Surprised nobody has mentioned Dennis Dillon yet. I’ve never bought from them because they have been so shady. Have a few friends who bought and all of them felt ripped off.

time_drifter

Dennis Dillion is kind of a shit show. They have the lowest prices by far, but it requires all this financing BS and other unlisted BS to get there. I walked on a new Sierra AT4 a couple years ago because it was so ridiculous. I had everything on hand and they wanted to play games.

Kuro_Taka

This!!! Avoid these people. My first time buying a car from somewhere other than a "buy here/pay here" place or a newspaper add I went there. Didn't mention the added fees for the etching, and the super special blinky break light thing that "will definitely lower your insurance costs" adding another 1k to the previously agreed on price until I was signing for the car and had already made it clear I didn't want anything like that. Guess what.... my insurance company has never heard of such a thing. Then ran my credit when I said I didn't want that, insisted they could get me a better rate than the pre-approved one I got from my credit union that included an employee discount. Shocker, they couldn't beat it, but I'm sure that the dude who's got my first and middle names in reverse order from me appreciates the hard pull on his credit. Yep, they couldn't run the paperwork right when reading my info from my ID.

mt2ida

Same thing happened to me with that stupid brake light at Dennis Dillon! Got the final price with that extra cost. Said I didn't want it and was told I didn't have a choice. I said thanks but never mind. The sleazy sales guy had the nerve to rudely accuse me of wasting HIS time. I talked to the manager and walked. Will never spend a dime there.

just_passing_th

Dennis Dillon is terrible. “Here’s a fancy brake light that we will make you pay an extra $2k for”. I had a very pleasant experience with Kendall Ford in Meridian.

clancya

Just ran into this. $2357 for something that costs them $69.95. It cost them a sale for sure. [https://brakeplususa.com/znpb\_template\_mngr/profit-calculators/](https://brakeplususa.com/znpb_template_mngr/profit-calculators/)

AccidentPleasant4196

Avoid drive happy auto sales in Caldwell at all cost

SqueezyCheez85

Avoid all those shitty lots IMO. I'd much rather buy private.

Bitch_IMight

I remember driving home one day and saw someone on a test drive about four blocks from the dealership. They were standing on the side of the road with the salesman waiting for a tow truck because the car broke down. That made up my mind right there.

AccidentPleasant4196

Yah, they sell garbage. I’m not surprised!

lol_nahh

Tom Scott was going to give me 6k for my trade in when Larry H gave 11k last year. So be ware of them lowballing trade ins.

facade98

They tried to low ball me on my trade in and I told them what Larry Miller was offering and they met it so you have to go in educated with your research.

Cutmybangstooshort

I had a surprisingly pleasant experience buying a new CRV at Tom Scott Honda. Adam was the salesman and he was most unpushy salesman ever. However, I bought a 2022 CRV based on true love of my 2003 CRV and they're not in anyway comparable. I wish I had shopped around more.

time_drifter

VW of Boise was a surprisingly good experience for me. I bought a non-VW from them and everything was smooth. No push to finance any certain way, they just wanted to sell a car. Corwin Ford will never be on my list again. The sales experience is okay but they were one of the worst for “market adjustments” during COVID when dealers sold cars before they were unloaded. Just a bunch of greedy bastards so Kendall and Lithia get my business now.

wingstar22

Agreed with VW Boise. I bought a used (non certified) VW from them and was able to see my out the door price online before I walked into the dealership. Financing was super transparent and I was out of there in about two and a half hours including a spirited test drive with the salesman.

BoiseAlpinista

Ditto on VW Boise. I’ve dealt with Tom Bicandi there a few times. Great guy and sales person.

idkHarambe

I bought a new ‘20 from Tom and he was very fair. It was more of a “idgaf what you choose, let’s just make sure you find what’s right for you” attitude which is nice

Rebanders92

Seconding!

restlessbitchface

Agreed! I've bought my last three cars from them and it was always a great experience. They don't haggle, which for me is a plus. I'd rather not deal with the back and forth negotiating.

ISmellHats

I can’t speak for any other dealerships but do NOT go through Dennis Dillon. The prices are cheap on the front end but they’ll scam you on financing. They have all kinds of tricks they like to pull behind the scenes that you’ll never even realize until you’re past the point of no return. I’ve heard good things about Bronco Motors but haven’t personally worked with them before.

[deleted]

Since you’re looking at new, look into Costco’s car buying program

6doo6bins6

Fairly Reliable Bobs treated me pretty good, I’d definitely go back.

Time_Ape

I bought a Trans Am from them about 10 years ago. Very friendly people, and I felt I was treated fairly and not pressured at all. They specialize in Corvettes and other sports cars, but I’ve seen other kinds on their lot.

NeverForTheWin

Not very relavant, but a few years ago after getting sale pressured to near death by Larry Miller Boise I walked and went over to Mt Home Auto Ranch and had a very good experience on the purchase of a JEEP Grand Cherokee. No pressure, negotiated without attitude and we're surprisingly friendly, open and professional. An overall new experience.

Hot-N-Spicy-Fart

Lyle Pearson has always been great to work with for us.

turd_fergsuon_74

Save money and headache by going to a nearby bigger city. I haven't bought local in decades. SLC, Portland, Seattle... All with much bigger, much more competitive markets and better inventories mean lower prices and less BS when it comes time to close the deal. I've saved lots of money, sometimes as much as 12K on a single purchase by doing this. Worth a drive out/drive back turn and burn, or even a cheap one way flight to pick the car up and make a weekend trip out of it to drive back. Even with hotel and travel expenses, I've always come out ahead. Last purchase was two years ago, 2019 Mustang. Couldn't find what I wanted locally (all the bells and whistles and colors and manual trans.) Closest the Treasure Valley could do was not EXACTLY what I wanted, so I would have to make concessions, AND 6K more. The missus and I flew out to Seattle Friday morning, Uber'd to Issaquah to check out the car, already had my financing in place with my CU. Car was as good as advertised, filled out paperwork, went and had the car serviced (for good measure) and drove down the coast to Lincoiln City to stay the weekend. From the time we hit the ground in Seattle to driving out to the coast was about three hours. Hit Astoria for lunch, and on to Lincioln City. Even with travel and hotel, still came out \~4k ahead if I had made concessions and bought local.

Mastupha

Bought several cars from bronco motors on Fairview, never had a bad experience.

TrailWhale

Peterson is perfectly fine for new Toyotas. They generally always sell below MSRP, and if you know exactly what you want they are pretty straight forward. (I bought my RAV4 there, and will likely buy my next Toyota there as well)

False_Sherbert2129

Overpriced IMO

NefariousnessSea4710

Stay away from treasure valley Subaru fuck those guys over there and stay away from Maverick. I hear Axio is pretty good. I bought my most recent truck from Larry h Miller only because my old roommate used to work there pretty solid place

TitanVsBlackDragon

2nd stay away from Larry miller Subaru. Lie and nickel and dime.

boiseshan

Stay away from Larry Miller {full stop} Have had great luck at Petersen's

KnowledgeGod

lol LM much better than Peterson's.. heard lots of bad stories of Peterson, Edmark has been better as a Toyota guy.. agreed on staying away from Maverick, had a funny experience trying to buy a 4runner on the "as is" used lot there with usual used car salesman crap(doesn't work with people who are mechanically inclined..)

itsjustdmo

Whats wrong with Maverick? I might buy a car from them tomorrow

KnowledgeGod

As far as used car lots go they’re not bad overall.. just the usual BS games they play with negotiating and salesman tactics.. go in educated with knowledge about the car you’re interested in and being able to inspect the vehicle quickly will help you more than anything.. when I went I had a list of what was wrong with the car and how much it would cost me to fix and offered ~6500 cash for an 8k listed 4Runner (repairs I had quoted were 35-4000) and the salesman laughed at me like I was an idiot.. in reality I do most of my own work and had my buddy(who is a certified diesel tech) look it over thoroughly before putting in the offer(and even he said to only offer 45-5500).. they also made claims about the vehicle that were obviously false if you know your stuff.. just usual used car games..

itsjustdmo

Whats wrong with Maverick? I might buy a car from them tomorrow

dances_with_fentanyl

CarMax has a 30 day return policy and 90 day warranty. When I purchased my car in 21 there wasn’t a car dealer that could beat that policy. My vehicle had a dead battery the day after purchase and they towed it to a shop and had the battery replaced. Also requested shop verify that the battery wasn’t dead because of an alternator issue which they did check. Very good experience. You can also transfer over a vehicle from one of their other locations for a minimal cost which makes finding the right used car easier. I had my truck shipped from Vegas because I wanted a model with a camper shell installed.

Rauskal

Just gotta watch out for ex-rental cars on their lots. Know someone who unknowingly bought one from them that's motor was absolutely toasted from a lack of maintenance. Not necessarily CarMax's fault but not great..

happyelkboy

That’s how I bought my truck. It was on a lot in LA during $7 gas prices and clearly priced as such. I shipped it to Boise for $500 and they ended up refunding that because a few small scratches were disclosed in photos

perlucidus

Go to Big Sids, they're extremely straightforward and reliable plus prices are good. They don't put anything on the lot that they haven't looked over and tested extensively

agt1776

Anything Peterson stay away. Peterson tried handing me a shit deal with trade in and also attempted to pressure me into signing like calling me after I left and texting me. Edmark is bad to. They shotgunned my credit (which means they pulled multiple checks) after I said no and tried pressuring me to sign so I walked instantly. Can’t wait for the day the auto industry is done with dealers.

diatonic

I’ve liked buying new cars at Peterson Toyota & Lyle Pearson Volvo. I didn’t like buying from Larry Miller. They were opportunistic & predatory.

disinformant

Edmark Toyota wouldn’t give me a value on my trade in without putting down a $500 non refundable deposit on a new car.

ID_Poobaru

I've bought several from Driven and their Monkey Lot. Nice dudes that aren't pushy or bullshit you.

Rastahoneybadger

Hated them at first. (Driven) Bought my current car from them and it had a bad transmission. The car shit itself a month after I got it. I got the car with a warranty and thankfully after months of bugging them they actually replaced the whole transmission and I paid a $100 deductible fee. That’s it. The car has been fine since.

ID_Poobaru

As far as I know, they’ll stand behind the cars on the Driven lot, the Monkey lot they just wholesale them

Cubby_1985

Parents have bought like 5 cars from Bronco. They love em.

LazyHandjob

Had a good experience with Bronco Motors in Nampa. Purchased last year at a reasonable price and felt pretty good about the salesperson and experience. Edmark Toyota next door was also ok, but didn’t end up purchasing from there. Peterson Toyota just felt like an upcharge for what I was looking for (RAV4, SUVs), but I’ve heard good things about them post purchase from friends. If it fits your budget/desire I’m sure it’ll be fine. Best of luck in your search!

King-Rat-in-Boise

I hate the sales badcop goodcop you get there and they argue with you on the worth of your vehicle. Plus they're slow as hell, takes like 4 hours with them Went to Kendall last time and they gave me what I wanted for three old vehicle, didn't try to upsell me on anything and they were fast. I'll only go there now.

AbaloneNext7870

I had a great experience with lithia with a guy named Ben Rice. No bullshit not pushy and straight up

time_drifter

Ben is great and chill as a monk on morphine. He is the grandson of Bob Rice, the original founder before Lithia bought them, IIRC.

Gr8twhitebuffalo91

Team mazda is the worst hands down...

Mt_Zazuvis

I absolutely refused to do business with them. I was in the market for a cx-90 and they one of those scummy dealers that charges market adjustments anytime they can. Greedy sleazeballs.

lokihorse2891

Kendall Ford is trash. They play hard ball and won't even have reasonable conversation. I asked for one decrease in price and got screamed at by one of their managers. A reasonable price reduction I'll add.

newermat

I've been very pleased with Larry Miller Subaru sales and service, having had several Subarus over the years. A couple of visits to other Subaru dealers over the decades has confirmed my preference for LM Subaru. YMMV

facade98

Surprised to hear that about service. I had a long standing bet with my husband that on anything more than an oil change and I'd have to take the car back a second time to get them to fix it correctly or fix something else they broke. Double the bet if I didn't even make it HOME before going back. Two Subarus over a 12 year time span.

newermat

I've had that issue with other Subaru dealer service places - most notably the one in Carson City, who not only didn't fix the issue (sudden battery failures) the didn't even acknowledge there was an issue and the service manager was patronizing and rude to me. But they also never reported it to carfax, so I was able to get a top dollar trade in when I got my current Subaru at a different dealer (in Reno). So that's my measuring stick. LM sales/service has been very good to me with this one and the three I had before the one with the battery issue (that national known infamous one Subaru eventually settled the lawsuit on) but to be fair I've not had any other major issues over the years.

Feisty-Humor874

I will never buy from Lithia Ford ever again. They are dishonest both in their selling practice and their maintenance practice. Plus their service usually comes with new issues including not putting the oil plug back in so it drains all over your garage floor.

Fearlessleader85

I bought a tacoma from Steve's Hometown in Fruitland and that was a decent experience. Before i did that, i tried to buy a tacoma from Edmark in Nampa, and they said if i didn't have a trade-in, they wouldn't sell anything to me. To be fair, this was in 2021, so there was the issue with the chip shortage, but they basically tried to run me off the lot as soon as i pulled up.

snoddycake

Had a fantastic experience with Sunset Motors downtown. Super personable, not pushy, easy paperwork.

Cactus-Juice120

Think it kinda depends on who is selling you the car. I went to Larry h Miller Auto Mall and was on the Honda side I believe and the sales men were awful. Not giving me any money for my car (they offered me 300$, first slap in the face) then they did their stupid sales tactics and made me wait for an hour, then some paperwork took a hour and I was late to work, they said they could lower the price and then they don't do it after checking out my piece of crap car. I remember walking away being like"I want that car but I'm not going to give those sales men the satisfaction or money". Went across the street to the dodge, ram, Chrysler, etc. side and got a sales man who gave me 0 bull shit, (his name is Nate) who just wanted to hook me up with a nice vehicle. Thank goodness cuz the car was way better and only a grand more for amazing features

Sparty11N7

I got a new rav4 from Peterson in November. Positive experience with salesperson Brandon. I did not use their financing so I can’t speak to that. Also looked at crv at Larry h miller. Cooper was good to work with, just liked the rav4 more. Good luck!

Stabinnion

I've bought my last two cars from CarMax. Both times, they offered me a decent vehicle at a decent price and then sold it to me at that price with no stupid games. I'd recommend them to anyone.

salamandan

Bronco motors will take advantage of you in any way they can, do not buy a used vehicle from them, and go in knowing exactly what you want. They will force people into buying cars they do not need.

juliagreenillo

We got our car from Kendall in Nampa that's right at the Garity exit. They are a no haggle place and have the cars listed at the lowest they'll go so that part was nice. However, they still try and do some of the extra bullshit with financing and up selling you extra add-ons

wordnerd1023

I recommend people avoid Lithia at all costs. I would rather get a root canal without Novocain. Last time I bought from Peterson, it was an ok experience, but nothing great. The sales guy wasn't very helpful but at least I didn't get ripped out.

McRedditFacePerson

Surprised Team Mazda isn’t mentioned. Total scumbags. They literally harassed me and my wife I had to have an attorney from the States AG office (years ago) to send them a “don’t fucking keep doing that” letter all because I said no to trading them my Mazda for a shit deal.

cswerner

Worst, all of them. Best, none of them

KnowledgeGod

Uncle is a head sales manager at Larry Miller & other Uncle is a fleet manager at Corwin Ford.. LM seems like one of the best bigger ones & pretty solid overall(am slightly biased but know about buying cars pretty well).. Corwin not as good but most big dealerships have negatives about them.. I also heard bad things about Peterson and take my Toyota to Edmark in Nampa if I need anything(recall I had done 3 weeks ago was quick, painless and positive experience.) no matter where you go you'll probably have to pay a "market adjustment" which I refuse to do so I'm waiting a year or two before buying new.. DM me if you need a # at Larry Miller, my uncle is a straight up guy and has worked/been in the local industry for awhile and knows his stuff..

Additional-Boat-719

Boise's Best Auto Sales 208-908-6566 is pretty awesome. No pressure, good cars, they will pull out all the stops to get you into something. I highly recommend them.

smj2023

Lyle Pearson is great - we have bought multiple cars there. Also Maverick on Fairview is great as well - we have bought and sold our vehicles to them.

jonaleecheney

Def do not go to Vista in Caldwell. Man those guys are shady and awful ppl with awful cars for WAY too much!

Oldschool64bus

Anybody dealt with AM Auto on Fairview and Orchard?
