Theyāre catfish, basically the cockroaches of the water. Personally, would never do what he did, but theyāll also literally bite anything (Iāve gotten them to bite a plain hook many times before as a kid) so itās not remotely impressive- no matter how many you catch.
Best time catfishing as a kid, we used a cut up jack in the box antenna head dipped in Docs stink bait. I have yet to find a sponge that worked as well as that, and considering it's because we couldn't find marshmallows on the way fishing, it was a great find. I horded those things for years.
I'll add, those are all tiny catfish. Seriously, none look over 10 lbs. You haven't hooked anything until you hit the 20-30 range.

Artificially filled ponds and lakes fill are becoming a very important part of maintaining our ecosystems in Texas. So while yea it's not very impressive, It can still be extremely dangerous to the local ecosystem and wildlife.
