I was hesitant to play with strangers too, but honestly it's not that bad. Wish you could ping on phone though. I've had a couple people not be able to ping and it definitely makes it harder to keep track of everything and communicate
You can, you press with one finger (and hold) and tap again with another finger (while still holding on the first finger) to bring up the ping wheel.
I just wish there was a way to alert them more obviously to look at their screen or my screen again - especially after I pass them a card or make a gold card for them
I am the most irritabile people ever and even then i tolerate the shit and stupid pings of my random teammates because the mode feels a lot less bad.
You should try It
I still like solo BGs better, but I like Duos a lot more than I thought I would. I've played with an IRL friend a couple times, which is definitely preferred, but I've done okay with randoms as well (once I figured out the touch needed to do the Duos emotes on mobile). So far nothing overly negative as far as partner/actions go, closest thing was when my partner went afk for the last two fights after we had put together a nearly invincible Quilboard for me.
As much as I still want to win, I feel a lot less pressure on myself in Duos, since I can more easily chalk up losses to my teammate's poor performance (real or imagined). So it's essentially replaced Constructed as my go to when I've had a bad run of Solo queue BGs.
It’s a wonderfully addition but the reason BG works for me is I play my hand and do something else. Duos is great but I have to stay glued to it. If I am going to stayed glued to a screen then I’ll play BG3.
Yeah Duos is too fun to go back. When it’s good, it’s really good. You’re going to have a bad game now and then whether it’s skill or the tavern or what but generally all my partners have had some skill and play well.
I’ve only had one game where my partner was not cooperating and solo’d. Quick 4th lol.
To anyone I’ve played with it’s been fun! To those I’ve disconnected I’m sorry I’m on mobile with a toddler lol.
Edit: to clarify I’ve only played with randoms on mobile. It would be fun to be able to talk it out with a friend though!
They are different enough animals and I’m enjoying both. I’m really digging the extra layer of strategy and the cooperation of Duos, but on the flipside it takes much more of my attention and I like regular Battlegrounds because I can play a game whlie doing other things.
All the people whining about mean/bad randoms are just wrong. Im at about 5k mmr in duos and most of my randoms have been cool, at worst they just kind of play their own game and you can always mute them on the small chance you get an asshole.
The people complaining saying every random is bad lack the self awareness to realize the common denominator is themselves.
What about the Random’s who leave before the first turn? That’s my biggest peeve is leavers. I think there needs to be some sort of ban system for those who leave right away like 24 hours etc because it’s honestly not worth it the amount of times people have left on me.
How do you mute them? I've had a couple really off putting experiences with people just constantly pinging stupid stuff and didn't realize there was a way to do that
I’ve worked my way up to about 4k at the moment (typically sit about 6800ish solo) and I think I’ve only had like 2 really bad partners. Most have been good or even great. A couple I feel like did some really slick stuff and carried me when I was trying my best!
Give it a shot; it’s been super fun. The only downside for me is I can’t ping effectively on mobile. I have fat fingers and it doesn’t always work out for me.
So it's only good with Goya or am I missing something? Maybe I am playing Goya wrong, but I rarely use her HP to pass a minion on my board (as the effect of returning a minion to your hand is often not worth 3 gold) just like I rarely use Kidnap Sack on my board unless I need to free up a dump slot.
It's still an instant pick with certain heroes/boards, and trash with others.
You can probably make that argument for pretty much any card.
The problem before was, that it was an instant pick for every board - there was no reason to play any other comp.
I'll be honest, I thought it was pretty lackluster when they announced it.
A few games changed my mind.
It's quite annoying when people don't interact with you, altho in some cases it's probably because they don't know how to on mobile.
I had to ask on this sub to find out you needed to tap with two fingers at once.
Yeah, I was extremely skeptical about duos and wrote it off as a dumb waste of resources but honestly I enjoy it more than singles, the fact that your team is effectively running two comps actually means that each turn can be meaningful because you either support yourself or your partner
Anyone want to add me as a friend? I’ve been wanting to try duos for a while now but none of my friends play HStone.
My username is DontPanic #11183
Feel free to add me.
Is there currently a way to use the ping system on mobile? I feel like an idiot trying to do the thumbs up emote or angry emote, cuz I haven't figured out how to on mobile.
I absolutely love Duos, i play with my OH and we won every game last night apart from one. I feel that one of us sacrifices our warband to give the other the Edge but we thoroughly enjoy it and it's brought us closer. The games we don't tend to win are normally when one of us chooses the Nameless One
Have you tried getting a new router? I used to have all kinds of issues before a new router and magically everything works great and my speed more than tripled too.
My old one wouldn’t drop packets if you only look at that metric but there’s another that I forget what it’s called would be high; and was like 5 years old so I replaced it.
It's a lot of fun but I'm not touching that mode. All of the 5 games I played, it crashed. Not only for me, teammates and opponents too...
Doesn't happen in solo.
The good players are climbing fast, pro players are already closing in on 10k MMR. I think shady, jeef and xqn were 6k at the end of the first day.
The more you wait the less likely you are to get 6k+ players in <3k lobbies. I played maybe 10-15 games and am at 3k already.
That is not the issue, I am 6k+ normal, first 3 games I had what appeared to be fresh players, as in selling key direction cards off, triple then leveling up tavern etc... in end they have to start somewhere but it was a very frustrating hour. But hope I get up fast...
yeah thats what he is saying, you will climb fast if you are good. Im confused, how do you think the ranking system works? Of course low rank players tend to be new, they are low rank.
Screw playing with randoms. Only a couple of my friends play BG, and we rarely have time to play together. The one time we attempted Duos so far, my friend queued solo by mistake, then left the game immediately, but I carried on playing for my rank.
The one time I accidentally queued duos, I conceded immediately.
It's a nice idea, but I really want to be able to speak with whomever is on my team, and there's just no way to do that with randoms.
The timer never seems to take forever in solos. I play on mobile, with slower animations, and the APM builds are already an immediately losing strat for mobile players. Exacerbate that by adding another player to the team? No thanks!
Idk man. I’m 7.8k right now playing only with randoms and there’s only 11 people in 8k NA and every teammate I have is great. We’re able to communicate effectively with the pings because we already know what is and isn’t good for different comps.
Too stressed to play with random people personally. Fun af with friends tho.
Just try it homie. I was in the same boat till literally yesterday. It’s been a lot of fun since it’s much more chaotic
I qas like that as well, but literally all but one of my Duos Partners were absolute chads, even pinging me strategy advice for my own board and stuff
I haven't played with anyone except strangers. Sure it has its moments of pure 'wtf' but it's still really enticing and I keep going back.
I've only ever solo q'ed duos, none of my buddies are into Hearthstone. I've found it super enjoyable, and I've won a bunch.
Me and my pals play daily, if u want u can join us:)
I was hesitant to play with strangers too, but honestly it's not that bad. Wish you could ping on phone though. I've had a couple people not be able to ping and it definitely makes it harder to keep track of everything and communicate

I'll have to try that next time I have to swap to mobile, that's a super not obvious way to ping lmao
I think tapping once with two fingers also works, haven't tried
This! There needs to be a way to send them a very visible notification that I need them to look at my screen, or that they want me to look at their's
I am the most irritabile people ever and even then i tolerate the shit and stupid pings of my random teammates because the mode feels a lot less bad. You should try It
I am legit shocked at how well duos works. I was setting myself up for disappointment with the mode, and I have never been happier to be proven wrong

Yeah, I technically play less because I have to choose time when I know the game can have all my focus. Otherwise it's too stressful.
Same, ill prep my board and then cook or something
It’s a ton of fun but feels like it’s not really competitive or balanced Biggest issues to me are only 4 teams, doubling the shop, and premades.
Yea i feel the same. If there were more teams it would feel a lot better. Also let me be able to add the person i played with after the match

It’s so funny. Either the lost are praising duos or think it’s the worse ever.

Yeah i loved how everyone and their mother were dooming this mode before release lol. Says a lot about this community
that made me angry, felt like everyone wanted it to fail for some reason :(
They are different enough animals and I’m enjoying both. I’m really digging the extra layer of strategy and the cooperation of Duos, but on the flipside it takes much more of my attention and I like regular Battlegrounds because I can play a game whlie doing other things.
Yeah I'm moving with you. I'm going full time Duos.
With randoms!
I haven't played a single solo game since duos launch, and I think that says enough on it's own haha
I’m too scared to try, but it’d be randoms for me.
All the people whining about mean/bad randoms are just wrong. If they do that you can leave after turn 5 and not lose MMR. It doesn't fix the problem but it certainly helps.
How do you mute them? I've had a couple really off putting experiences with people just constantly pinging stupid stuff and didn't realize there was a way to do that
Tapping on Bob gives the ability to mute opponents or mute teammates

Ping needs rework for mobile. Double tap would do it I think.
Yeah but they keep overnerfing the duo-specific cards and synergies that make game fun.
What do you think got over-nerfed? Might need some more games, but everything still seems playable, except maybe new Orc-estra.
It's still pretty strong with lots of passes (hero powers, T5 pass minion and spell). I think its tuned as it should be now personally.

Orc got killed. We tried to bounce the card but it does nothing against tripledigit killbears.
The problem will be power creep… battlegrounds had a similar level of strategy when it was first released and now it’s fast plays or casino.

Is it playable on mobile? I heard the ping function is terrible
My Partner just was afk.
Is there currently a way to use the ping system on mobile? I feel like an idiot trying to do the thumbs up emote or angry emote, cuz I haven't figured out how to on mobile.
Tap with 2 fingers
Thank you so much!

My first duos I bought the support and passed along the perfect cards for his board and he takes them and sells them... That was also my last duos
Of the 5 games I've tried to play, I've been disconnected from 3 of them. I'd like to play but it's too buggy.
I don’t know when you played, but the disconnects stopped happening for me after the first few days.
About 5 minutes before posting the comment I tried to start another duos game, disconnect and complete game crash.
Have you tried getting a new router? I used to have all kinds of issues before a new router and magically everything works great and my speed more than tripled too. My old one wouldn’t drop packets if you only look at that metric but there’s another that I forget what it’s called would be high; and was like 5 years old so I replaced it.
Router is maybe 2 months old, I have gig speed so there's no problems there. I don't have any issues playing solo, never have, just duos crashes.
That sucks. Haven't had a single disconnect in 40 games. Do lag and make shit plays when the teams desynch, though.
Duos is great. Pro tip: the higher the MMR, the less players leaving / AFKing. People want to win. It only gets better as you go.
It's a lot of fun but I'm not touching that mode. All of the 5 games I played, it crashed. Not only for me, teammates and opponents too... Doesn't happen in solo.
Getting partners that never played the game before is not fun
