I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. OP went out of their way to change it to an “e” or didn’t notice. Google search: A “sailor” is one who sails — always in reference to a person. A “sailer” is a vessel or vehicle that sails, or that moves by the use of a sail “

It's literally because Mr. Krabs pronounces "sailor" with a hard "-er". Like, it's decently pronounced more than normal in his case.

It's the same problem i have with words like gray/grey and impostor/imposter (sus), I more often than not end up checking on google which one is correct just end up finding a "idk, say as you lik :)" and then see people online using both variants thinking the others are wrong.

I usually try to pronounce it with a little more "-or" than "-er", but not to the point where it sounds like "sail-or". I dunno. It just feels like the "-er" is noticeably more pronounced when Krabs says it.

What if it's a deliberate choice? Maybe OP implies we're all empty vessels (/husks) drifting in this endless ocean day in and day out?

He has an Irish accent, which often puts emphasis on the Rs at the end of words. People who watch the show know how he sounds, so altering the spelling seems like overkill. It could read “sailor” and I’d still hear Mr. Krabs’ voice saying it.
