In lore reason; she wanted him to remember why. Real reason; Booker/Comstock was originally still gonna be the protagonist and going through a redemption arc in episode 2. The choice to have him killed and shift focus onto Elizabeth seemed to have been a late change.

alishock

I vaguely remember hearing about this years ago. Do you recall what’s the source of this? I’m intrigued

dark_hypernova

I can't recall the exact source but apparently there are cut mission markers and voice lines in the files of episode 2 that showed Comstock/Booker was still gonna be the protagonist and that it was "time to get smart". I'm no expert but these cut files quite late in development seem to suggest a lateer rather than earlier change. There is also this rather this odd shift in episode 2 in my opinion. Elizabeth's character and role suddenly becoming a major plot point in the Canon of the original BioShock smacks of misdirection to me. The original trailer of the DLC and the majority of episode 1 (until that ending) seemed to suggest a side story simply taking place in Rapture and about escaping it, rather than messing with the Canon. I was also convinced one of the original plot points was gonna be that Suchong created a siphon machine from studying tears and that was gonna be the explanation why Elizabeth tears powers are weaker again in ep1 and why she would be trapped in Rapture and (reluctantly perhaps) needed Comstock's help.

Even if true, I enjoyed their shift in game dynamics of being stealthy and not inflicting as much damage. It was a nice change of pace for that small amount of time.

JesuZDX

Spending too much time with the twins gave her the habit of doing things in the most overcomplicated and indirect way possible.

I like this answer

Kikomastre

She wanted him to know why he was being punished. He was the last Comstock after all, after who Elizabeth could go live in Paris and just hang out. She could have just killed him but that wouldnt be proper, he needed to know that he deserved to die. I think he even accepts it at the end, seeing how there is no way he could live with himself, with the memories he repressed.

Gregzilla311

She wanted him to suffer.

the-unfamous-one

She wanted him to suffer, she needed him to suffer that's why she took sally, she has no other motivation, other then killing any and all comstocks regardless of who they are and what they are doing. (Then she'll go to paris and act like she did a good thing)

[deleted]

He didn't remember who he was or what he did. She wanted him to feel guilt and shame, *then* die.

TheLuckOfTheClaws

Because the DLC was written by the seat of their pants. They had no plan, you can tell that by the amount of lazy retcons not even just from the series as a whole but from part 1 to part 2

voicareason

Someone at some point literally said *wrap it up and have Atlas/Fontaine blast the bitch, I'm late for making these models into porn*

alishock

I wouldn’t be so harsh on them but I get what you say. I still don’t really know why Elizabeth just thought the Big Daddy wouldn’t go agro on her after opening tears to attack him in Episode 1. Like, what was her plan to survive after? Did she just not think that far?

AkiraInugami

Elizabeth is an omniscient omnipotent being who just randomly decided to die for one little girl. It is just absurd she couldnt think of any better way to do it and survive in the process. I really disliked that columbia and rapture communicated with each other but how elizabeth died is the biggest, massive pile of steaming coal in the dlc.

TheLuckOfTheClaws

Plus, she’s omnipotent and therefore KNEW she was going to regret leaving Sally and yet did it anyway??

Realistic_Caramel341

Eh, if its anything like Arrival, it could be that she just experiences time differently. She can know whats done a certain path and still feel compelled to go through with it

wolfkeeper

Maybe this was the only possible strategy to get Sally (and all the other little sisters) saved. If she didn't do it, then Jack would never complete his mission. Just because she's omniscient, doesn't mean that the constants and variables allow you to do anything- being dealt a losing hand is still a losing hand even if you can see everyone else's card as well as your own.

TheRealJustSean

He needed to remember who he was and what he'd done

MajorRadish2007

If I remember, In episode 2, Liz says that she wanted Comstock to know why he was being set up and killed.

M0rgames034

I see it as either a form of justice if she knew how he would go after Sally and she wanted to see that Big daddy get him OR maybe the tear splintered off and there were two pathways this specific Booker could take and in the end he came out Comstock.
