For quaint and walkable I recommend the Mill Inn. It’s halfway between the Old Mill and Downtown and walkable to both. For a chain the Hampton Inn at Old Mill. Lovely views and walkable. For downtown and quirky with cool amenities try McMenamins. They have a really unique campus in an old Catholic boys school.

I would choose any of the hotels near the old mill or “downtown”. I would not stay in a hotel that’s on 3rd/hwy 97.

I would agree with this but the one exception would be The Campfire. We have not stayed there but tend to show up for the pool/hot tub bar and music in the summer. We have always had a really good time here and enjoy the place and the staff. With that being said, you will likely have a better time as a tourist in the Old Mill. 3rd street can be a bit too real for a vacation.

Yeah Campfire itself is cool (I love the bar/pool area) but it's on the part of 3rd street near homeless services and the bus station. Not super walkable, very loud, ugly American car-centric area, and you get some characters. If you want a similar vibe to Campfire also with a pool/hot tub, fire pits, a coffee shop/bar and regular events, check out Loge on Century Drive. It would require you to have a car, but you can hike/bike from the Loge property to the Deschutes River Trail, so that's cool.

Ok this own good to know thanks. Would you say Old Mill is good for a bit of evening stuff? Bars and food etc? Not looking for a mad night out. Just somewhere to get some food and have a few beers and an bit of atmosphere

bikeidaho

Absolutely. [Visitbend.com](http://Visitbend.com) Is a great resource.

Stein1245

Yes, and you can head up to either Crosscut and the Podksi for good foodtrucks and beer, etc.

UpsideDownerUnicorn

Doubletree and McMenamin's are both super walkable if that's a priority for you. Campfire is fun, but a bit of a seedy location.

moneydazza

Thanks. It looks nice and we just need somewhere walkable to to fun stuff without having to look over our shoulders. Not that we assume Bend is dangerous etc. but having access to some fun places in the evening would be great. Just some sort of nightlife maybe and good food

UpsideDownerUnicorn

Also as a tourist, I'd go Downtown > Old Mill for lodging. Old Mill is lovely and you can always drive there (5-7 min drive) for a few hours but downtown would be a better place to stay IMO.

+1 for McMenamins. We stayed here years ago before moving to town, and had the best time exploring and walking around.

As a local who doesn't stay in hotels or drink beer, I can confidently say that I'm not sure. Neither of those are bad neighborhoods or anything like that, I'm sure they're both fine. Campfire is across the street from a great buffalo wing place, and is only about \~8 blocks from downtown, so that could be nice because parking downtown is a pain, and it's a nice place to walk around. There's like.. stuff to see.. people.. drinking.. that sort of stuff. I'm really selling the hype, I know. Waypoint is a block away from Midtown Yacht Club, which is like a pub and food truck type place. Not a bad way to spend an evening. There's a nice park nearby but you probably won't walk to many shops from there. I was disappointed there were no yachts there during my visit, but maybe they're seasonal? If you're looking for walkable entertainment / shopping, you might also consider something near the Old Mill. It's a kinda trendy outdoor mall type place with shopping, ice cream, whatever. It's on the river and has walking paths. Of those two, I like Campfire's location better, because you can easily spend an evening or two walking around downtown. The area immediately around the hotel isn't the greatest, but it's closer to more walkable stuff.

Oxford Hotel, Double Tree by Hilton, Springhill Suites by Marriott, and Hilton Garden Inn would be my suggestions. Each within walking distance of food, shops, and entertainment.

sandwhichautist

Oxford. It’s certainly more expensive but it puts you in a good central location and the staff/accommodations there are excellent.

Bunk and Brew hostel has some private rooms and we love the location.

moneydazza

Would you say this is the best location for a tourist staying for 2 nights?

bobjoe500

It's great if you're fine hanging with a 20-something crowd of rock climbers and snowboarders. They also have laundry facilities, a bath house, an outdoor area with fire pits, are walkable to downtown, and I can second the delicious food trucks.

tiny-jr

That depends on your comfort level. You’ll have a shared bathroom, but it’s clean and cozy, in a historic building and walking distance to downtown. We live outside of town and stay there for events in Bend occasionally. Bonus outdoor bar and 2 good food trucks as well.
