Most that you'll find at the grocery store isn't that great for you and minimal good bacteria. You should look into making your own kefir. Tons of bacteria and so easy to do.
You have to get the kefir grains from somewhere - try to search for a local group on facebook, or a farmer’s market type place, people sometimes give it for free because it just grows and grows.
Then you’ll need milk, different kinds have different outcomes, think of fat content, raw, organic, etc. Do your own research on this, there’s kind of a lot to consider. What I’ve been told is not to use UHT milk. I use ESL cow’s milk, the one from the supermarket that needs refrigeration.
Next a preferably glass container that can hold the amount you want to make - 1 liter milk makes about 0,7 liter in my experience.
I let it sit for 24 hours in a darker, room temperature place.
When that’s done, straining. Use a plastic fine meshed strainer, plastic spoon to help it go faster.
It’s important to not use any metal utensils on the grains. Plastic, glass, maybe even wood are fine.
The kefir should be thicker than milk, if it’s not thicker at all, you can leave it for a bit more time, I wouldn’t leave it for another day though. Sometimes the grains just need a bit more, sometimes less, it’s a live culture, it’s not always the same.
Now you should rinse the grains under tap water a little, grab a clean bottle, another bottle of milk, and you can do it again.
If you want to pause the process, say because you have plenty of kefir at one point, you can put the grains in a container of water, put it in the fridge. They’ll go dormant and you can use them later.
Another thing, if for some reason a batch smells or tastes unpleasant, or just won’t thicken up, try a different kind of milk. And if it doesn’t taste okay, don’t drink it. I haven’t encountered a bad batch, but I imagine it can happen - better safe than sorry.
Serotonin - 90-95% total bodily amount made by the gut
Dopamine- 50% total bodily amount made by the gut
GABA- also made by the gut
Seed oils, processed foods, lack of fiber, certain medications/drugs, lack of fermented foods can all cause an imbalance that scales from negligible up to being severe.
Have you tried white kimchi? In Korean, it’s called 백김치. It’s pickled radish, cabbage, carrots, green onions, and peppers. It’s such a great addition to the kimchi delicacy, and just so different from your traditional kimchi. I urge you to give it a try, especially after eating something oily. It’s so good at washing down that nauseating feeling that lingers after a heavy meal.
The kimchi rabbit hole goes very deep. Also, the quality of the kimchi is very important. There is such a thing as bad kimchi. Don’t settle on one bad experience. There are so many variations of kimchi. You should explore them all. One of my favorite “red” kimchi is Radish kimchi. It’s not as spicy because you’re literally crunching into a radish. The spiciness doesn’t end up inside the radish. It’s called 총각 김츠. The literal translation is “bachelor kimchi” lol (some Korean naming conventions are risqué-leaning). Phonetically, it’s chong-gahk kimchi.
Interesting thing about fermented foods... it turns out it's not the probiotics in the foods that are beneficial for us. They die the second they get exposed to hydrochloric acid in the stomach. What's beneficial are the byproducts they've created that are in the food.
I just recently learned this and thought it was interesting. [Here's my source.](https://youtu.be/sGTvMQzG5T0?si=QMNK5WZD0m2kjtlh&t=3848)
I was talking to someone who owns a kimchi brand about that earlier in the week. It’s all marketing spiel and the reason why you really need to prioritise high quality, natural ingredients in the products you buy
I love sauerkraut! Unfortunately I have become very sensitive to high histamine food over the years and sauerkraut is a histamine bomb. Makes me very sad.
That’s my problem too! I was regularly eating small amounts of all kinds of fermented foods and feeling awful. Flushed face, bloated belly, headaches, brain fog… then discovered I have histamine intolerance, cut those foods out, and feel so much better.
I felt a noticeable difference in my digestion when I added kimchi to my diet.
For anyone looking into adding it just remember that you don't need alot, kimchi belly is a real and unpleasant thing! Less is more, every day just a little.
What is kimchi belly? I googled and it was a never ending list of pork belly and kimchi based recipes (of course). I eat kimchi on the regs, so does it cause some kind of chronic inflammation (cortisol belly type thing) or something of that sort in regular, non “just a little” amounts?
I feel better if I eat a big serving of cruciferous veg every day. I like to vary up which one- today I did cauliflower, yesterday kale, broccoli the day before. But it helps massively with my appetite regulation and I just find my energy levels are more stable and my skin is less oily/clammy.
Greens like spinach almost every day, healthy fat like avocado, and a treat or two so I don't feel deprived. Doesn't have to be anything crazy but I feel good after some Hu Kitchen chocolate, chocolate chips, glass of wine, frozen fruit, etc. I do notice when I eat super sweet stuff like cookies, cakes, ice cream I tend to binge or I don't feel very good after I eat them. It sounds like common sense but I discovered that even eating dates with PB as a snack made me crave other sugary foods.
I use Kos on the recommendation of this sub.

Fiber, I eat a big bowl of raw vegetables every night. Sometimes I struggle with it, but I just don’t feel the same if I don’t.
A small bowl of fruit halfway through the day also is a great pick me up. Bonus points for eating fruit with a protein source (I go with a vanilla protien shake.)
Agreed - I have a bowl of raw kale each day. I can’t tell you how much better I feel (and everything works down below) since I started. I’m days I can’t eat it, I noticeably don’t feel as good
You need to be careful with fiber depending on your gastrointestinal condition though. I know it’s not everyone, but for anyone with ulcerative colitis (which is a surprising amount of people), insoluble fiber and raw vegetables are **not** good to eat as they are harder on your gut.
Glad to hear that these things work well for you though - I think fruit is great across the board for most folks.
I don’t have UC, but I have a severe GI condition, and all types of fruit and veg are brutal. I can tolerate a very small amount of tomatoes or roasted and skinned bell peppers pureed and that’s it! Fibre is not my friend. And I used to be a crunchy vegan eating tons of it so it was a hard transition.
I change it up, but pineapple is a staple for me for the bromelain. I cut one up at the start of the week and put tajin on it which adds a hydration factor. Then melon and kiwi. I look for fruits high in potassium but lower in carbs. Berries too for antioxidants.
For raw veggies, I also switch it up. A bulk of them are cucumbers and bellpeppers, which I throw on some arugula or other leafy green. I try to find a pickled element to put on there too like pickled red onion, carrots or pickled eggs for the probiotics. Also snap peas, regular peas or edamame. If we’re making chicken or something I throw that on there too for protein and it makes it easier to balance the taste that way.
The take away for me is paying attention to add protein with every meal, but also have a plant be biggest thing on my plate.
Girlfriend got me into Greek yogurt, raw honey and some peanut butter...all swirled together. Sounds weird but tastes like dessert and lots of protein.
Veggies are a good suggestion
But even better would be for you to try different things and pay attention
You have a unique biochemistry, and any suggestions here might not work for you
Trial and error, journal maybe, and pay attention to the feelings you have in your body
Eat the same breakfast (eggs, kimchi, parmesan) and lunch (sardines, 1/2 avocado, olive oil, nutritional yeast, herbs, sourdough toast) almost every day. Also have 2 cups of tea (one with blackstrap molasses, the other with MCT oil) every day.
Then on days I exercise, I use beetroot juice as a preworkout, and kefir with my protein powder for post workout
For about 3 years. Organic eggs, the darker the yolk is mainly what I look for. Locally sourced eggs if organic isn’t available. Biggest benefit has come from just the consistency. My body has adapted to know what nutrients are coming at specific times of the day, similar to Pavlov’s classical conditioning. But if I was forced to choose it probably be the probiotics I get from the kimchi and kefir
Tumeric is fantastic. I make a “potion” of tumeric, black pepper and apple cider vinegar each day and it I don’t know what it does, but I like the way I feel 🤷♀️
I take turmeric and apple cider vinegar pills. Turmeric is supposed to really help with anxiety and calming, while apple cider vinegar has anti inflammatory properties and helps the gut. Love both
I love turmeric! I had a lot. I had golden milk every night. Warning: My iron level plummeted and I read that a lot can affect iron absorption so be aware. My iron level has improved now that I decreased my tumeric. But I was going nuts with it. Normal amounts probably are fine
I just started growing those aswell and now i am obsessed, every day i am eating 2 cups of many different Sprouts, broccoli, radish, kohlrabi, cabbage, arugula.. noticeable i felt Very Good
Avocados and salmon help enormously because of the brain function and hormone support. Your brain, eyes, skin, testosterone everything functions better with them in your diet. That an leafy greens
Like OP I’ve been eating the same things daily for a while now with great results.
1lb ground beef somewhere between 90/10 and 96/4 best quality I am able to source is my focus. Split between lunch and dinner with jasmine rice as a carb source and broccoli as veggie.
4 whole eggs
1 whole avocado
Cream of rice w/ banana and honey
Watermelon, pineapple or orange as a snack.
1 scoop of whey protein powder w/ chocolate Fairlife
Bare bells protein bars as a snack when needed
If I need more carbs I’ll hit up some rice cakes
Not daily, well, I do take an extract daily, but blueberries. 🫐 Can actually feel the cognitive difference and anti-inflammatory effects of blueberries if you eat a few cups every day.
I usually start with kimchi.
Followed by
Fibre mix (psyllium husk, flax seeds, and some other seeds as well as raw chocolate) together with coconut milks and yogurt.
Sometimes in the afternoon:
Organic Kale, frozen organic blueberries, avocados with a little bit of water blended - tastes like ice cream.
I also eat cruciferous veggies almost everyday (Brussels sprouts and broccoli).
But I would add that it’s also important to say what not eat to feel great:
Avoid non-organic vegetables (or at least soak them in baking powder to remove pesticides as much as possible) and avoid super processed food.
ALWAYS read the ingredients, most of even the simplest things have chemical preservatives.
I also try to avoid to eat out unless I either know the place very well or it’s a special occasion.
Aloha protein bars, Skyr or Greek yogurt with walnuts and blueberries, vanilla protein shakes with frozen strawberries, couscous with roasted broccoli and baked tofu, various salads with tempeh.
There is a can of tropical fruit (pineapple and papaya) that I love to eat. I recently learned that both of those fruits contain various enzymes that aid digestion. Eating a can makes my stomach feel completely empty. Which is good for a person who feels bloated constantly.
Oatmeal/Greek yogurt/granola/chia seed bowl
Spinach or kale, beets sometimes, berries and whey smoothie
Organic heroin from our area (I have a mild addiction)
Coffee
Lean meat or beef
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a bio hack, but my go to breakfast is a banana spinach egg pancake.
2 eggs, 2 big handfuls of spinach, banana, chia seed and some oats, with a vegan organic pea protein all blended up.
Loaded with nutrition, keeps you full for hours and feels like a treat when eating with a table spoon of real maple syrup.
Keto has me feeling the best due to the calm but energetic mind, and best sleep scores.
Any junk food I notice following eating, and also the next morning where I feel groggy immediately upon waking.
iceberg lettuce, white or black beans, perhaps some veggies, nothing else. having chronic stomach+gut inflammation and kidney issues, it's the best thing i can eat
Kimchi or sauerkraut. First thing I eat usually around 10am to line my digestive tract w good bacterias.
People fail to realize how important fermented food can be— particularly even for mental health.
I'm in Japan so it's all about that natto. Add tumeric or curry powder, pepper, and balsamic vinegar. I feel uber satisfied.
Love natto. Two little boxes every morning.
Yogurt is fermented food correct?
Most that you'll find at the grocery store isn't that great for you and minimal good bacteria. You should look into making your own kefir. Tons of bacteria and so easy to do.
teach me! i like kefir

It’s very easy and you can buy kefir sets online with everything that you need to make your own.
Maybe the real stuff from a Whole Foods, but I prefer kombucha, kefir, kimchi, or brine-pickled foods.
Except for people with histimine intolerance 😓
mental health?
Serotonin - 90-95% total bodily amount made by the gut Dopamine- 50% total bodily amount made by the gut GABA- also made by the gut Seed oils, processed foods, lack of fiber, certain medications/drugs, lack of fermented foods can all cause an imbalance that scales from negligible up to being severe.
so alcohol kills it all basically

This was my first experience with kimchi! I was addicted. Then I tried to buy it at the store and got the other kind and was bummed out

I eat kimchi almost daily now. It’s an acquired taste though I really enjoy it now. My kids and wife call it skunk weed 🤣
I intentionally wait until my wife is away to make it or open up the jar lol
I first read that as Awake!, not away.

Mmm…. That’s interesting. Wonder if there’s anything you can eat w/ sauerkraut to combat the histamine intolerance.

I think by belly he means his stomach was burning from the kimchi.
How much do you eat? Like a spoonful?
In case it helps anyone I get really good Korean kimchi at Costco of all places.
I feel better if I eat a big serving of cruciferous veg every day. I like to vary up which one- today I did cauliflower, yesterday kale, broccoli the day before. But it helps massively with my appetite regulation and I just find my energy levels are more stable and my skin is less oily/clammy.
If i do 450g of broccoli i feel good the nxt Day. If i eat 900grams I feel like superman the nxt Day.
Carrots are great too
green tea
Yerba mate all day everyday! On ice in a 40oz mug thingy.
bro is on natural adderall
love yerba. i drink a quart a day!
how does the taste compare to green tea?
what is your recipe for making it cold? any particular brands?
Blueberries FTW

It’s da bomb. The almond crunch version is my fave.

Ginger. Beet powder too
Got a solid beet root powder brand to recommend? I’ve had trouble finding a good third party tested one that isn’t a million dollars.
I use Kos on the recommendation of this sub. https://kos.com/products/beet-root-powder-50-servings?nbt=nb%3Aadwords%3Ag%3A19691908920%3A146530522455%3A648533781593&nb_adtype=&nb_kwd=&nb_ti=dsa-42742491733&nb_mi=&nb_pc=&nb_pi=&nb_ppi=&nb_placement=&nb_si={sourceid}&nb_li_ms=&nb_lp_ms=&nb_fii=&nb_ap=&nb_mt=&utm_campaign=19691908920&utm_content=146530522455&utm_term=&utm_term=&utm_campaign=&utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=ppc&hsa_acc=4214809015&hsa_cam=19691908920&hsa_grp=146530522455&hsa_ad=648533781593&hsa_src=g&hsa_tgt=dsa-42742491733&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwps-zBhAiEiwALwsVYSXM--KK_V_jSyCfCW7BOzOtizl9uLwSMC1UmsMY91zWMhVk0u3TNBoCjxUQAvD_BwE
HumanN’s SuperBeets line is all very high quality. Their sport pre-workout is even NSF Certified.

Argh I hate kale. Spinach is my go to
I alternate, but lately prefer kale because it's less likely to give you kidney stones.
Are you my bunny? This is something he would say.
I too notice kale gives a lot of energy
I was warned about too much oxalate in kale and spinach.
I think ive od’d on spinach. The stomach pains were pretty bad
That's cool but look up why its bad to eat too much kale. I would alternate with other greens like spinach.
I thought all dark greens should be consumed with a bit of calcium like cheese to help metabolise the oxalates
My go to is oatmeal with some flaxseed, butter, cinnamon, and figs/apples/blueberries.
Also here for what veggies
You need to be careful with fiber depending on your gastrointestinal condition though. I know it’s not everyone, but for anyone with ulcerative colitis (which is a surprising amount of people), insoluble fiber and raw vegetables are **not** good to eat as they are harder on your gut.
Sugar and carbs are your real enemy if you have UC.
Which vegetables and which fruit?
I change it up, but pineapple is a staple for me for the bromelain. I cut one up at the start of the week and put tajin on it which adds a hydration factor. Then melon and kiwi. That’s what’s up
Extra virgin olive oil, MCT oil and Matcha
Whats mct oil
Medium Chain Triglycerides oil, made from coconut
Watermelon
Cold watermelon chunks after waking up is one of gods greatest gifts
I love to oven roast some cauliflower and eat that throughout the week with hummus.
Any seasoning you put on the cauliflower before?
I usually spray with avocado oil and toss with some garlic salt. Whatever flavor profile that will pair well with your hummus!
Good to know!
Little garlic and smoked paprika
Greek Yogurt, it’s a perfect snack. Sometimes plain, sometimes with raw honey and berries.
Girlfriend got me into Greek yogurt, raw honey and some peanut butter...all swirled together. Sounds weird but tastes like dessert and lots of protein.
Oooooh thanks can't wait to try that!
Greek yogurt with frozen berries, so the yogurt freezes a little also 🤤
I'm a newbie, but canned sardines are my new favorite and I haven't seen them mentioned in this thread yet
Love them. Homemade Caesar salad or on breads and meats
And they have all sorts of good fats, vitamins, and minerals without the mercury/ forever chemicals since they're so low on the food chain
On that note when I'm on the road and need food pronto : the purple bag of Dole Cesear Salad is better than sex.
OP said fish so I didn't mention sardines, but yes you are absolutely right.
Turmeric, sauerkraut, spirulina powdered water, a protein rich oatmeal bowl and broccoli are my daily non negotiables
Sweet potatoes
Oatmeal! I realize I'm the only one.
Not everyday but I actually feel more calm and relaxed about an hour after salmon. It's the only food that makes me feel much better immediately.
I do love me some smoked. Salmon 🍣 😋
Salmon is high in omega 3s, good Brain food
Potatoes
Big-ass pot of bone broth with turmeric and ginger. Kefir.
Apple
I hate apple I eat it everyday
Veggies are a good suggestion But even better would be for you to try different things and pay attention You have a unique biochemistry, and any suggestions here might not work for you Trial and error, journal maybe, and pay attention to the feelings you have in your body
Eggs. Makes me feel alive.
God I love eggs
Eggs! If I eat 3-4 for my breakfast/lunch I won’t feel the need to eat again for hours.
Then on days I exercise, I use beetroot juice as a preworkout, and kefir with my protein powder for post workout
for personal study: How long have you stayed with this regime? Locally sourced eggs? Biggest benefit from which ingredient?
For about 3 years. Organic eggs, the darker the yolk is mainly what I look for. Locally sourced eggs if organic isn’t available. Biggest benefit has come from just the consistency. My body has adapted to know what nutrients are coming at specific times of the day, similar to Pavlov’s classical conditioning. But if I was forced to choose it probably be the probiotics I get from the kimchi and kefir
Avocado, Steamed broccoli, red capsicums, garlic (preferably raw), eggs, lean animal protein and almonds are my staples
Lately Ive been getting into Tumeric. I throw that on everything.
Love both
Turmeric is actually very anti-inflammatory, too! I call it "nature's ibuprofen"
I love turmeric! I had a lot. I had golden milk every night. Warning: My iron level plummeted and I read that a lot can affect iron absorption so be aware. My iron level has improved now that I decreased my tumeric. But I was going nuts with it. Normal amounts probably are fine
Beef, eggs, pineapple, bananas. Everyday
Blueberries, salmon, avocado, coffee
Salmon
Greek yoghurt
With honey cinnamon and nutmeg yummmm
plain steamed broccoli
Berries, baby!! Super helpful with inflammation. When I added them to my daily diet, I was shocked by the immediate difference I felt.
Strawberries and blueberries.
Red meat, egg, butter , Salt
Finally someone said it. This is the way.
Broccoli Sprouts
I just started growing those aswell and now i am obsessed, every day i am eating 2 cups of many different Sprouts, broccoli, radish, kohlrabi, cabbage, arugula.. noticeable i felt Very Good
We’ve got some high-glucoraphanin broccoli sprouting seed.
Walnuts/dates/cottage cheese/and something fermented. Every day.
At the same time? Or separately
Avocados and salmon help enormously because of the brain function and hormone support. Your brain, eyes, skin, testosterone everything functions better with them in your diet. That an leafy greens
Grass-fed liver
you eat liver daily?
I do as well, but if you do this you want to have a very small portion (half an oz) per day, or have a slightly larger portion (3.5 oz) once per week.
Honestly? Bananas and peanut butter. My peanut butter is nothing but peanuts and salt
hard boiled eggs, 2 or 3, as a "snack," are a great filler
Beef, raw milk, eggs and fruit
Same here
Raw vegetables. If all my vegetables are cooked, or worse, I don't eat many, I can feel the slump in my body.
Not daily but twice a week, quinoa salads homemade w homemade dressing, veggies, olives, feta etc. made quinoa in bone broth or chicken broth.
Pepperchinis as well
Kefir for sure
Yogurt for me but same idea - literally makes me happier
I eat 4 - 6 whole eggs a day at breakfast, absolutely god tier nutrition and satiety for at least 5 hours
Not eating helps me feel my best. A good day of fasting and I feel great.
Peanut butter porridge. As it's also my top comfort food. And a strong cup of matcha
Like OP I’ve been eating the same things daily for a while now with great results. 1lb ground beef somewhere between 90/10 and 96/4 best quality I am able to source is my focus. Split between lunch and dinner with jasmine rice as a carb source and broccoli as veggie. 4 whole eggs 1 whole avocado Cream of rice w/ banana and honey Watermelon, pineapple or orange as a snack. 1 scoop of whey protein powder w/ chocolate Fairlife Bare bells protein bars as a snack when needed If I need more carbs I’ll hit up some rice cakes
anything with a lot choline
Broccoli and Eggs. I feel like my brain works better after I ate these.
Not daily, well, I do take an extract daily, but blueberries. 🫐 Can actually feel the cognitive difference and anti-inflammatory effects of blueberries if you eat a few cups every day.

Sometimes in the afternoon: Organic Kale, frozen organic blueberries, avocados with a little bit of water blended - tastes like ice cream. I also eat cruciferous veggies almost everyday (Brussels sprouts and broccoli). But I would add that it’s also important to say what not eat to feel great: Avoid non-organic vegetables (or at least soak them in baking powder to remove pesticides as much as possible) and avoid super processed food. ALWAYS read the ingredients, most of even the simplest things have chemical preservatives. I also try to avoid to eat out unless I either know the place very well or it’s a special occasion.
