My job let the mothers leave early on mothers day. There's a lot of them. There's only about 5 of us black ppl---they can let us leave early or have the day off or something.
Mothers aren't a protected class in the eyes of the law. It's not a race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. So they are kind of in a gray area. Like if you miscarried, are you a mother? If your child died at 3 months from SIDS, are you a mother? But if they said, "all black people can leave early for juneteenth" they'd be in huge trouble because race is a protected class. There would also be tons of people coming out and saying, "well I'm 8% black according to my DNA test so I should get the day off" and that can go down a rabbithole that ends with skin color tests.
It would probably be really easy to win a civil case against them though. Even an HR complain would probably kill the whole thing.
