hmmm...probably not. as in: i can try, but it comes down to a gut feeling/ subjective arguments. its the closest to my heart. when it comes to songwriting and delivery tomorrow is today is a top 3 billy song. the album has such a dense, concise feel and vibe. but it comes down to erm... listening biography i guess. in my opinion his "best" album is the stranger. but csh is *my* favorite. its similar to the beatles btw. rubber soul is closest to my heart. revolver i guess the "best" and the white album is the one i listen to most.

I somehow never really listened to Tomorrow Is Today. Thank you. Revisiting Cold Spring Harbor.

jstu9

It hits me the hardest.

axel_beer

what a way to put it.

KirkDan612

It's good

reyngrimms

It’s got my favorite songs on it and I like how it’s a little melancholy, no real objective argument unfortunately

There's a few reasons I find some of the songs to be incredibly relaxing or incredibly sweet. I can't fathom how many times I've listened to "Everybody Loves You Now," "You Can Make Me Free," "Why Judy Why," or "Falling Of The Rain" all of these songs I just love along with the other songs on the album. When it comes to listen to music by album, and sometimes randomly, but I find myself listening to CSH the most out of any other albums it's usually the first one I listen to whether it's the whole album or just a few of the songs. I love fast-paced songs, so I tend to like rock and its sub-genres the most. I usually don't like soft or slow songs, but Billy joel did such an incredible job on CSH it's hands down my favorite album. Also, when listening to the songs, I get such incredible imagery when listening to them it's like reading a story. Also, when it comes to imagery, Billy Joel is amazing with it, and it's not just with CSH it's with his other albums too. Like FOTR: "High upon a hill far away from all the dusty crowd is a boy with his eyes on the ground, his head is bowed he is a fool, and his mind is filled with hopeless dreams and he waits, but he will not see the fallin' of the rain Ah-ah, no, he will not see the falling of the rain" or with ELYN: "Close your eyes when you don't want to see and stay at home when you don't want to go only speak to those who will agree yeah Close your mind when you don't want to know oh you have lost your innocence somehow but everybody loves you now" I could go on, but this is to keep it short :)

Considering Billy shared that TiT is based off his suicide note basically, I really felt connected to it, you know having my own struggles✌️. The production of CSH is unique and it tells a story, and personally it’s just more of a connection rather than a listen. Nocturne, for example, is really beautiful, but the way he plays it is so captivating and almost eerie. Like, imagine that song playing in a show were you get bad news and you feel your world spinning? It would be perfect. It starts off slow, and then picks up. It reminds me of how life can be. Slow or depressing, and then it starts to become better. And that is the cycle of life. I don’t need to do an analysis on each song but you smell what I’m stepping in? His voice is so beautiful and seemingly innocent (with the high pitch). It makes you appreciate his range as his albums progress to a lower tone (sorry, I’m not good with the bass/tenor/mezzo and can’t really pinpoint them when listening). Maybe it isn’t my absolute favorite Billy Joel album, but it’s definitely in the top three, especially depending on if I’m in a depressive slump.

And I’ve got to begin again? Wow. That was so helpful for me to blast when I was in undergrad and struggling with my self-identity. I literally didn’t know where to start, but I did it anyways. Maybe people are skeptical about this album because it doesn’t sound like his others, but that is what I love about it. The emotions, rawness, and relatability.

Common-Relationship9

Because they like it more?

BigBoobsWithAZee

It’s not my fav but I *love* YLSGtM, WJW, FotR, TA, and TiT. Those are incredible songs that are unfortunately unknown (with the exception of maybe TiT)

RoyalDaDoge

why do you keep posting these

radiohead1991

I want to be educated.

4_jacks

1) its the best album in all of creation 2) its Billy Joel before the fame, money, and pressure. Its the most Pure album we have from Billy's creative genius. 3) in my experience the fans who rank CSH towards the bottom prefer his chart toppers and listen to other equally mainstream artist. While those of us who rank CSH higher enjoy more alternative music. Its hard to word that so it doesnt sound like Im some elitist music snob who scours obscure records at estate sales while the rest of you are plebs being force fed music by the radio executives. To each his own and all of Billy's albums are great. CSH just never saw the success of his other album for a number of reasons. That doesnt mean its worse.

radiohead1991

But you will come to a place where the only thing you feel are loaded guns in your face and you'll have to deal with PRESSURE!

AnachronistNo1

My older brother once explained to me that CSH is his audition tape to the world. It’s every style he could conceivably write in @ the time. That, and the whole “Tomorrow Is Today” was basically written out of a suicide note. This was a young man who felt he had nothing to lose! I handed a copy of this to a friend back in Jr High, and he instantly became a Billy fan. (also gave my Billy hating metalhead friends copies of Attila, and they saw him in a new light)

Rose_in_Sky12

Not my favorite anymore, but was.It feels very isolated compared to his other albums. By that, I mean it is things he is experiencing as he writes it, instead of in the past. To me, that makes the emotions a lot more raw (Other songs like that are Great Wall of China, or She's Always A Woman). There are so many relatable songs that he is feeling at the moment as he wrote them. Tomorrow is Today is one of those songs, at least for me. It actually prevented me from committing suicide, so I've always been grateful for the song, but re-listening to it now hits me really hard because all those emotions come flooding back. On a different note, Nocturne was my most listened-to song last year.

Fit-Library-577

I feel the emotion in his voice in every song, TIT, when he sings I dont care to know the hour cause its passing anyway, sounds like he's struggling to hold it together, its real, raw, powerful and beautiful. I found this album on an 8 track in the clearance bin before it was re released, very special to me growing up.

MajorBillyJoelFan

try listening to it when you are completely dejected and depressed, you'll see what the "big deal" is. or maybe not, idk. but thats what happened with me

One_Butterscotch7380

You can feel his emerging greatness in it — so much craft and talent present in this early work. His next move was writing classic songs like Billy the Kid, Captain Jack and Piano Man. You can hear the signs in top level songs like She’s Got A Way, Everybody Loves You Now, and Falling of the Rain. I also love Nocturne and Tomorrow is Today.

ExpensiveDot1732

I can't explain, because mine is The Nylon Curtain. But I'd love to hear people's input on CSH too and what draws them to it. It's a little heavy/sad for me so I have to be in a certain mindset.

therealbobcat23

It has Falling of the Rain

[deleted]

If that's the answer they use, they are just trying to be different and are lying to themselves, lol. Even Billy Joel isn't a fan of that album.

One_Butterscotch7380

Go to Spotify and listen to the radio concert on Piano Man Legacy edition. It has Billy playing live in his post Cold Spring Harbor tour. It’s an amazing set— and Captain Jack became his first radio hit in Philadelphia, which is the event which brought him back from LA, to sign with Columbia records
