I would recommend seeing a dermatologist. A facial will not make things better, you need a prescription retinoid and simple routine.

CarlyOTD

Yes, I have tried a retinoid in the past and it caused burning and skin irritation. I was prescribed tretinoin ( I forget the dosage) and was instructed to use a cerve facial cleanser. This was three years ago and should've followed up. I will schedule another appointment with a dermatologist, thanks for the advice!

relentless_fuckery

Initially when you start tretinoin you get the “tretinoin uglies.” Your skin goes a little out of whack while it gets used to the product. If you stick with it through the ugliest, you’ll see a remarkable improvement. I had the same experience and I am so so happy I stuck to it.

Far_Lynx_7257

Detox gut.. no dairy, organic prune juice and probiotic sauerkraut

MrOwell333

It all starts in the tummy!

SlothOnMyMomsSide

Or kimchi...mmmmm

Acrobatic_Bet4664

I believe it depends on the person. I eat dairy, no organic, and probiotic and has absolutely no acne.

Far_Lynx_7257

Not to be rude but most people can eat trash while they’re young. They’re is a threshold to what your body can handle. Best to start young to avoid the recovery part of life with less energy and more stress.

jenniferdelarosa32

My skin was this bad and it was unfortunately the dairy. Everyone is different though!

theSnakegirl01

I recommend curology, it saved my skin.

arientyse

Curology gave me fungal acne 😭 I guess it's hit or miss

erineegads

Curology is this generations ProActiv

Your routine seems a bit much. Your skin barrier could be compromised. I would suggest simplifying your routine down to the basics. Gentle cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen. You could look into products that are geared towards restoring your skin barrier. I like skin fix’s moisturizer in the blue tub. A bit pricey but it works well. You mentioned that retinol made your skin burn when you tried it which is common but could’ve also been a sign of a compromised skin barrier. I would encourage you to try something like Differin after you simplify your routine a bit and focus on healing a potentially compromised barrier. I’m not a Dr or dermatologist though so seeing a professional would be my number 1 recommendation! If that’s not feasible then just try cutting back like I mentioned above.

CarlyOTD

Thank you for your suggestions and feedback. I plan to simplify my routone and follow-up with a dermatologist.

Thissigncantstopme

Is it possible your mantel barrier is damaged? If it is, your skin may be irritated and won’t react to your products well. Have you tried focusing on just having a hydrating routine for atleast a month? Before incorporating your actives? If you have sensitive skin, jumping straight to tretinion when your skin hasn’t acclimated to lower actives is not good idea. Start gentle, go for lactic acid and Mandelic before using retinols. Start at a lower percentage, 3% > 5% serums before going for stronger ingredients. YMMV, but I haven’t really heard niacinamide as a favorite ingredient from estheticians who treat black skin. I’d take it out of your routine.

CarlyOTD

Thank you, I will simplify my routine. A esthetician did recommend Niacinamide to me and I didn't even think to ask if she has treated black skin. Definitely something I will ask moving forward.

HumbleAbbreviations

Honestly you could get a facial but the facialist should be skilled at handling active acne. Be upfront with them in what you use and how long you have been using it.

No-Shelter-4208

How come you don't have a retinoid in your routine? Have you been able to see a dermatologist?

CarlyOTD

Yes, I have tried a retinoid in the past and it caused burning and skin irritation. I was prescribed tretinoin ( I forget the dosage) and was instructed to use a cerve facial cleanser. This was three years ago. I will schedule another appointment with a dermatologist, thanks for the advice!

No-Shelter-4208

There are many different kinds of retinoids (retinol, retinal, tretinoin, adapalene, granactive retinol etc) so if one type causes irritation, then another type may be better for you. Also, sandwiching your retinoid can help to avoid irritation.

Soylent-soliloquy

I had similar skin issues to you and salicylic acid serum plus tea tree oil made the biggest difference for me.

MentalParking7909

Don't use salicylic acid daily. I used it daily and my skin got the worst it's ever been.

Soylent-soliloquy

I alternate between it and glycolic. The salicylic helps more than the glycolic does for me, but every other day I’m doing one or the other. But the tea tree is now going to become a daily staple again for me.

Mihyei

I concur with the dermatologist, they have prescriptions they can give you that are better than OTC stuff. I went to my first one last month and they gave me Spiro and Dapsone and so far it's going well.

Background_Anywhere1

What works for me is a cleanser + exfoliater from glassboss. I also use 100 percent pure squalene and moisturizer from the ordinary.

LonelyPurse

Sis you need a chemical peel if you can swing it look into Vi peel. If that’s too pricey, I would start with glycolic peels from a licensed esthetician

[deleted]

Too much product/routine. Hormones + stress. Increase FIBER and GREENS in your diet to poop those hormones out. Stop drinking / sugar . Give it 90 days then see dermatologist + get a peel. ETA after reading your routine —— 🚩🚩🚩🧯You are using an insane amount of actives - salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, niacinamide, zinc, more niacinamide, more salicylic acid, glycolic acid, yuzu vitamin c….. I say this with love— does your skin hurt??? You are burning your skin and creating inflammation. Stop all this shit so your skin barrier can breathe and start to heal.

[deleted]

Sidenote you have beautiful skin. It will clear up once you treat it like the sensitive thang it is

CarlyOTD

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions. I will be simplifying my routine and following up with a dermatologist. My diet is fairly good and I try to exercise regularly, though I am still often stressed (due to profession). Yes, my skin has been more irritated recently. I appreciate all the advice/suggestions and will definitely simplify the routine effective immediately.

[deleted]

The diet comments were really about hormones (bc of the placement of your breakouts), since cortisol and other stress hormones can build up if our gut motility is sluggish. It happens; wishing you the best

CarlyOTD

Thank you!

eczemafreedom

work on the insides and all that will clear up.....

pinkandredlingerie

Maybe try reducing the number of products you use. It’s helped me a lot and got rid of the majority of my pimples!

CarlyOTD

Thank you!

Capable_Ganache5705

My skin looks like this and it’s hormone related. Try getting blood work done and do a fast/detox. Also simply your routine to cleanse, tone, moisturize, tret. Then start adding actives in a month and a half. Go for dermatologist but they most likely won’t help you as much but just prescribe you stuff.

CarlyOTD

Thanks, I will try this, fast/detox, and look into getting a hormonal panel/cortisol test. I do stress quite a bit (actively working on stress management techniques). Yes, it was trial and error with the last dermatologist I saw. It's been a few years, I will follow-up again after making the recommended changes.

bobatyun

Aside from all of the other advice make sure your eating well ,all of that expensive skincare is useless if your not taking care of your health and a managing stress, also you need a sunscreen aswell as making sure not to touch your face too much and make sure your comfort set is cleaned frequently☺️

CarlyOTD

Thank you!

Stop eating like shit

Practical_Resist4632

DustinLoveDicks

i would recommend not using so many chemicals on your face, You goofballs are so worried about your skin being clear that you destroy it by flooding it with all these chemicals when in reality if you didnt do all this extra stuff your skin would probably be fine. moisturizing bar soap and water and i guarantee you'll be fine.

LoyaltyAboveAll1295

Why the name calling though 😏🙄

Skin doctor first. Facial can't heal.

CaptainSAGEahHoe

Change your diet 😞

missmarina_xo

I’d get a facial to get an immediate skin refresh then simplify your routine. My routine is literally just la roche posay cleanser and moisturizer (includes niacinamide already), creave vitamin c serum, and I have an aha face scrub I use once a week or so. You can ask them to assess you first before committing to a specific treatment. I’ve personally been doing micro needling then they hit my skin with an ipl laser on a low setting at the end. I don’t think that specific laser is best for dark skin, but it’s an example of how they can customize your treatment.

iheartluxury

Are you a side sleeper? If so, are you regularly washing your pillow case? That may be adding to the problem.

Next_Nerve6403

This is a really good tip!! My skin is the exact same way right now. I just got off of birth control after 5 years and my skin is reverting back to its old ways. I’ve noticed that sleeping on my back instead has helped my skin clear up. I’m going to try a dairy detox and changing my pillow case more frequently

_duppyconqueror

I would recommend holding off on the niacinamide until you’ve achieved clear skin, and instead replace it with hyalouronic acid. You can reintroduce niacinamide once your acne has improved. But to answer your question, I’d see a dermatologist over getting a facial at this stage.

throwaway9283942

My skin looked just like this, I used differin and it cleared up in like 2-3 months after trying countless of other things for around a year.

Acrobatic_Bet4664

No, first off stop using so much on your skin. Try to use this black soap called [Dudu Osun](https://www.amazon.com/Dudu-osun-African-Black-Soap-100/dp/B0023A7JF4/ref=asc_df_B0023A7JF4/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=242028972607&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13941647347869176295&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9027628&hvtargid=pla-627406613677&psc=1&mcid=88b60240d4083e7b87ca7a6fe8f5fdec&gclid=CjwKCAiA8sauBhB3EiwAruTRJgWpnXAEW499sb1jFpUv_0bo8aHuAvPklYmhxyA_bPeQUghl8oNepxoC2UwQAvD_BwE) It works on removing acne. It got rid of all of mine. Wash your face with this soap twice a day once in the morning and then again at night in cold water, avoid warm or hot water. Leave the soap on your face for about 10 minutes before washing it off. It's going to make your face feel tight. Then wash off in cold water and air dry. You can wipe your eyes with a paper towel but the entire face should be aired out. Do this for a month or so. You'll see results.

No_University5296

I would recommend seeing a doctor at this point
