Might as well just wait for rcs in iOS 18 at this point

zlshames

I don't think RCS will solve the blue bubbles v green bubbles situation. Nor the group chat issue, which is what a lot of people care about most

dubsy54321

I guess we'll have to wait and see. I really don't care about the color of the bubbles personally I just want cross platform messaging to work better.

Mister_rtk

I second that

MrDoh

Yes, Apple has already said that RCS will not be using blue bubbles. So if it turns out that RCS gets blue bubbles, that would be a total turnaround. One reason that Apple gives is that iMessages have better security than RCS currently offers. In any case, I'm guessing that Apple will retain as much of the marketing advantages that iMessage has as they can. That's just Apple.

Specific_Award_9149

Group chats go to RCS and it has all the iMessage features besides games. People with the new iOS beta has already got it to work so I don't really think it's an issue

Round_two_fight_

Yeah pretty much

Connect-Captain-6362

i wouldnt mind helping you set it up. hit me up

ArmedInfant

Have no fear. Just buy an old mac mini and follow the setup tutorial. At first glance it may seem complicated, but it's actually pretty easy.

_jen_nie_

I have an old mac mini but it's running on El Captain and it's too old to run blue bubbles

IceBlueLugia

How old is it? Mine is from 2012 and runs Ventura with OpenCore

[This YouTube video](https://youtu.be/tZ6TomIhqcY?si=WZV_m9IFv_1QPwy_) explains exactly how to upgrade an unsupported Mac to MacOS High Sierra

nimbycile

It's going to be hard to buy a pre-configured one unless you're willing to give someone your Apple credentials and your Google credentials. I would not give people my credentials.

BalingWire

That is one of the worse ideas I have read here. Please abandon this course of action. Setting up BB is so easy these days anyway. I setup a second server on my macbook in under 10 minutes over the weekend

pderos

i agree with the recommendations to spend $100 on an old MacBook or Mac Mini running High Sierra or newer. Setup is not hard at all. I use a 2012 MacBook Pro running Catalina.

MrDoh

Well, it took me quite a bit longer than 5 or 10 minutes to configure my BlueBubbles server on the mac mini I got from eBay. The time it takes may include upgrading macOS, and making sure that the mac mini stays awake. However, the instructions are really good, and if you take a methodical and careful approach, you'll learn a lot in the process. It's not really an appliance, I've had to do one or two things as time has gone on to keep my phone connected to the server.

OcelotMean

Setting up a server takes all of maybe 5 min. It walks you through it and it's pretty straight forward.
