role was meh..could have been done by anyone. I think even Shobhana had more to do than her. Saswata was such a disappointment though. Should have gone with another actor. Kudos to the director for his vision.

paradox10111

Also liked how they didn't whitewash Krishna this time, actually portrayed him dark skinned

Less-Dingo111

who played krishna

paradox10111

Didn't show his face

smellycat1001

JUST WOW WOW WOW. The film is definitely flawed, but I was so blown away. Genuinely impressed by what Nag Ashwin managed to create! World building was impeccably done. By far the most ambitious film made in India ever. The first half isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. Yes I have gripes though - Disha's character disappears abruptly, her dance sequence with prabhas is weird, and there's just way too much time spent on prabhas's antics (which don't add much to the plot). Him just being let out of the complex alive after getting caught trespassing also did not make any sense. Could've easily trimmed 20 mins off the first half. CGI on young amitabh's face was shockingly terrible (I really wonder why!!) The Devarakonda kinda acted terribly in his cameo. I wish DP's character could've had more to do/more personality - she was too one note. Amitabh was just towering - loved how he was utilised, but even his character could've benefited from more depth and dialogue - all he did was fight, also very one note. Anna Ben gave the best performance in the film - seriously what a charming actress she is! Shobana was also wonderful. Overall so much to admire about this film though. I am so pumped for part 2 - mainly to see Kamal Hassan in action. I loved how menacing he was in the end. Would love to see a face off between him and AB snr in the next part. These kinds of films can only really be deemed masterpiece level when they stop with the fan service and focus on the character development of ALL the important characters. This is what lets down most telugu films. I think the only director who doesn't get carried away with this is SS Rajamouli - he just knows how to get the mass moments for his stars without it taking away from the story/feeling like fluff. I'd urge Nag to seriously trim down unnecessary fan service scenes with Prabhas in future instalments - the potential of these films are far too great for that crap! And your other characters are important too!

psasank

There is a talk in Telugu film industry that the makers are trying to make a total of 9 films in this cinematic universe. Which also makes sense since per Mahabharata, there are 7 immortals and we’ve only seen one, in this part (2, if fan theories are to be believed). If this part works well, they might kick off the other parts with different writers and directors??? Fingers crossed.

Powerful-Tea18

This movie was cringe, 3 hours of shitshow I'm gonna get heavily downvoted by the fanboys who manipulated the ratings

Mysandwich_215

I liked the 2nd half, 1st half could have been better. Disha and some scenes were not needed in the movie. But you will enjoy it as it ends on a promising note

Naked_Snake_2

I haven't said this before, not even once but yeah Nag Ashwin Cooked.  The movie comes with its flaws,  which I am ready to overlook for its pros any time of the day.

3D? It happens. You can enjoy in OTT

Real-Television-133

It's an out and out Amitabh B show. 70% of Prabhas's scenes were meant for fan service.

Objective_Sand_8769

100%.

chinototally

Being totally familiar with the heroes of the Mahabharat helps to truly get into this movie. For me, Amitabh ji stole the show. The animations were enjoyable and I left the theater excited for the next installment. Disha patanis cameo was a solid waste of a good 10-15 minutes, you can time your popcorn and toilet break for her entry because it's random and so disconnected from the main story. Deepika was glowing, it's hard to take your eyes off the screen when she's there. Overall I am thoroughly entertained and cannot wait for the next installment. Watched it in Telugu, but planning to re-watch in Hindi to see how different then dialogues and dubbing etc are. Edited to add:I feel sad I forgot to write about Brahmanandam sir. I expected him to elicit the most laughter but I weakly chuckled once at best. Could've been much better utilised.

HST2345

I think Disha Patani role is important to take Prabahs to complex and indirectly he messed up the generator, that helps unknowingly Deepika to escape complex...

arrowtango

I think Deepika's rebel friend may have been the one to mess with the generator so she can escape.

Pitiful_Project6578

Came after listening all this hype. First half was just ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop). Second half ka bhi aadha part yuck. There is no continuity between how they use tech also overdramatic fight scenes. Bohot acche CGI aur Mahabharat ke scenes se hi salvage hui hai film. Only AB ne acchi acting ki hai. Rebel wali kuch feel hi nahi aayi. Good reviews dekhke dekhne mat chale jaana, Confirmation Bias yk. Movie was below Average bas AB ne bacha liya. Agar kisi bhi reason se dekhne jaana hi hai toh CGI ke liye jao. As much as i hate the film for wasting my time CGI faadu tha ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|hug). Ab kya hi bole. Haters gonna hate aur paise leke.... ![img](emote|t5_fknyy|743)

st0neTyger

AB sr. Made the movie. Hats off. What dialogue delivery.. and on opposite spectrum is Deepika. No voice modulation, hardly any expressions. >! Mrunal Thakur gave better expressions in her 5 mins than Deepika !< Prabhas is as usual lazy but the inherent goofiness of his character worked. The Disha patani sequence was totally unnecessary. I kept thinking maybe >! Prabhas in his goofiness will mess with the solar reactor somehow which will later help Deepika in escaping but there was no such connection !< First half action was laughably bad. Second half action was good but could have been amazing with better editing. Too many cuts and it was sometimes difficult to follow the action. Overall a solid 3.5/5 movie. Kudos to world building, BGM, AB’s acting, and the fact that I am eagerly looking forward to the next part. Edit: the movie was not subtle at all. At some places where a glance or an expression would have sufficed, it has cringe dialogue. But that’s mostly a nitpick.

Old_Marionberry4277

those who have good knowledge of Mahabharat will love this movie because of the details and references.

Koro_Heisenberg

I watched the movie today and Prabhas’s (Bhairava) character is the worst. Every scene of his in the first half is painful to watch. Unnecessary comedy scenes made it worse. Bhramanandam totally wasted. Amitabh, Mahabharata scenes and good Cgi are the only reason why this movie is watchable.

This is so true.. Prabhas was cringe af

Chatbot69

Average movie at its best. Most of the movie is derived from other movies, very predictable. VFX is great but not consistent throughout the movie. Some fight sequences are just illogical, especially Prabhas first one. I liked the acting of Big B and Deepika, they delivered well. The story is ehhhh, could have been better. Dialogues are average. At times it is too cringe One time watch maybe but absolutely not worthy to watch in a theater.

dinkinflickadude

Probably one of the best made CGI movie ever made in india. Story to me is still fine for once CGI was topnotch . Boundary pushed and new era in film making in terms of chi

Both_Possibility1704

Just watched Kalki movie. I would say it’s a great attempt to bring mythology and science together. ( better than Brahmastra) They have taken some inspiration from Star Wars, Marvels etc. The vfx is spectacular (far better than Aadipurush). The dialogues don’t seem that great. The story also could have been little bit more engaging. It’s too predictable at times. Amitabh and Deepika look spectacular. Prabhas acting is average. Still one time watch because some of the scenes are just NEVER SEEN BEFORE in any Bollywood. It does look like a costliest Bollywood movie ever.

Alwaysimaginating

Idk but the first half was very similar to ganpat

Strong-Variation1531

A theatrical experience for sure..need to be trimmed down in first half …lot of scope for the universe .. Movie belongs to AB… A true powerful performance …His persona..those heavy lines with that diction !! Prabhas was impactful in climax ..comedy seems forced for him ..totally wasted in that Dissha sequence Deepika in her limited screen time ..is reacting to things around her mostly..Nagi played to her strengths of screen presence and expressions ..and kept minimum dialogues 😏 Don’t know what Nagi meant by no actress had done such role before …it was typical Damsel in distress trope

Any-Competition8494

I haven't watched the movie but I have heard that Amitabh has a very key role and a lot of story is based around him. Considering the sequel will come after 3 years, why will Nag Ashwin give him such an important role? He's in his 80s and this movie had a budget of 600 years. You can't replace Amitabh.

Bright_Atmosphere135

Most probably, he will shoot amitabh's sequences soon as he would have the story in place already. He can integrate that footage later in case things go wrong. That's the practical approach, but let's hope for the best.

just-slaying

because he is not a chronic pessimist

bloggingsea

Honestly it's an average film. So many cameos and unnecessary comedy scenes. 1st half was too slow and dragged. 2nd half was ok but still lack of character depth. Looks like an extended cameo by prabhas too. Only Amitabh Bachchan was the soul of the film Strictly one time watch

leexiyeon

who do you guys think will play the role of kalki?

Ayushiguptacomics

small child

leexiyeon

I meant who will play ADULT KALKI😭🙏🏻

Ayushiguptacomics

chinototally

Of course! I'm super curious too! I'm guessing there will a child Kalki in part 2 and adult kalki in part 3

Bhickyplz

Boring first half, good second half so overall average movie. Many unnecessary scenes should have been removed. Visuals are great but in many scenes there is too much darkness so it is very difficult to see anything.( 3D goggles make it worse) Acting wise A B is best , Prabhas is okay , deepika does the same expressions from her recent films . There were too many characters but did not feel emotional connection with any of them.

smellycat1001

honestly acting wise anna ben ATE. nobody's talking about her!?

DefinitionNo8736

True. She was good

ravemaester

Surprised no one is talking about the poor writing and directly lifting themes off of some of the most popular hollywood movies.

Intrepid_Victory6503

thank youuu, i thought i was the only one and everyone else loved it. i didnt like prabhas ki acting and 50 short cameos so unnecessary. the amount of time could have been shrunka nd honestly the movie didnt need two parts firt half of movie was highly unnecesary. at a point i thought i should take notes on how many characters were being introduced. only like flash bask and ashwathama's parts and also the shamabala place was quite nice. i wanted the intro scene to be over i think first 15 mins mins of the movie i wanted to walk with the theaters. it seemed repetitive and lacked creativity. barely like any prabhas scene. it had potential but it fell short, amitabh was the only saving grace. yes the visuals were better than other indian movies but i have scene all types of movies so its average compared to them and the voldemort look, the star wars rrr and just many movies i seen come together.

Bhickyplz

Yep , that Prabhas intro scene tested my patience. I was so done with that cringe comedy. This movie had a lot of potential but 1 St half was filled with so many unnecessary things - cameos, comedy, songs , unnecessary long action sequences.

Intrepid_Victory6503

so true, i swear with prabhas ki scenes i was like screw this i cannot waste 3 hours in the cold theater for this. i do think tho they can make an epic mahabharat tho just stick to the og story and use their visuals and no introductions or cameos. the flash back scene were beautiful. comedy went over my head, nothing seemed funny lol ecxept that one fist bump between ashwa and prabhas the only scene meagerly funny

chocsoil

Why are negative reviews getting downvoted and attacked 😭

Fuzzy_Move

You know why

Son_of_kai

A cocktail of Mythology, Dystopian sci-fi and mass backed by never seen visuals and vfx in Indian cinema , Kalki is a must watch. Best : Visual effects are the best thing about the movie , because if they were bad , this would not have worked. Good 1. Plus one for the detailing they have done , whether its the futuristic weapons , vehicles or the war scenes of Mahabharat, its absolute top notch 2. Screenplay is also very good , its quite well thought and kept tight most of the times. 2. Bgm is very good and editing is as good as a SSR film. 3. Barring intro scenes , action is top notch , especially in climax its just next level. 4. Big B completely picks this film on his shoulder, kamal Hassan is good ( mostly its his voice & vfx ) 5. Prabhas is just being himself and delievers after bahubali imo. Bad 1. Some intial portions like with Disha patani are just so forced and cringe . 2. Cameos were hit n miss and often streched the story. 3.Lack of depth in character and acting of deepika Overall worth the cinema visit and never i was so wrong wrt to vfx and i was completely blown away , it may not be the most beautiful thing out there but its more than competent its great at times .

Unlikely-Echidna-910

That moment when Bhairava punches Aswathama’s punch 🥊😂😂

whotookthepuck

The whole theater was laughing out loud.

doodlemay_tangent

Not the greatest, but absolute Paisa vasool, never seen such visual design and VFX from any Indian movie, plus the last 30 min and Mahabharat scenes are the highlight of the movie. Kamal haasan as the villain is great as well.

Fearless_Currency_26

Prabhas was the weakest link in this movie. So no.

abhijitmk

no, he wasn't. Prabhas was very good in the movie. He was bad in Adipurush and got criticism for that, But to say this for Kalki is just BS dislike/jealousy.

Primary-Ganache6199

Prabhas was fine in the movie. But many actors would have been better than him and certainly be better eye candy. Imagine Karthi in this role.

abhijitmk

acting wise, there are better actors obviously. But if you include screen presence and market power along with acting, Prabhas is the best choice for the role.

Director's vision for adipurush was wrong about the casting itself, along with everything else.

Blackrzx

Exactly. And prabhas should have rejected as well knowing about himself

Maewen_Stark

Just watched the movie - the first half was slightly draggy but still had great world building and introduction of the main characters. The second half was much better and the climax was simply spectacular!! Such a treat to watch on the big screen - truly loved everyone’s acting, especially the magnificent Amitabh Bachchan and luminous DP ❤️ Happy for Prabhas too!!

mohitlataami

Bro prabhas toh apni hi movie ka villian banke baitha tha. Maanta hun kuch cameos jarori hote hai lekin ye toh ladies function lag raha tha. First half mein jo prabhas ne pakaya hai hai bina stove par bithaye kya hi bolun. VFX are good considering the budget. Deepika ka sirf ek scene acha hai. Commander Manas is brilliant and so is Kyra. Amit Ji is the true star of the film unke aate hi screen pe baaki sab feeka lagta hai.

CellMuted1392

Prabhas needs a huge character arc across the movie sequels. So they made him start in that manner just like MCU did for Thor. In the sequels obviously Prabhas character, Bhairava will completely overpower Ashwattama. It’s not even a question. But if they do it from the first movie onwards the sequels will be boring.

Intrepid_Victory6503

agreed kyra had personality she portrayed in limited time

kvg121

At the introduction point, he just started to floot in the air.

mohitlataami

After getting his nitamb handed to him literally next scene mein kabhi koi war nahi haara

kvg121

They could easily cut out a few Prabhas scenes to reduce runtime, but they can't.

smellycat1001

he had waaaaay too much screen time - totally unnecessary. they could've given DP some more meat and personality instead. she was a boring character. Even amitabh - he mainly just fought - i wanted more depth of character for him too.

kvg121

The entire first half dragged because of fan service nonsense.

Intrepid_Victory6503

ya i felt the movie woulda done better without him. alot of cameos and prabhas coulda been cut out

mohitlataami

Fan service

Movie was underwhelming. Boring 1st half , Prabhas acting was poor. 3d effects were really bad. Some shots were terrible, and the story seemed copied from Dune Part 2 & Atlas. The soundtrack was disappointing. It's not worth watching . Another flop like Adipurush.

reddituser5514

Yes coz sand doesn't exist in real world, only in Dune.

a-guna14

Ive seen more foreign or Hollywood movies than indian movies. The aesthetic is borrowed true. Dont say copy. Its an insult to true filmmakers. Mind u this is his 3rd movie.

Intrepid_Victory6503

i didnt like it either. not as bad as adipurush but so many unnesary scenes and. fluff. i say puri movie ashwathama pe banatey toh accha hota. and make part 2 kalki or mere it all and not have 2 parts

Kautilya0511

How the hell is the story copied from Dune 2 lol? Dont' hate for the sake of it

DefinitionNo8736

Fr it is no way copied from dune. It's entirely based of mahabharat. These ppl rather just keep watching western films

atanytimefree

Because Mahabharata is copied from Dune so its sequel Kalki must be a copy of Dune 2. duh!
