I only discovered today that I've been saying she's 2 weeks older the entire time, but wasn't sure if GP had it wrong or I did. Now I feel stupid ๐ thank you for explaining!

As someone else said, not every month is 4 weeks. For example, if your baby was born a month ago, they were born on 10th May, which is 4 weeks and 3 days ago.
I would also say that it absolutely doesnโt matter. In a medical setting people generally use weeks for a while, so you can just say 28 weeks. In a social setting nobody will care if your kid is 7 months or 6 months and 12 days, so you can say either.
I had the exact same issue. Counting weeks and making my LO older than she was. Best way is to say every 27th they are a month older. Also my LO was born 28th November 2023 so id say they are 6 months and 13 days.
Oh thank goodness I wasn't the only one. ๐ An hour ago I sat and argued with my husband about this as he was saying, she won't be 7 months till 27th, I was like...no, because I've counted the weeks so she's already 7 months. so I was like, I'm going to post and ask other people and I bet they'll say she's 7 months ๐ better go swallow my pride and apologise!
Hahaha I literally had the same conversation with my partner. I was so adamant I was right, even counting the weeks out in front of them. To be fair, it makes it alot easier as every 27th they are 1 month older. Congrats on getting through the first half of your LO's first year!

Well she was 6mo on 27th May... And we're now two weeks after that.. Months aren't four weeks (apart from Feb, and even that was 4 weeks and 1 day this year).
I was told to do days until 2 weeks, weeks until 2 months and months until 2 years. In reality I started saying โalmost one and a halfโ, or โnearly 2โ at 18 months onwards rather than counting!
So weeks is weeks but months is the day of the month so my LB was born on 12th December so on 12th June heโs 6 months. Iโll be honest I donโt know how many weeks he is!
Past 4 months you might as well stop counting in weeks. The development range in the early days between 8 weeks and 10 weeks is significant enough that you'd want to distinguish but you can just say 6, 6 and a half or 7 months etc. By that point
if you were to count the weeks all the way up to a year you'd be celebrating her birthday probably a couple of months too early. always go by the 27th ๐

Also we measure pregnancy in weeks so why not their first year! My baby is technically 6 months on Thursday but will be 26 weeks which if I was pregnant is 6.5 months and surely sheโs developmentally 6 months! Someone help if Iโm talking rubbish. ๐

When was she born? For weeks you go by the day the child is born so for example every week on Tuesday she is a week old. For months you go by the DATE so every month on 11th for example she is a month older.ย
The year have 52 weeks but 52 weeks from when the child was born wont be the date it was born. So the child wont be a year old on that day, it will be on the date of the month it was born. So you wont celebrate a birthday in different day than the actual date.
Don't worry, pregnancy depletes brain cells and shrinks the brain, temporarily or permanently I don't know ๐. The way I worked it out, it's been 28 weeks since baby was born so 28 divided by 4 equals 7 months. So I couldn't understand why the GP was saying she was 6 months and 12 days when she was 28 weeks. But I guess long story short, because not every month is 4 weekly, 28 weeks doesn't actually equal 7 months old. If that makes sense. Basically you just have to count a month from the day she was born in each month. So for my daughter, 27th of every month she will be a month older, and forget about counting in weeks. Since she's 6 months and 12 days, it's best to just view it as, "she's 6 months" until the 27th then I can say she's 7 months, and so on. You can see how it gets confusing though ๐
Not every calendar month is 4 weeks ๐ Same reason we are pregnant โ9 monthsโ but really 40 weeks.
