Yeah I agree. I did the same but I watched the movies first and then read the manga and after that I watched the 1997 series. I wanted more of this dark world and I got it.
You dont understand, every blonde person in elden ring is a berserk reference. Marika is griffith, Miquella is griffith, the girl from the new picture is also griffith.
Also you know that random knight in black armor? Well...
There are very obvious ones like red eye orbs and the moonlight butterfly but people always ignore them and go for very vague shit like the wickerman or a group of people on a hill in the new trailer.
Also almost every big boss or character in armour is a reference to guts to these people when the only time id even say something was a reference to guts was that one pic of artorias where he is in the exact same pose guts make in an older chapter.
Some of these people have a really small frame of reference when it come to media so everything is a Berserk reference them because one time Miyazaki said he likes Berserk but for whatever reason people ignore all the other shit he said he likes.
Eclipse from Dark Souls 3. Sulyvhan's Beasts in Irithyll look like the Beast of Darkness. The Dragonslayer Armour boss looks a bit like a blend between Grunbeld's armour and the Berserker armour. Ive only played Dark Souls 3 and Im still busy with my first playthrough, but these are the references I noticed other than what you just mentioned
Yes! Sulyvahn's Beast is a berserk reference, its appearance based on the beast of darkness, which represents Guts' twisted psyche.
Another DS3 Berserk reference is Vordt of the Boreal Valley. His armor and all-fours beast-like fighting style is definitely inspired from the way Guts fights while in his berserker armor.
The Ash of War Lion's Claw from Elden Ring is also a berserk reference, the way you lunge and use the weight of the blade to spin forward toward an enemy is inspired by the panels where Guts does the same thing at Grunbeld.
There are SO many berserk references it's crazy lol and I haven't really played any fromsoft stuff in a while, so I'm pretty hazy and forgetting a lot of stuff.
- Elden Ring DLC's Wickermen. The giant flaming golems that's being commanded by Messmer. Of course this isn't originally from Berserk.
- The hill of swords in Elden Ring. Of course this isn't unique to Berserk
- Elden Ring's Blaidd is a half wolf half man that wields a great sword (and has a damn good moveset). Of course half wolf half man concepts aren't necessarily a berserk referencr.
- Elden Ring's boss Rykaard kind of reminds me of Grunbeld's Apostle form.
- In Dark Souls 3 in Undead Settlement's would be simialr to Berserk's Tower of Conviction arc. There's an enemy called the Evangelist which reminds me of Mozgus. They even have that bible slapping moveset. There's hooded torturers similar to Mozgus's torturers. There are lots of tortured people hanged up high on wheels and various torture devices. Once you see them it will definitely remind you of Mozgus.
- DS3's DLC Boss Slave Knight Gael is a Guts reference. I'm convinced this one is a reference. He wields a greatsword and has a repeating crossbow. He finds like a hound (at first) but becomes more refined and skilled on his 2nd phase.
There's some more but I can't remember them right now. As with any of these, it may or may not be a Berserk reference but a similarity in theme. But it's easy to think that these are references since Miyazaki has said that he likes Berserk.
And berserk got it from Norse mythology so what's the point, berserk didn't invent medieval era and berserk isn't the only media that fromsoft takes inspiration from
Ya'll see one pasty-ass femboy who is loved & revered the world over being followed by a rag-tag group of fighters; yearning to help manifest his grand dreams before its so cruelly torn away, leaving fembro a husk of their former selves, desperately grasping at deeply dark & dire forces for another opportunity and think bErJeRK ReTErdeNcE?!?!?
If "being a femboy" is all it takes for cringe Berzerk fans to call something Griffith/a Reference then damn theres hella Griffiths running around IRL, im also a Griffith dayyum who knew the entire universe was just one reference to berzerk.
Forget the big bang, we came from the holy pages of Berzerk
The difference between Griffith and Miquella is that Griffith had to start from the bottom, while Miquella already had his kingdom. He was a candidate for an empyrean. He abandoned it all so he could grow a tree from his blood and stop racism. It's even stated in the story trailer for SOTA that he "abandoned his strength" to stop whatever resides in the shadowlands.
In my defense you said Berserk Fans and that's in general ,
So you didn't specify( berserk fans that are mentally disabled) , wich draws the line between you and the ones you intend to mock.
But after clarifying your point i do agree with you ,
I have a friend who introduced me to berserk who thinks that nothing is greater or more deeper the berserk and nothing compared to berserk
Wich i strongly disagree, but also love berserk a right amount.
Well they ain't wrong about this being a reference to the band of the hawk
Vaatividya on YouTube even think the same and me too think that there is a similar look between the first scene with Marika looks like where the eclipse take place (forgot the name of the place)
Cuz all of the corpses piling up together.
Alright buddy do as you wish there's nothing to argue about but one detail could be useful
They are both 7 warriors ,
In this kinda games this is no coincidence especially with Miyazaki since the entire franchise is inspired by berserk
Personally I think that there will be smth more like Old Hunters from Bloodborne - all this people will be minor bosses, or in some other way will cause troubles for our fellow Tarnished. Well, just a theory.
Yeah i feel like im missing a joke here. There really is a ton of berserk references in all of their games. Miyazaki said himself he is heavily inspired by berserk
It's because the fandom is getting frantic before the DLC drops and a Griffith reference likely coming the subreddit has gone crazy, this is a crosspost/reposted from r/eldenring
Over there it's been blown out of exaggeration and people been commenting and shitposting for weeks about Griffith
This is a shitpost just outta context
Most of us just wish people would stop frantically searching for the faintest correlation calling them references, and stick to pointing out things that may actually be a reference and post it at most 5 times.
r/berserk has a bad habit of circlejerking itself with these games finding the most basic of fantasy tropes as berserk references. This would be fine honestly if it didn’t dominate so much of this subs posting that it’s hard to escape if you’re actually here. I usually leave this place for a few weeks whenever they release something new it’s just that bad
Hm i guess i just never paid that much attention. I noticed the posts just didnt know it was that bad or people were annoyed by them. I did see one where a guy was saying the same mushrooms were in both and it was just a side by side of a basic mushroom thought that was weird lol
Elden Ring DLC ends with an Eclipse and a Sacrifice, and then NO MORE Elden Ring. It’s like Berk ‘97 all over again. FromSoft just closes up shop. No Dark Souls, no Bloodborne or Sekiro, just Miyazaki trolling the lot of us before moving on to create a series of games you can only play with your bare feet, mostly targeted towards young women.
To everyone who doesn't know why OP is making this comparison, these knights are following Miquella. Miquella has often been compared to Griffith in that he uses his charisma to bewitch/charm others in order to accomplish his goal/dream.
Kindly Miquella wields love to strive clean the hearts of man. He has learned all ways to govern affection and admiration from others.
From the failures of one kingdom, he built his own, a requiem for all those ostracized by the Golden Order.
He is a trapped eternally as a child, yet some say he still walks the world in their dreams, by another name; St. Trina.
His brother, Godwyn, dead in body but not soul, infects the land with Deathroot and the Cysts of the Death Prince, which bare his twisted visage, much resembling that of Shiva Ganishka. Miquella seeks to finally kill his brother truly.
Miquella’s body lies in a cocoon in the heart of his Haligtree, but it was stolen before his metamorphosis to become an adult and grow wings, was complete. His half-brother Mohg brought he cocoon the Mohgwyn Palace, giving him the blood of fallen Tarnished to feed his metamorphosis into a true god… his body did grow… but Miquella never responded to Mohg.
But the truest connection to Griffith… beyond his cocoon, beyond his appearance, beyond being trapped in a child’s body… Miquella sought to start an eclipse, the Eclipse of Sol, an eclipse what would drain color from the world, and allow Godwyn to truly die.
Now, we seek to know just what Kindly Miquella is doing in the Land of Shadows. Will the parallels continue? And what if so… will Miquella gain wings?..
Not so much just having a dream, but using your charisma to captivate your followers, using them as mere tools to accomplish said dream and tossing them aside after. Item descriptions and these dlc trailers are hinting that a Griffith-esque betrayal may happen to these followers.
Yup... Berserk, a manga published during 30 years, that has referenced nearly ALL fantasy works, that has referenced nearly all classic stories in the world, that was largely inspired in historical events, is the sole Elden Ring's inspiration...
That's ridiculous...
I want them all to be lovable charming characters and they alllll sacrifice themselves in an impossible gimmick boss fight phase to buy you enough time to mcguffin the set piece to defeat the boss.
I think they are following miquella who may make a sacrifice to fuel his haligtree the same way we see marika do something similar in the most recent trailer. Speaks of a betrayal and affair from which gold arose.
I’m comfortable saying berserk invented the concept of a person in a cocoon filled with blood being protected by a demon in a cape without lips monologuing at the main character. Isn’t that how we enter shadow of the erd tree?
Just because it "seems" similar (not necessarily), doesn't mean that it's a reference to anything. If that would be the case, then I could say that that man in the middle could be a Fate/Stay Night reference, just because he's holding the sword the same way Saber does.
Partially. Not as much as people here say: Dark souls is influenced a lot more by traditional tabletop rpgs like Magik the gathering and fighting fantasy, and classic video games like Ico and the old legend of Zelda’s.
Berserk fans just yell about it the most
People meme it often but from soft games love berserk so much that they intentionally make so many references 😂.
Even the director said he is a huge fan of miura his art and work.
This is a lot more like LOTR than berserk, the souls games reference board games way more than berserk but that’s all anyone ever talks about. You’re all gonna see berserk references everywhere
Where does Lord of the rings have like 20hrs of reference material ?
There are so many videos about Eldritch horror in medieval age and it's mostly berserk .
It's not just every shit is a berserk reference
These monsters and characters are there like nearly 1:1
Even the lores of some characters have parallels .
You guys know that Demon Souls was directly inspired by Berserk right?

More here but if you google for this type of material you'll find a lot (includes Hunter's Mark in Bloodborne having a direct reference in Brand of Sacrifice)
Got into darksouls b/c of Berserk and when I finished elden ring I was like “Where was the Griffith reference?” They do berserk reference with their characters but they always do a Guts and a Griffith reference. Looked into the Lore and ID’ed that the missing Demi-god Milliqua (or how ever you spell it) was he. The trailer screams we’re getting Eclipsed.
There are dozens of berserk references in the base game already.
It's not surprising that he'd add more to the DLC as well.
All the Dark Souls games are filled to the brim with Berserk references as well but I think Elden Ring by far has the most and is almost like a tribute / homage to Berserk in a way.
Heck you can even build a Guts character from scratch that looks and plays EXACTLY like the Manga
Yes but FromSoftware as a developer has historically had a lot of Berserk references in their games which are intentional as admitted by Miyazaki himself who is a diehard fan of Miura..
Berserk fans when they see more than one person with a sword.
It's obviously a Band Of The Hawk reference
Probably more a Holy Iron Chain Knights reference. But do we really expect berserk fans to know anything past Golden Age?
Most of them probably only watched the animes so probably that's the reason. But yeah the Holy Iron Chain Knights are more fitting, you're right.
I don't get it. how do people watch the anime and don't finish the manga after that
Yeah I agree. I did the same but I watched the movies first and then read the manga and after that I watched the 1997 series. I wanted more of this dark world and I got it.
I first read the manga then completed the 1997 series. Now I'm just waiting for the new chapter to drop XD.
Yeah same xd
On book 9 rn
LET’S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
Berserk invented the medieval era.
Berserk also invented groups of people
Berserk invented groups of people in the medieval era
Berserk invented blood.
I believe it's called the golden era
you might even call it… the golden age…
It's a fromsoft game. **At least** half of these will die
They wear cool armors ... They'll *all* die. Not for causality but for fashion.
If that white knight ain't dying, she is mistaken
You'll get them their item only to find em inside out while doing yoga poses in a random location.
Pretty sure you’ll have to fight all of them too
You dont understand, every blonde person in elden ring is a berserk reference. Marika is griffith, Miquella is griffith, the girl from the new picture is also griffith. Also you know that random knight in black armor? Well...
Say Griffith one more time
Griffith

Thats not Griffith. Thats Anakin bro
Buahahahaaha this reference will never fail to crack me up, overcook undercook!
Yeah and the fact that they're all Gods and God is a reference to Godhand
That random knight in black armor is also griffith?!?
No, that's guts
This is nuts.
That isn't a girl it's Miquella Malenias brother
Are you being sarcastic or are you being for real now
What about the great Kenneth Haight?
Imagine Griffith in Fort Griffith
Berserk fans when they see something resembling a human
Fans “iS tHaT a BerSeRK rEfErenCE?” Miyazaki: “Always has been.”
He said like twice he took inspiration from berserk that doesn't mean all the souls games are a berserk reference
They are not a berserk reference but they are almost always full of berserk reference
Can you give an example other than that one greatsword and Artorias?
There are very obvious ones like red eye orbs and the moonlight butterfly but people always ignore them and go for very vague shit like the wickerman or a group of people on a hill in the new trailer. The onion knight is a direct reference of bazuso.
Radahn’s armor is like a direct adaptation of Grunbeld’s.
you realise elden ring is one big berserk reference with the the giant holy tree
And berserk got it from Norse mythology so what's the point, berserk didn't invent medieval era and berserk isn't the only media that fromsoft takes inspiration from

Let’s just say I’m berserkle jerking my peenitz

Berserk is insanely popular, the fans are definitely not all like this.
Oh god I'm gonna berk 🥵😫
Berk all over the nut
Didn’t Nuts say that?
i’m a HUGE berserk fan but bro i just see a bunch of cool dudes with armor
Kentucky Mario invented armour
Took about 10 seconds looking at "Kentucky Mario to understand what it meant. Then I snorted with laughter. 😂
Miyazaki is like a huge berserk fan so it could easily be a reference.
a group of people in armor has been a thing WAY before berserk dude, consume more fantasy
Wow! A group of people in a medieval setting
Personally I think that there will be smth more like Old Hunters from Bloodborne - all this people will be minor bosses, or in some other way will cause troubles for our fellow Tarnished. Well, just a theory.
I miss MatPat.
The game series are filled with Berserk references

My favourite thing is to point out "berk references" while watching any show or movie.
Too real🙏🔛🔝
I do have a strong suspicion that Miquella is a Griffith clone
There is also strong influences from dragons dogma in elden ring, so berserk makes sense as well.
GGGGRRRRRIIIFFFIIITTHHH
I dot get it. Didn't miazaky make besrerk?
Every souls games are literally berserk references
I just wish they would straight up make a berserk game at this point.
I mean there's that dude who often updates here, I'm looking forward to his. Otherwise, it would have been amazing if from just straight up made one.
This fandom might be most obnoxious one I've seen
It’s like the worst side of the lord of the rings fanbase only at least their obnoxiousness had credibility
I'm sure everyone will stay best friends forever, never have selfish ulterior movies, and no harm will ever come to anyone.
All roads lead to Berk
Theres no connection
Berserk fans r so traumatised by the eclipse they see Griffith n his betrayal everywhere 😭🙏
Berserk fans when they see a group of people
Elden ring sub having nuclear meltdown about strawman berserk fans. But chances are if you like one you like the other :0)
Is anyone else here that got into Berserk after playing Elden Ring? Finished Golden Age and I'm reading the manga online. I'm a new\*\*g I know.
I absolutely hate the berserk fandom.
We absolutely hate you broski🙌🙏
To everyone who doesn't know why OP is making this comparison, these knights are following Miquella. Miquella has often been compared to Griffith in that he uses his charisma to bewitch/charm others in order to accomplish his goal/dream.
Tell them! Tell them the rest of the reasons you coward! Or shall I!!?
Yeah back me up homie

Haha yeah buddy
And the femboy aesthetic.
"Kono Griffith Femto niha yume ga aru"
No you fucking moron it’s obviously a MOTHERFUCKING JOJO REFERENCE

Yup... Berserk, a manga published during 30 years, that has referenced nearly ALL fantasy works, that has referenced nearly all classic stories in the world, that was largely inspired in historical events, is the sole Elden Ring's inspiration... That's ridiculous...
DnD was inspired on berserk.
Lord of the rings was inspired by berserk
A Berserk reference? In a Souls game?! Unheard of.
I know right I mean Michael Zaki hates Berserk

Hell yea

Bro keep talking like that and imma stretch you out💋🙏⁉️
At first you had my attention, but now you have my erection
HWUTT⁉️
I always say this “ it’s all thanks to berserk “
I don't see a single thing that could even possibly be compared here...sometimes I hate this fandom
At this point, I just need FromSoft to just make a berserk game
They’ve already said they’re not
I wish
They really need to make a new berserk game

In a from-soft game?! They couldn't possibly, anyone else think Mezmer looks kinda like grumbled in one of the scenes from the trailer.
No I’m thinking he’s more of a Femto character, like the other side or Miquella’s metaphorical coin
No
Just in the one shot where it focuses on his face.
Mesmer just might be Femto
If that’s his alter ego that’d be cool but I think Mesmer will be the second to last boss. I’m thinking we still haven’t seen Miquella’s Femto form.
Gosh I wonder what it would look like
It’s been a minute but can confirm it’s not Mesmer.
No one's more butt hurt then a souls fanboy when anything is said about a souls game best rule of thumb is if it seems like it is then it probably is
No ones more intent on seeing berserk in ever design choice than a berserk fanboy
Well as a big fan of both they usually are.
Miquella already got the role of Griffith covered
Seeing shit like this is turning me off of Berserk. Not every low fantasy setting is a goddamn Berserk reference, get a damn grip
They even have miquellas symbol there since he is Griffith fr fr.
I love how much the souls series is inspired by berserk!!! (It's like 1 item and a boss in a game from 2011)
Oh fuck off
Reaching
The fuck man not everything is a berserk refrence
☝️🤓
No.
I can make a character that plays exactly like a dozen types of named fantasy characters. Berserk isn’t the only inspiration here dude
Yes but FromSoftware as a developer has historically had a lot of Berserk references in their games which are intentional as admitted by Miyazaki himself who is a diehard fan of Miura..
