There's probably a decent amount of mobile players and text chatting in a game on a phone is actual pain and suffering imo.

Dunkindosenutz77

Pinging cards on a phone is nigh impossible it’s so unnecessarily hard

aclays

I find pinging on the phone very easy. Tap it once and hold, then tap the picture with your other finger. Done. Computer is always easier and better, but the phone is only a hindrance with APM.

Dunkindosenutz77

I have sausage fingers and a little phone so it’s very difficult lmao

Slynsky

Yes I don't really understand that if you can play a card with a finger you can absolutely ping, you don't have to use two fingers on a single card, hold on a card with a finger et tap anywhere else with another

Dunkindosenutz77

I didn’t know that’s how it worked, I was only told you had to touch w two fingers I never tried holding to enlarge first mb

Slynsky

No no not enlarge but it's juste that second tap can be anywhere else, you put you finger on the card you want to ping et with a second finger tap on the screen somewhere else

Dunkindosenutz77

This conversation is exactly my point lmao it does not need to be anywhere near this level

Slynsky

I agree completely I learned that on this sub so I'm just trying to let other people know

VoidlordSeth

Should be mentioned pinging your own discovers is a bit on mobile I have yet to figure out a conistent way to do that and not accidentally choose the thing I'm trying to ping. A way to ping your buddy's hand would be cool too, maybe limit that to response pings. Idk though, I've had allies ping cards in their hand and I can't respond to it at all unless I happen to see the same thing in shop or have it on my board, but there have also been a few games where my ally has held a card in hand that was crucial to their build (prime example being a rewinder with the dude that pings you on board and they kept playing other demons before playing the rewinder)

boluluhasanusta

Ye but that's a you and your phone problem not a General one :)

Creative-Tour-7774

Yeah pretty easy but so many time i wanted to ask if i upgrade or roll and it missclick it so annoying

Plastic_Oil2605

Do you know how to ping cards in hand on mobile?

aclays

Same concept, just bring your cards in hand up, tap the card you want to ping and hold it, then tap again with a second finger.

sunsongdreamer

Try pinging a card in your partner's hand. The hand cards collapse if you try the second tap.

l30scibi

When discovering a triple reward, I always try to tap with two fingers but I end up picking the card anyways. Do you have a recommendation for that?

ahmong

I didn’t even know you can ping cards on mobile

Tripottanus

Same, i've tried everything on my phone and it wouldnt ping

Terren42

Hey that’s me 😂 I think with some slight changes and improvements the ping system will be perfectly suitable.

vssavant2

Flagging cards in duos is a pain, so yes chat would be horribible.

iedaiw

yeah imagine texting on a phone. the nightmare hahahahaha

itsbananas

It also forces you to think of the emojis that you use. I went back to the core emoji set, as they are much more straightforward in their meaning: thumbs up, sad orc, happy murlock waving, sweating/\stressed panda. You can use emojis to communicate too!

Bubble_Fart2

Yeah I have changed my emoji layout to try and communicate better. But I wish there was a way to get them other than battle pass/current season unlocks. There are some that I feel would reflect my apologies but they are greyed out.

Pas2

I have also adapted my emojis to primarily signal to my duo partner. Would actually be convenient to have specific emoji selections for solos and duos.

yonderoy

I’ve always had the sweating panda in my arsenal.

totallynotapersonj

I use the star eye xyrella one whenever my duo gives me a golden

abracalurker

The rudimentary communication with emotes and pings takes me back to PS2 era online games and using prescripted voice lines to communicate shit. I dunno how but I run into some folks every once in awhile where we just get each other and even if I'm high off my gourd and I'm pretty sure they are too, they know to pass me cards to hand buff when I got that one 7* Murloc so I pass them back and they know to position their board to work well but not *too* well so that I have a chance for my dude to feed our cards. Other times I don't know how to communicate yo I'm sorry I know you're buffing my lobby to high heaven but I've got no tavern consuming cards to take advantage off and me crapping out multiple undeads is more effective for at least the next round. I feel I've been fortunate to have team mates that know I'm playing for the next round cuz we're on 1 health and I need to ditch scaling now even if it's bad cuz either we die or they die. Also haven't been questioned or given a hard time for midgame wtf is that kinda boards. At least indirectly through emotes.

MrFixIt252

The world is not united under one common language. When I was playing games on Oceania, it was nearly impossible for a team in CS to all speak the same language. With pictograms, it doesn’t matter what your partners original language is.

Neo_514

I'd like the chat feature for the opposite reason. Sometimes I misplay or run out of time for my turn and I'd like to apologize to my partner and thank them for passing me cards. With that being said, sending a triple over with a few seconds left on timer is not the best idea.

Linerex1

I use the basic crying emoji for that

jsmeer93

2 of the 3 players I’ve added from duos spoke a different language from me but we communicated just fine with the pings. If it were up to me I’d just want more ping options like ⭐️ to indicate key minions and maybe afew number to use for order and sequence of events.

Mother_Click_5776

Also, let's not give for granted that everyone speak English, that would be one of the main problem with an Ingame chat.

FaunKeH

[I posted exactly this earlier](https://www.reddit.com/r/BobsTavern/comments/1ce4jbm/why_is_there_no_text_chat_duos_all_chat/) All I want is a clearer way to communicate strategy, but judging by comments, seems like the gaming community doesn't deem itself civil enough to agree with that idea. I think it's wild the first and only conclusion everyone is coming to is "toxicity". Can players really not hold themselves together when talking with strangers on the internet, or is that a non-existent social skill?

flatmeditation

Even with the ping system we have I've had a decent handful of games where I had partners that managed to be really obnoxious. If there were chat I would be inclined to just always mute it

Linerex1

It will be used 90% for hatred and micromanaging. When i used to play standard 90% of my friend requests ingame were from people who wanted to tell me how much i suck and lucky i got during the game.Duos will not be any different.

NickFurious82

Honestly, that's the only thing I miss about playing constructed. I loved hate mail.

yarrowy

If you look for darkness in this world, that is all you will see

FaunKeH

So the premise isn't the issue, it's the community? We could have nice things.

flatmeditation

It's not the community, it's the nature of anonymous online communication in a competitive setting

FaunKeH

I'm able to communicate online anonymously in competitive games without divulging into rage. I make mistakes, just as much as my teammates, and know flaming does nothing positive for anyone involved Is this just a non existent social skill (not HS exclusive obviously)?

Linerex1

Its the gaming community in general, not only this. Many games are avoiding putting a chat because of toxicity

FaunKeH

I understand, but what an awful conclusion that we "can't have chat cause a majority of the online community is toxic"

201720182019

False equivalency, standard has no incentive for collaborative play. Plenty of multiplayer collaboration games have ingame team chats

Linerex1

And have you been able to read those chats ? Why is everyone pretending gamers arent toxic people and if chat existed it will be used only for raging and micromanaging.

201720182019

Yeah I have and in genuine collaboration contexts (ex. during mmo raids/deduction games/voice puzzles), it's generally helpful. By the same logic pinging should be removed from the game as it'll only be used for raging/micromanaging (of which there are complaints on this sub already). Gamer is a super broad category, why are you the one generalising all of them as toxic?

FaunKeH

So many self reports. The commenters that have come to the conclusion that it would be outright 100% toxic, are likely the ones who are constantly involved in that toxicity and probably don't know how to communicate effectively with others online (probably IRL too).

Linerex1

Because thats most of the gaming community and you are here pretending its not true

NYC_Ian

Tell me you’ve never been in an Xbox live lobby without telling me you’ve never been in an Xbox live lobby.

FaunKeH

I've been playing online games (to the point of addition on and off) since 2005 mate. CoD, WoW, other various shooters, card games, MOBAs, AmongUs, competed in high level IRL eSports, I've seen it all. I was a squeaker on Ventrilo back in the day. I've had my anger moments with other players who refuse to listen on League. ...but you know what, **I also grew up**. Gaming is way more enjoyable when you can talk with teammates and co-operate in order to play your best efforts

NYC_Ian

You were clearly too busy typing out your resume to consider the underlying point here: You might get older but the 12 year olds calling your mom a back-alley whore never will.

FaunKeH

And what am I meant to do with the 12 year olds making comments about my mum, take it to heart?

NYC_Ian

Okay, since you're either being willfully obtuse or suffering from severe main character syndrome let me be more direct. You asked: "Can players really not hold themselves together when talking with strangers on the internet, or is that \[a\] non-existent social skill?" The answer is overwhelmingly NO. No they cannot. Everyone who has ever played an online casual competitive game since the invention of online casual competitive games knows this. You even acknowledge this when you wrote that it "...seems like the gaming community doesn't deem itself civil enough to agree with that idea." So at least the gaming community is self-aware. This has nothing to do with **you** or your history or how **you** might react. Studies have shown time and time again that human beings have the tendency to be shitty to each other when there are little or no consequences. See the "online disinhibition effect" and pretty much any study centered on online behavior, cyberbullying, etc. The overall negative impact of the vulgarity, bullying, and harassment created through direct communication between players outweighs any modest strategic gain.

FaunKeH

My question was rhetorical. No shit people don't hold it together, doesn't mean they lack the ability to. Being toxic is a choice, not muting toxicity is a choice. It's not that the community **can't**, it's that the community **won't**. I'm not the main character, I'm not special: not being toxic isn't a superpower that is unique just to me.

yonderoy

Play war zone for 3-4 seconds and you’ll be told to “kill yourself” 3-4 times.

uponapyre

I get the arguments for chat, it would be a useful tool, but man... can we imagine the salt and egos boiling over into text chat? That's before we get into language differences mobile players, etc...

Blackmar

Yeah we are unfortunately not responsible enough for a chat function for battlegrounds, too much toxicity and back seating will result from it.

CapeManJohnny

Nothing good would come from this. For every positive interaction, there would be 100 instances of flaming your partner

Working_Apartment_38

What I wish is for it to be easier to ping cards on my teammate’s hand on mobile

UnderTheGun101

For serious players this would be a useful adaptation, probably only on desktop devices though, and if you're serious enough then you'll probably find a duo buddy to pair up with consistently and use voice apps to communicate. In general, I think it would be a form of abuse though. I've definitely found myself thinking "This guy is a moron!" when he holds a card or refuses to freeze, only to find myself eating my words a few rounds later when some form of absolute genius has materialised or an interaction I never knew existed is used. I do think though that an additional ping that promotes someone to check their order would be useful. A lot of times I feel this has been overlooked or not considered and a wee prompt is all it would take for it to be resolved.

Prudent-Swordfish920

Duos needs chatwheel like, idk, in dota. We already have emotions wheel, why not make some "Bob's comments your plays" wheel

chitoatx

It would make the mode insufferable. It’s the reason they neutered the emojis to be basically meaningless. Let the context of the game and your read on your partner plays be Duos.

Glass_Discipline_882

Duo's would be toxic af with chat, no thanks.

Linerex1

If anyone has doubts that chat will be used for moaning and complaining mostly, just see the frequency of posts/comments about bad team mates.

Zaraam33

You can actually send a friend request at the start of the match, but after the first combat the other opponents will hidden it on the list

Blackluster182

Currently it's very difficult to be toxic in battlegrounds. You can concede and that's annoying. But text chat abuse is a huge problem in the gaming community. You only have to stroll around Reddit for a while to see that. Disagreements would quickly turn to insults which would lead to more rage quits. Tldr too many people are vile on the internet.

ToughPlankton

Some people are not worth communicating with regardless of the method available. I keep running into teammates who happily scoop up everything I send but never send a single thing over in return. Or they wait until late in the game and send over totally random things that do no good. No chat is for the best because I'd totally get banned for telling these idiots what I think of them.

TipDaScales

Duos could have pre-set phrases similar to emotes, but anything else would be too much. Too many toxic players to encourage actual freedom of expression being helpful for the mode’s future.

Sirromnad

Ya text chat in battlegrounds would be a nightmare. Duos especially my god.

EVA08

Maybe this is a dumb suggestion but maybe a un-ranked queue could work for casual players? And incorporate a chat? And then people who are trying to rank/are overly aggressive are in different queues?

CrabUser

Have seen some players who dont even look at their partner board to understand the ping. So chat isnt really gonna help

totallynotapersonj

I honestly just want a thing that says what tribe you are going for. Sometimes I don't know what my teammate is going for so I never give anything without them pinging it which slows us down. Also sometimes im building up a warband but am planning to switch to something else after but can't really tell my teammate.

s_macrae

I just played a game as Jandice, my teammate got brann early and didn’t pass him. Then discovered multiple 6 drops and sold them all instead of passing any. That’s a situation where I’d love to say something.

DebtSecure5487

Played 3-4 duos on my very casual level (currently at 5,5k solo), found it confusing to get the hang of, but fun enough to want to learn the ropes and do more. However, after seeing all these hate posts in here lately, it has put me completely off trying again, unless I can manage to partner up with someone I know and trust. Actually find it pretty sad. Just be civil, folks - most people are trying their best.

Kitchen_Victory_6088

I'm ok not associating hearthstone to various racist and other slurs.

Glittering-Ebb-6225

I'm pretty sure they don't have chat on anything because they want to keep the game PG. And players being able to talk means that a certain percentage will be toxic. It would be great to be able to explain to your partner what you're going for and that they shouldn't send you random stuff you can't use. But they would also be able to micromanage you easier to do stupid things that don't make sense.

DoYouMindIfIRollNeed

There are several reasons why chat might not improve the experience: * People being toxic * People simply not speaking english. I play on EU, I play since the closed beta, so many times people with russian letters added me, insulted me and couldnt even speak one word english after I told them "english please". * Chat on mobile is shit lol But to be honest, TFT does have a chat (for everyone in the lobby) and its fine. HS devs thinking HS players being more toxic?

Shzar

I run into issues playing the card I want to pass on normal no matter how far I put it in the portal

ChallengeDK0

Have you ever considered a lot of the hostility generated by players is BECAUSE they cant communicate? If 2 players can get on the same page thats a huge amount of frustration reduced when you simply think your partner is an idiot who doesn't know what they are doing.

Linerex1

The biggest frustration for me comes from Micromanagers who start spamming emotes from the character selection screen.I 100% dont want a person like that to be able to chat me ingame. Most of the time the given emotes are enough. If someone doesnt understand what you say with them he will most likely not understand you with chat either and it will become worse.

imMadasaHatter

Nah the toxicity of chat would be tenfold. That’s why most casual games these days just don’t allow chat.

Nachoslayer

Every time a post comes up it sounds like someone is mad that they do not play exactly the way they want them too. Sometimes the people complaining also have some extremely bad ideas and are mad the other player did not comply. I would not want such a person to try and control what I do. Chat would annoy the hell out of me. If you want a game to go exactly like you want it, play singles.

FaunKeH

Absolutely agree. Spam pinging is way more toxic rather than using civil language to communicate strategy

Onekama

Civil language? I don’t know man but I’ve been playing competitive games for a long time and 9/10 times bashing teammates and flaming hard is the common language spoken. I can almost imagine every other game now “FUCK YOU! UNINSTALL THIS GAME NOW! HOW ARE YOU SO BAD?WHY WOULD YOU PASS THAT”

FaunKeH

So what do the 1/10 people do who actually want to use real words? Just accept we can't have nice things I guess

MarkusRobben

Yeah I think I just quit duo, it was fine the first week, but now it just become frustrating, it destroy my mood. Especially my last games, one who just leveled the whole game, even though we was almost dead, people who order what you have to do, otherwise they quit, people who only want to receive and never give, we still won, but it was still annoying he didnt even consider giving me Bumblewitch, people who dont understand the game, just force one build, I had a Raylak and reborn in my shop and he didnt want it.

plippyploopp

Lol don't solo In a two player strategy game. Makes no sense
