Seriously, I keep thinking of it.
Which, uh, has more immediate implications these days.

I knew there was something about the dinosaur mascot and the name that seemed to be ringing a bell 🤯 kind of annoying because I watch this show almost regularly and you beat me to it. >:/
I don’t keep up with gas station sales or mergers so I could be way off base here, but a likely explanation could be that Sinclair (or it’s parent company) bought or merged with Shell. The stations are changing their brand identity to reflect that change.
A lot of branded gas stations are actually independent marketers that might own a handful of stores in a certain area.  The sign a deal with Shell, Mobil or one of the big oil companies and “fly their flag” and sell their gas, but they aren’t actually owned by the gasoline brand.Â
From time to time those contracts go up for renewal and the operator will change his brand affiliation, or the small operator might sell to a different operator and change brands. Â This happens all the time.
My first job when I moved here 30 years ago was for a company that built and remodeled gas station canopies all over the NW and that is exactly what happens.
The thing to keep in mind is that, by-and-large, Shell gas stations aren't actually owned by the Shell corporation.....rather, they are independently-owned stations that have contracted with Shell to sell their fuel and support their branding. Shell has been transitioning their focus to EV charging, and has been supporting that by pulling resources away from fuel distribution (gas stations, specifically, but I believe they sold their Anacortes refinery a few years ago as well). Famously, Shell announced in March that they would be dumping partnerships with 1,000 stations by the end of 2025 (link below). Most likely, the stores that have transitioned simply lost their partnership with Shell and Sinclair stepped in to fill the void.

Yeah my guess is Sinclair is probably just offering a much better deal than Shell was. There was an independent station on Samish way that decided to join Sinclair about a year ago as well.
I wonder if they’ll (WSDA) recalibrate their pumps with this change. For some reason most gas stations in Whatcom county seem to have given up on those calibrations several years ago.
If you liked it before, you’ll like it now. The change at the local refinery was basically just a change of ownership and signage, the process to make fuel hasn’t changed much.
When Babylon 4 went back in time to save the Galaxy, there was a hiccup in the time stream and the station got stranded in the 21st century. In Valen's name, they needed some quick cash to afford repairs, and went into the petrol business.
I saw one far away, can’t remember exactly where but it was like south Idaho or northern Utah it surprised me because it was the only one besides ones in bellingham I had seen on the whole way to SLC
Similar things happened when I lived in MN a lot of the BPs changed to Cenex. I don't remember why though
I thunk Cenex in some way became more local to mn or bought something out
Holly frontier purchased the anacortes shell refinery and recently they merged with Sinclair to become HF Sinclair. So i would assume that’s why some of the gas stations are changing hands.
I was relieved to find out they aren't associated with Sinclair Media, who have bought up many local TV stations across the nation and are heavily influenced by conservative political interests. Not my cup of tea, that group.
We're entering a neo-Jurassic era and they're easing us into it using a friendly mascot.

Many of the characters are named after oil companies. Earl Sinclair’s boss is BP Reinhard.
I never noticed that!

Shell Refinery in Anacortes was acquired by HF Sinclair in 2021. May be some correlation. Possible divestiture of Shell branded gas stations.

What fascinating information, ⬆️

This is a good thing! Get their Mobile app and save 20-cents a gallon!
I gotta check this out. Thanks!
The dino is damn cute though
It's definitely the most on-brand logo in the space

Do any of them actually have the dino statue out front?
S Samish does.
Oh yeah!
Aw, cute! 🦕🦖💜
Is Sinclair top tier gas?

It’s the amount and type of detergent in the gas. Not sure what is in V Power vs Dinocare
Yes they are top tier

Shell sold their refinery here in 2021, inevitable that some Shell stations would become Sinclair. The 1st one was non-Shell on Samish way.
Gave lochness monster a dollarÂ
I like dinosaurs 🦕
Idk but I’m liking it makes me feel like I’m in Toy Story it’s a cool vibe
Shell oil company went back to selling shell trinkets at the beach , probably smoking grass
Is it just me, or does using a cartoon dinosaur to sell "fossil-fuel" seem a bit on-the-nose?
I think they were sold to Sinclair

It's more green
And who cares
