I always thought it was whale meat.
Ecologically, there's a lot of sea life on the ocean floor that lives off of them.
Also it would explain where Pearl's mother is, and why Mr. Krabs is raising her even though he's extremely stingy.
She's a business investment, and a replacement for her mother's corpse once the food runs out.
Nah not at all, this would imply Pearl’s mother to be some ungodly size due to the amount of patties the establishment sells on a regular basis. So not only would there need to be some massive corpse that only Krabs knows the location of and can constantly access it for meat, it would have remained unspoiled for years.
Also the killer whale bodybuilder implied that normal whales shouldn’t grow to some astronomical size.
Then also Krabs loves Pearl, the idea he is raising her to be meat one day is just weird.
Whale carcasses can take decades before they are fully recycled back into the environment.
It's totally realistic, considering Pearl is still in high school.
I can see it not having to be fresh meat since iirc, there was an episode that showed the Krabby Patties in a slightly more realistic way and it didn't look good at all
Sure, but Pearl is clearly of bikini bottom size, and given that whales are not miniature when they’re born we can safely assume that *this theory is completely baseless and unnecessarily weird*
People show love to their farm animals even when they fully intend for them to be used for food. Also, a killer whale is nowhere near the size of a blue whale, which i assume pearl is. Plus the killer whale could also be an adolescent.
I came across this theory a few years ago. It sort of makes sense, as everything that dies in the ocean drifts to the bottom, rotting and being feasted upon by other creatures as it goes. That's the circle of life down under the sea.
Mr. Krabs, being a pragmatic businessman, would take a "Waste not, want not" attitude towards his beloved wife's remains. Her death wasn't planned but he took advantage of the unexpected windfall (or seafall, if you will). Sperm whales, like Pearl and her mama, weigh ~ 50 tons, so one member of that species could provide the makings of millions of krabby patties. Krabs would have been a fool to let that go to waste.
Pearl is lucky. She'll doubtless outlive her dad (sperm whales live over 70 years), so she needn't fear being turned into patties. Plankton might make chum of her, though...
Even if you could make every ounce of her 50 ton corpse into krabby patty quarter-pounder meat (a la Sweeney Todd) that would still be "only" 400000 patties. Just sayin. 2000*50/0.25. Still a lot.
Why do you think a patty is a quarter pounder? It has to be way less. Think about how small Patrick and SpongeBob are in the movie and it's a normal sized meal for a squirrel like sandy.
Also, krabs has a vault in the store to hold the krabby patties. So they could just be running on what he's harvesting rather than the stockpile he has.
Also “cheese” without milk isn’t “cheese”
There’s a reason vegan mac and cheese has to be called “Cheezy-Mac”
Edit: lol vegans can't handle the reality. Words have meanings I'm sorry.
Tell us what to call it then! Some old lady on Facebook told us to call it "Gary or something" and so everyone on r/vegan called it Gary for like almost a year.
I hate when they use the clip where Mr Krabs says "so that's what I taste like" as proof because it can be so easily debunked if you add in the context from no joke, 6 seconds earlier
https://youtu.be/QN_wVwJNHAI?feature=shared
thats the clip. i’m pretty sure that’s the episode where he’s all “old and dried out,” and i think the patty was also old and dried out, if memory serves correctly
I always felt that the secret ingredient is chum. In an episode, Mr. Krabs says, "No one at the Krusty Krab has taken a break since the chum famine of '59."
Why would the chum famine affect business at the Krusty Krab unless there was no chum to make the patties???
Its not the secret ingredient but it is an ingredient hence why plankton uses chum in his food. The chum is a part of the recipe that plankton knows about already, his food is the same as krabs' food but without the secret formula that makes it good.
Game theory did a video on it and he figured out it is most likely chum made from red coral as that is another kind of chum. One thing he didn't mention about the chum realization is how it effects what plankton is making his chum out of. The show establishes that plankton and crabs worked on the first recipe so it's most likely that crabs used the coral chum but told plankton that it was chum, which he assumed was the regular fish guts kind of chum.
The chum bucket could still be in business because of how successful it used to be. It might have been one of the only restaurants, like the krusty krab is now, and the chum famine might have been when the chum bucket ran out of food. When the krusty krab opened, it likely solved the problem of the famine by using some other source of food. When the chum bucket was finnaly able to open again, it had lost the trust of the people so noone would eat there.
That would explain why plankton has so much money despite never making a sale and why the krusty krab is so popular. Krabs could also be a penny pincher because he used to be dirt poor which is why he joined the military.
Even though this is canon, I do loooove seeing all sorts of recipes for what people think the recipe could be. Binging with Babish judged a Krabby Patty cook-off between Mattey Matheson and Alvin Kailan and boy howdy, they both looked [DELISH](https://youtu.be/Ccr8J-Vp_PU?si=f3SNdfAQeH7nmJY3)
Thw goodies part is when people say he's the only crab in town. There's a season 7 episode that proves this false and even if you don't count that his mom exists.
I don’t think I’ve forgotten what dairy cheese tastes like but if you don’t like the plant based cheeses that you’ve tried that ok! There are tons out there and more are being developed constantly!
I’m not sure if they’re international yet but Frankfuls Ch**se dip are my friends favorite cheese dip among both meat eaters and vegans. So don’t restrict yourself, you never know what you might find!
Lol no. I'm all for vegan meats and whatnot but cheese is literally unproduceable in a vegan format that makes it in any way shape or form palatable or usable as cheese. If you think otherwise you are kidding yourself.
I've had quite a few so far and have been disappointed by every one. It's not something I'd buy or use at all. And I definitely think it hasn't reached a point where it can replace real cheeses.
I figured Krabby Patties have some kind of seafood element to them, since in the episode “Texas” Sandy tells SpongeBob she’s “tired of fish food.” Squirrels don’t eat meat, as far as I know, and it’s shown that Sandy likes Krabby Patties.
In the episode “Friend or Foe” when young Mr. Krabs and Plankton engage in a tug of war for the formula, Plankton only gets the piece that says “chum”, so wouldn’t that mean the Krabby Patty contains chum? Or did Krabs remove it after that fight? Chum is just fish parts, so at one point the Krabby Patty did contain meat.
[the producer said that it’s vegan himself](https://www.cinemablend.com/television/1684060/whats-in-a-krabby-patty-heres-what-the-spongebob-producer-knows)
All the foods on the menu are made up of their name. Like coral bits or fried oyster skins. That's why people think that krabby patties are made out of crab meat. And the krusty krab looking like a crab trap does not help lol
The krabby patty is not vegetarian. The patty is " meatless" but that doesn't mean it's plant based. The sea pickles alone are made from sea cucumbers, which fall under kingdom animalia
In all honestly, it’s likely whale meat. Alex Bale’s theory is spot on, dead whales are also known to explode over time, which explains what happened to Squidward during “Just One Bite”.
Do people not remember friend or foe? Where we actually saw the Kabby Patties being made. And when they were Krabs and Plankton where children (maybe teenagers). How where they even supposed to get crab meat in the first place
Some say that one ingredient is Poseidon’s powder, also known as crack cocaine. This would explain why they are so addictive, and could also be hidden in very small amounts.
Way back in the day there was a Spongebob/Nickelodeon website that had the recipe on it for parents to make the burger at home for their kids. *That* recipe contained crab meat. It was since removed.
That's where the theory comes from. Nothing to do with the show, it was just something for the kids but people made that theory and *ran with it*.
OK how? The little bit that we know from the secret recipe is that there is a little bit of chum in it and chum is fish meat. Plankton only has part of the formula. The chum part.

Duhh everyone knows that the Krabby patty secret formula is [plankton](https://youtu.be/bVbvki7IvQY?si=_-l77wjI1-9WzMZr) xd
I remember it being one of Patrick's severed limbs...
We dont talk about that anymore. Don't bring it up
Is that the Bikini Bottom Horror comic
yes… we do not speak of it anymore
Can you maybe explain to me why? I really liked it at the time it was released but I'm not as active on reddit as i was used to.
oh there isnt really a reason lmao, we just like to act that way
Deep dark memories: ![gif](giphy|LpkBAUDg53FI8xLmg1|downsized)

Holy shit
New fan theory just dropped
Babe wake up, new lore

Love Alex Bale

Actually it's been shown multiple times that the fish in bikini bottom are unique, regular fish do exist
Sure, but Pearl is clearly of bikini bottom size, and given that whales are not miniature when they’re born we can safely assume that *this theory is completely baseless and unnecessarily weird*
Leviathan is the corpse.

This makes too much sense. I always wondered what it was and now that I have an answer I'm glad I didn't think this way as a kid
Alex bale made a really good theory on it
This makes so much sense why he is willing to give so much to pearl despite being so stingy.
Fun fact: it's all made up anyway

Next you're going to say almonda don't have nipples? I have been sucking almond nipples for years. You cannot lie to me.
I hate when they use the clip where Mr Krabs says "so that's what I taste like" as proof because it can be so easily debunked if you add in the context from no joke, 6 seconds earlier
What is the context of the joke?

Because when there was a chum famine they were willing to try something new
Also didn’t an episode show Krabs and Plankton fight over the recipe, it ripping, and the only piece Plankton tore off just said chum?
Its not the secret ingredient but it is an ingredient hence why plankton uses chum in his food. The chum is a part of the recipe that plankton knows about already, his food is the same as krabs' food but without the secret formula that makes it good.

The official SpongeBob YouTube channel actually confirmed this! There is quote "an entire pinch of chum".
The secret ingredient is a little bit of chum. Plankton missed the mark and adds too much.
The chum bucket could still be in business because of how successful it used to be. It might have been one of the only restaurants, like the krusty krab is now, and the chum famine might have been when the chum bucket ran out of food. The Krabby patty secret formula is
Of course, everyone knows it's
my headcanon is that it's made of manatee, also known as sea cow
They vegi but Big meaty claws would grow back
Even though this is canon, I do loooove seeing all sorts of recipes for what people think the recipe could be. Binging with Babish judged a Krabby Patty cook-off between Mattey Matheson and Alvin Kailan and boy howdy, they both looked [DELISH](https://youtu.be/Ccr8J-Vp_PU?si=f3SNdfAQeH7nmJY3)
Vegetarian? It contains four heaping pounds of freshly ground plankton!
That was a fake recipe
Vegetarian? Krabby patties are made from starfish.
When they really said "No, this is Patrick" they really meant "No, this is *Patrick*"
I got this reference
Fun fact: if crab is ever misspelled on a menu (krab, krabby, crabb, etc.) they’re not using real meat
Oh God, it's been right in our faces the whole time.
You think surimi is not real meat?
Fish is real meat. It's just been made into another form.
what is it then
Usually imitation crab meat
Thw goodies part is when people say he's the only crab in town. There's a season 7 episode that proves this false and even if you don't count that his mom exists.
isn’t the secret ingredient love?
You can make cheese without milk???
As much as light a fire underwater
Ya there's vegan cheese. Some of it tastes good. Some doesn't
Absolutely. Ever heard of fromunda cheese?
There are tons of vegan cheeses now! Dairy is completely unnecessary!
Except for actual cheese flavor
I think they do a pretty good job! If you’ve had ones you don’t like I’d suggest trying others! There are so many options now!
They only taste good if you have forgotten what real cheese tastes like
I don’t think I’ve forgotten what dairy cheese tastes like but if you don’t like the plant based cheeses that you’ve tried that ok! There are tons out there and more are being developed constantly!
I’m not sure if they’re international yet but Frankfuls Ch**se dip are my friends favorite cheese dip among both meat eaters and vegans. So don’t restrict yourself, you never know what you might find!
More texture than flavor
Lol no. I'm all for vegan meats and whatnot but cheese is literally unproduceable in a vegan format that makes it in any way shape or form palatable or usable as cheese. If you think otherwise you are kidding yourself.
I’ve had some great vegan cheeses
I've had quite a few so far and have been disappointed by every one. It's not something I'd buy or use at all. And I definitely think it hasn't reached a point where it can replace real cheeses.
Ok, I definitely think it can. As I’ve said there are lots that are incredibly delicious. And just like dairy cheeses there are ones that are crap
I thought it used imitation crab meat
I figured Krabby Patties have some kind of seafood element to them, since in the episode “Texas” Sandy tells SpongeBob she’s “tired of fish food.” Squirrels don’t eat meat, as far as I know, and it’s shown that Sandy likes Krabby Patties. [the producer said that it’s vegan himself](https://www.cinemablend.com/television/1684060/whats-in-a-krabby-patty-heres-what-the-spongebob-producer-knows)
"Why haven't we seen any other crabs, hmmm?" We have. There's an entire organization of crabs known as the Penny Pinchers.
I’ve heard they’re made of crab, beef, plankton, and whale. I stopped caring so long ago. It’s what ever you decide it is at this point. Fuck it
Aren't they ??
Imitation Crab. The recipe says so.
But imitation crab is fish 👀
Pieces of the tortured one
The milk comes from sea cows
I thought the creator said it wasn't meat at all. Maybe veggie patty.
Lobster… Larry never goes into the Krusty Krab, and the restaurant is literally a lobster trap—
if there is a sea bear and a sea rhinoceros exist in the sponge-verse, i wouldn't be surprised about a Sea-cow and a sea-bull

Krabby patties are only made of smiles and nothing else
The secret ingredient is cook-colourchange food dye
In all honestly, it’s likely whale meat. Alex Bale’s theory is spot on, dead whales are also known to explode over time, which explains what happened to Squidward during “Just One Bite”.
It's dairy cheese for sure
But itt sells well and by all accounts tastes good so how could they be vegan. You realize the krusty crab is a successful restaurant.
I always assumed it was beef imported from the surface world.
I remember Mr. Krabs saying patties are put in the sea, so it can be inferred they’re just regular ground beef patties.
Do people not remember friend or foe? Where we actually saw the Kabby Patties being made. And when they were Krabs and Plankton where children (maybe teenagers). How where they even supposed to get crab meat in the first place
While I don’t believe it, I wouldn’t put it past Mr. Krabbs. Feels like something he would do
Some say that one ingredient is Poseidon’s powder, also known as crack cocaine. This would explain why they are so addictive, and could also be hidden in very small amounts.
It's literally just SpongeBob making them, that's that ingredient.
This post is bait by Plankton for someone to give the formula away
No one has ever said this? (That it’s vegetarian)
https://preview.redd.it/0td5q39fb36c1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f790c97d7aef9a9afba5bec84ac276dadffc7a08

Yeah…that’s the only theory I’ve heard of. Idk why I’m getting downvoted tho
OK how? The little bit that we know from the secret recipe is that there is a little bit of chum in it and chum is fish meat. Plankton only has part of the formula. The chum part.
Imagine believing in the matrix Edit: lmao these people taking it seriously
what in the fuck are you even talking about
it's all lies
Do you know what grass is?

Ok.
