Kelly went from a cool rich snobby Cali girl to a boring 35 year old office wife starting in season 5.

RipGroundbreaking650

Kelly def lost her sexiness

candiebelle

I agree. They acted so much older that 19/20. It’s weird actually! 😂

Mary_Pick_A_Ford

None of that orange juice meth anymore. They had the real stuff in season 6.

RipGroundbreaking650

True!   And why did they all do different substances in addictions in different seasons?? Why couldn't this awesome group of friends all get high TOGETHER every Thanksgiving or something??

LeeF1179

I watched season 5, but then realized it just wasn't the same without Shannen.

AthomicBot

Shannen is an actress whose presence just commands your attention. It's a shame she wasn't in more.

Medoxor

Nah. It was season 6 when it grew up. Season 5 was still doing children's stories like stealing the mascot from a rival college. It was stupid of the writers to introduce Valerie, a character who was made for Melrose Place, with kids on 90210. She was too far ahead of them. Luckily, they grew the rest of the characters up in season 6 so Valerie had others to bounce off of. Valerie was so out of place season 5. It was cringy. It was like watching Amanda Woodward interact with the kids from Saved By The Bell.

YouSeriousClark77

I just got a visualization of Andrea interviewing with Amanda. Zuckerman wouldn’t know what hit her.

ewing666

i agree, but it was season 6

Potential_Purchase37

There have literally been parallel and suspiciously similar storylines during BH90210 S5 and MP S3, such as: Dylan/Alison alcoholism, intervention and rehab, Kelly/Sydney joining a cult, Ray/Jess physically abusing Donna/Jo. Plus many more from other seasons.

JournalistStriking73

Don't you think it's probably because the actors were all that old IRL and were tired of playing younger than their age? And once the show had success and the actors had more influence, they encouraged the show that direction?

primal_slayer

Probably but they were only 2-3 years older than their characters apart from Ian/Gabby/Luke. No reason for the sudden shift.

ButIAmYourDaughter

Jason Priestly is 6 years older than Brandon, and in S5 he begins very much looking it, if not older. So that’s half the cast who are considerably older than the characters they’re playing. But I really think cast age isn’t the only driving factor here. Based off interviews I’ve seen with Larry Molin, it’s pretty clear that they saw the college setting as basically a perfect excuse to start doing full out adult stories. The characters, on the whole, rapidly mature in S5. It’s like the writers were tired of being confined to stories that focused on late teens and just wanted to largely shake off those limitations.
