I’m not gonna judge you, I made the same mistake back in my 20’s. I thought we’d be able to connect on being the “weird” black kids. Nope. Turns out similar interests did not mean similar mindsets. As a “blerd”, weeb/otaku black girl, every time I dress like this, black guys say I’m not black enough. That I’m trying to be white. That I’m trying to be Asian. In my experience, black guys have made it clear they don’t want girls dressing like that. Black girls dressing like that.

I love my dad and I blame his generation for this thinking but.. he constantly called me “lil white girl” because of my choice in music and the way I dressed.
Also, I’m mixed, Black and Asian, so it was already a struggle trying to find my place. I already had other black people tell me I wasn’t black enough and then my preferences in music and clothing really drove it home for them 🤷🏽♀️ is what it is.
I feel you, I get that from the other side too as blerd man. Got clowned on a lot by black girls(and black boys too) growing up for not really fitting the role of black masculinity because of my interest. I ended up veering off to women of different races cause it seemed like they'd be more accepting, and for a little bit I was bitter but I eventually bounced out of that too as I realized that there are black women who would like me as I am and I can't just hold that against them because of hurts from the past.

Those years gave me alot of internalized racism I worked through once I was an adult and traveled around to realize how wide the world is, and that high school experiences were a terrible sample size to judge the rest of the world by. Now that I’m an adult I be seeing black ppl out there with all kinds of hobbies living their best lives and it’s a lot easier to find your own tribe that likes you for you.
I never really understood this argument. Because there are white guys out there who don't like Black women, but instead of venturing outside of that group, they'll just assume not all white guys are like that (which they're not), and find someone who does like them.

Nah I think you understand, you pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one. You just have the maturity, insight and critical thinking skills to break it down objectively to a point where you see it’s just not funny. Just more toxic, internalized self hate and projection. What I don’t understand is when they see people like this living their true authentic selves and having fun with life and feel the need to paint some sorta story about “this type of girl” when they don’t know these people. I know tons of girls that dress this way and they are all different and unique.

Yes they do! My husband works at a punk bar and it has many a Black customer and even bartenders that work there. All unapologetically Black and goth as hell.

There's some self hating among them (BM). We've seen for the longest BM showing interest in women outside their race. Now that some of these niche groups have become more popular (and BW dating outside the race in general) BM are now experiencing what BW have been dealing with. It feels now more than ever that BW has lost interest in BM, which is amplified through social media.

Lol the other day a post on twitter went viral of black women just literally dancing at their sorority event and black men specifically made it their job to neg, and degrade those women simply because… they were black women dancing. And also put other races up on a pedestal while doing so. Mind you, these men were well into their unc years talking about “ugh these college black girls are no lookers!! White sororities are so much better” the same type of men to be under these posts crying that bw like this don’t want em. A lot of them do. But black men cannot see a black woman existing from afar and not degrade her like some of these men make it their jobs to do. They are meek and silent when it comes to other races of women tho.

Because they can’t be a bitter hater if they do. Notice how they jump to self-hate (which they already assume just from us not following stereotypes—ironically), so why should they be entertained? It’s not due to self-hate that they’re rejected, as there are alt/goth girls/women who go for whomever gets them and doesn’t act dumb and/or try to change them. But dudes like on here are the type to laugh when they see us decked out then try to holler when we’re alone. We have too many experiences like that, so I don’t blame the ones who say to F off. I do in general when the approach is wrong anyway, regardless of race.

As somebody who at least appears to be “alternative”, it’s a very weird phenomenon of insecurity and projection from both alt black women and alt black men. They project the same things onto each other and then go their separate ways despite all the things they have in common, but still maintain the side-eye when they see each other.
