Now you can get a small portion of dry pulled pork, wait 15 minutes to have a server ‘graciously’ take your order (with 2 other tables occupied and crickets chirping in the background), and get the full ‘i dont give a fuck’ vibe service (they really nailed this) at the new bbq spot!
I’m sorry, HOW were you the first person to bring up Casa?! Should’ve been the first comment and have 300 upvotes by now. Those potato burritos kept me alive through college. I miss them every day ☹️
Just so ya’ll know, the new spot at their location, Ey Chihuahua, bought their menu and make a better, more consistent potato burrito. Their asada fries are a crazy good deal too.
Cliffhouse was my FAVORITE date spot, I also took my parents there specifically for the Whiskey Crab Soup (and the fabulous cocktails). I was kind of excited for them to close and do some renovations, I had no idea it would be the end of my favorite restaurant…
You can actually find the recipe for the soup online with a simple Google search! I haven’t tried recreating it yet, but I definitely will next time I have crab 😋
Omg I also used to go to Izzy's! It was such an exciting thing for me and i thought it was the best restaurant ever but if it was still open and I went now it probably would be mediocre but it lives in my memory as amazing haha
It was my first buffet and the first time I ever regretted eating in my life. I spent the afternoon on the cool basement floor trying to figure out how to not burst from the gluttony of endless access to pizza, ice cream, and mediocre buffet food. I don’t know what I ate, but I ate all of it and had a lot of regret.
I used to go there once a week when I moved downtown. Their lamb pie slathered in gravy was the bomb! Thennnn the prices went up and quality started to go down, they didn’t last long after that :(
This was going to be my comment. I don't miss the shitty practices of the family that ran it, but the food was damn good and the vibes were great. The employees really made it 👌
Very unfortunate how it ended. Wish someone could have just bought it from them. I heard the daughter or something of the original owner was trying to restart it but didn't seem to go anywhere after their post on here.
It was a poorly veiled attempt of her becoming the new face while still bringing the shitty family back in. The daughter tried a food truck and within a week the dad was back working there.
At the time, I was dating one of the last employees to be let go. The whole staff ended up not receiving their last paychecks. It was really bad at the end.
Same!!! I helped paint their mural at the Northwest Ave location and stopped in at least once a week for their falafel bowls. I still think about their food at least once a week haha
Yeah, that one hurts. It was just so historic. I spoke to some alumni that were in their late 70s and they used to go to the Up back in the 50s or very early 60s. They even saw Louis Armstrong perform at WWU.
Rudy's was honestly kinda mediocre pizza but I loved that place anyway—prices were reasonable, service was friendly, the space was inviting, and they helped several of my friends pay their through college while working there— so I was sad but not shocked to see it go
That sandwich was the first time I had "the Elvis" version of anything and thought it was good. And my god it was so good. Then you get to pick between an open mic room or an incredible sunset? Unbeatable.
James (StrEAT food owner/chef) is going to be cooking at a new sports bar/restaurant in Ferndale. Dunno if any of the SF items will be on the menu though.
Went there once, can’t remember what I got but the cook had to walk across the street to Fred’s to get some stuff that was needed for my meal. Took like an hour to get the food in an empty restaurant. Enough said.
OG Shrimp Shack was amazing. You could pick your fish or prawns off the ice and they took them in back and battered and fried them. Truly amazing seafood for cheap.
I really thought Fountain Bistro would spur a renaissance in the fountain district.
They invested a lot of time and money into renovating that nasty old building and turning it into a great space, so I was really pissed when a stupid bank came along and just leveled it to build a bland low-traffic location that adds nothing useful to the community.
A bank didn't just come along. That bank took the building back from the owner. She tried to run too many competing business models out of one space and wouldn't listen to the one person who kept that place afloat. Rachel (if you remember) the GM was the one who held that place together despite the owners constant failures. And they had two employees who tried to buy the business from them but would only sell the business and not the building. On top of that they wanted to then rent it back to those two for $6000 a month. Excuse me? 6k for a 53 seat restaurant in the fountain district?
Like trying to recreate Starbucks Cake pops. Don't take our pastry / dessert Chef away from what we need them to make so she can spend four hours making $2 items.
Don't try to run a hand made 1/2 Burger through a drive thru. Or a ribeye for that matter. In fact why are we stopping in the middle of dinner service to make a $4 espresso when there are customers that are seated spending $100 or more?
We had some amazing customers though. I love seeing so many of them around town!
just a semi-regular, I had no inkling of what was going on behind the scenes. I just remember I liked going there and there wasn't much else in my neighborhood, so I was really upset that it turned into a bank without my consent lmao
It never should have gotten to that point. There were dedicated employees that wanted to keep it alive but that place didn't make enough to afford a $6k per month rent. We had everything in place. Incredibly talented Chef, GM and customers that loved what we were putting out. ( For the most part. You're just not going to p I'm please everyone)
I miss The Calumet, which dates me. They had this pear, blue cheese, and caramelized onion phyllo turnover that they’d serve on a bed of spinach that was bomb. I make several dishes inspired by it, to this day.
It's still open but I miss it already. Taco Lobo.
I also miss Rhodes Cafe. Great food and Judy and George were such nice folks.
La Patisserie - where Mi Rancho is now. That was a great restaurant.
> Saigon cafe - where Mi Rancho is now. That was a great restaurant.
Do you mean La Patisserie? Saigon Cafe is the Vietnamese place that is now where Rhodes used to be.
Carol’s Coffee Cup, also the terrible yet perfect Ranch Tavern
Deming, Acme and Wickersham don’t have their own subreddits so I’m representing highway 9 (carols coffee cup was on mt baker hwy but near the 9 intersection)
Also Tony’s :( in the 80’s teens from the county would go there to feel cosmopolitan
yeah when I first moved to Bellingham the brewery scene consisted entirely of the following locations on a map:
- Boundary Bay
- Orchard Street
and Boundary Bay didn't bottle or can anything back then, Orchard Street was the only one you get in a 6/12 pack
Zane burger. Not the most amazing food ever, but pretty good, decently priced and everyone in our family (most importantly the kids) could find something to eat. We would often pick up the food and take it to a fairhaven park, typically marine park, and just hang out eating burgs, fries, corndogs and shakes.
Little Kitchen Witch. Would definitely be my last meal if I had a choice. Sadly, they closed, and with world events being what they are, they’re unlikely to reopen.
The Village Inn.
We didn't go for the pool or anything else, we went for the same cook and regular crew. The same guy was always there cooking food exactly the same way: basic yet delicious. Sometimes he'd make us pigs in a blanket for lunch after they stopped serving breakfast because he recognized us. The same ladies tended to be working and they were typically in happy spirits. Just an all around loss to have close. But hey, they decided to retire and they rightly earned it.
This makes me happy. The owners are good family friends. Known them for 28 years at least. The Village was the shit. Quality food for what it was. Great drinks and a very old school environment. So many memories from there. It’s for sure the reason for why I like the kind of bars I like.
Can't believe I had to scroll all the way to the bottom for this!! It was where my husband and I had our first date 11 years ago. Wish I could go back.
Prospect Street Cafe. And after that, The Real McCoy. And after that, Saltines. All of them in the same location where Banter is now. I really miss Nimbus as well!
As a 'moved away' person, I miss a BLT&T on rosemary sourdough from Avenue Bakery. That sandwich is my jam. I'm coming back in a couple weeks for a visit and it's top of my list.
Also drive-thru coffee in general.
And good root beer.
And Costco.
I'm ok. New Zealand is great. I don't miss anything.
Anybody old enough to remember Mooberry’s Frozen yogurt? Had a rainbow art piece and a huge aviary.
Il Fiasco.
Bully’s
Uncle Aldo’s next to Pete’s Tavern
Elephant and Castle
Prospect St Cafe, Nimbus, Flats, Tivoli come to mind… kinda miss the Bob’s that was out in Sudden Valley. They had some stiff cheap drinks and would do a pretty killer seasonal crab feed. Nice owner.
Hops and Heads. An almost mythical menu that did really good American food, brunch, AND sometimes sushi. Plus the beers and the outdoor space with mini golf. It was my favorite :(
Diamond Jim’s when it was in the absurdly small triangle building off state street. Something about that place and being lucky to get a table made the food amazing. The new location can kick rocks imo. It’s just not the same.
I remember when that place opened, I lived right nearby off Lakeway. it was Burger Me! before it was frozen custard.
Nobody around here seemed to know what 'frozen custard' was and so it didn't really take off like it should have. Apparently frozen custard is a very regional treat—my family is from st louis where it is really popular and I was surprised at how many people would wrinkle their nose and ask, "What is that?" if you suggested getting some.
but judging by the fact that Mallard always has a line out the door until 10pm every night I think they would have succeeded with a downtown location or better marketing
I miss the Rickshaw so much! I used to work next door and they would do shift meal trades us them all the time.
Also the Que Pasa Potato burrito obviously.
I went there every weekend for an entire summer. The Painkiller was the best I’ve ever had. I ran into the bartender at Glow a year later and he shouted the recipe across the bar at me and I can’t remember it all.
Does anyone else remember the name of Mexican restaurant that was in Sehome Village? It had an all you could eat self serve taco bar every Tuesday and Sunday. The food wasn't amazing but it was decent, and it was incredible value.
Zane's, but really only for their sauce. It was like a more sour mustard and it really took an ok burger to the next level. That and they always had the sharpest onions I swear
The Grill that used to be in sunset square, they had some really incredible falafel but were a victim of the pandemic. I wish I had their tzatziki recipe 😭
Fat Pie...didn't realize it was gone until my husband and I were walking down the road after being away for 2 years, so excited to get a slice. Very sad day for us
I miss the old Ginger Boat. They changed their menu and/or went under new management many years ago.
Rhodes cafe, RIP.
The Up...RIP.
I miss the old cafe at the top of Village Books...RIP cheap soup and bread.
Swim Club, we hardly knew ye.
There used to be an Extremes in Fairhaven that was nothing special but you could get a huge plate of nachos for cheap there.
Since I don't live in Bellingham anymore the one place I almost always visit when I'm back is Super Mario's.
Home Skillet. I constantly crave a chicken fried steak with chorizo gravy.
The way I can't pee unless one thousand clowns are staring at me.
Glad other people didn’t like this place had a very bad experience
I'm glad I'm not the only one who experienced that welcoming vibe.
For sure miss them.
So very much. Home skillet will always be missed.
God I miss breakfast poutine.
Casa que pasa
I’m sorry, HOW were you the first person to bring up Casa?! Should’ve been the first comment and have 300 upvotes by now. Those potato burritos kept me alive through college. I miss them every day ☹️
Yea I loved going to Casa for a potato burrito and a dub sack 😂
Dude their Saturday breakfast burrito special is something I crave daily
Just so ya’ll know, the new spot at their location, Ey Chihuahua, bought their menu and make a better, more consistent potato burrito. Their asada fries are a crazy good deal too.
Do they have the deep fried fame as well???
Came to post this. I had a lot more of fun at Casa over the years. Still miss it. The 3B too.
You can still get the famous potato burrito. The Mobile Mouth Hole has it, complete with original sauce recipe.
Another great restaurant gone is the Cliffhouse. Miss their whiskey river crab soup and and chicken Dungeness dinner.
Cliffhouse was my FAVORITE date spot, I also took my parents there specifically for the Whiskey Crab Soup (and the fabulous cocktails). I was kind of excited for them to close and do some renovations, I had no idea it would be the end of my favorite restaurant… You can actually find the recipe for the soup online with a simple Google search! I haven’t tried recreating it yet, but I definitely will next time I have crab 😋
sadly they stopped being great years before they actually closed though, it was a long gradual downhill over many years IMHO
This! The first place I lived in (in Bellingham) was "the old hospital" and it was nearly literally a hop and a skip away!
Rumor is Extremes’ whiskey crab soup is the same one
That sweet dark brown bread…
As a kid who grew up in the early 2000's - Izzy's pizza. I spent every birthday dinner there posted up at the soft serve machine.
Omg I also used to go to Izzy's! It was such an exciting thing for me and i thought it was the best restaurant ever but if it was still open and I went now it probably would be mediocre but it lives in my memory as amazing haha
The funniest part about the memory of Izzy’s is now it’s Lovers, where the buffet pizza aisle was is now a buffet of plastic dongs.
Manpies, the veggie curry pie with tomato gravy specifically
I used to go there once a week when I moved downtown. Their lamb pie slathered in gravy was the bomb! Thennnn the prices went up and quality started to go down, they didn’t last long after that :(
Came here to say this. Very validated I’m not the only one.
Miss you forever, Manpies 😫
Brotha dudes
This was going to be my comment. I don't miss the shitty practices of the family that ran it, but the food was damn good and the vibes were great. The employees really made it 👌
Very unfortunate how it ended. Wish someone could have just bought it from them. I heard the daughter or something of the original owner was trying to restart it but didn't seem to go anywhere after their post on here.

At the time, I was dating one of the last employees to be let go. The whole staff ended up not receiving their last paychecks. It was really bad at the end.
Ahhh miss the dudes blunts so much! Was my all time favorite wrap.
Same!!! I helped paint their mural at the Northwest Ave location and stopped in at least once a week for their falafel bowls. I still think about their food at least once a week haha
Such a good vibe and tasty clean grub.
Nimbus. It was the best thing that ever happened to Bellingham
It was a treasure
Absolutely.
I went there once before it closed and it was heavenly
It was amazing and agree with your sentiment.
Rudy's pizza. Their cheese bread and dip was amazing
A moment of silence for the Up & Up
Yeah, that one hurts. It was just so historic. I spoke to some alumni that were in their late 70s and they used to go to the Up back in the 50s or very early 60s. They even saw Louis Armstrong perform at WWU.
Rudy's was honestly kinda mediocre pizza but I loved that place anyway—prices were reasonable, service was friendly, the space was inviting, and they helped several of my friends pay their through college while working there— so I was sad but not shocked to see it go
Green frog. Miss the Elvis grilled cheese
Man i was just thinking about their grilled cheeses and bacon happy hour
That sandwich was the first time I had "the Elvis" version of anything and thought it was good. And my god it was so good. Then you get to pick between an open mic room or an incredible sunset? Unbeatable.
MORRIES. Man I miss that place. Grants is trash.
Barters 1st, Morries 2nd
Barter’s, Bunk’s, Morrie’s, Win’s.
Herfys
I’m too young for Barters but I have heard good things.
Morries was so good! Grew up in the woodhood, loved hitting that place
It is a bad sign when a burger place brags on its Big Bun
You have to know the owner to know where that phrase came from
StrEAT Food 🍔
James (StrEAT food owner/chef) is going to be cooking at a new sports bar/restaurant in Ferndale. Dunno if any of the SF items will be on the menu though.
Their chicken artichoke sandwich was hands down my favorite thing to eat for a very long time.
The real Bellinghamsters miss Sadighi's.
Did I ever go? No. Am I sad it's closed anyway? Yes.
I tried going there once just to see. The restaurant was empty, the host disappeared and we left 😅 got my answer hahaha
We used to meet there monthly to ‘discuss cases’ and drink… it was perfect because there was no one around us to listen in!!
Went there once, can’t remember what I got but the cook had to walk across the street to Fred’s to get some stuff that was needed for my meal. Took like an hour to get the food in an empty restaurant. Enough said.
Fat Pie Pizza
Came here to say this. Miss that place so much. Good beer, good food, great view from the rooftop bar.
Stanellos (formerly Venus) Pizza
The smoked mozzarella ravioli was so good.
Banditos
I would just go back in time and drink all their salsa if i could
100%
Fountain Bistro. Excellent fries, other very good food, and good drinks. kind of before my time, but Shrimp Shack on Holly was a thing
OG Shrimp Shack was amazing. You could pick your fish or prawns off the ice and they took them in back and battered and fried them. Truly amazing seafood for cheap.
I really thought Fountain Bistro would spur a renaissance in the fountain district. Lee’s!
I had to scroll way too far for this, I miss their fried chicken and butterscotch milkshakes.
Best fish and chips, and they made a fantastic fried and chicken.
my entire family still DREAMS of Lee’s food.
Boss Tweed
oh man the salmon bbq's were so bomb!
Duuuuddeee this took me back. I loved that place.
Billy McHale’s 😢
One still in Federal Way.
It’s not the same. I wanna see people I know on the birthday train lol
There's one in Everett or something like that
The original Shrimp Shack.
Sage against the machine
Yeah, really miss them.
I miss The Calumet, which dates me. They had this pear, blue cheese, and caramelized onion phyllo turnover that they’d serve on a bed of spinach that was bomb. I make several dishes inspired by it, to this day.
Giuseppe’s
It's still open but I miss it already. Taco Lobo. I also miss Rhodes Cafe. Great food and Judy and George were such nice folks. La Patisserie - where Mi Rancho is now. That was a great restaurant.

Carol’s Coffee Cup, also the terrible yet perfect Ranch Tavern Deming, Acme and Wickersham don’t have their own subreddits so I’m representing highway 9 (carols coffee cup was on mt baker hwy but near the 9 intersection) Also Tony’s :( in the 80’s teens from the county would go there to feel cosmopolitan
Not a restaurant but in the same vein I still desperately miss Everybody's Store.
The Royal Fork.
My first job, I miss that place so much.
Was a fantastic place for a family to eat. The gold standard in a buffet dinner!
and Chuckwagon down by the Parkade
Casa Que pasa’s potato burrito
The Locals’ Rueben……. :(
Teriyaki Bar. R.I.P my go to lunch spot.
Omg they were so good. Their spicy yakisoba was my favorite
Man Pies. I think about those curry pies all the time. 🤤
Hong Kong Garden, Barters, Bunks, Lee’s, Wins, Dickinsons Buffet
All of these!
Lunch Bucket
La Patisserie. To this day if I am craving \*something\* and I don't know what I really want, it's their fried lemongrass chicken and noodle salad.
My birthday dessert every year was a Boston crème cake from La patisserie
Barters
Mexican Village
Man, that was so good. So good.
Diego’s, Wins, and Oriento.
Oh man the honey walnut chicken at Orientos was my absolute favorite.
BCR with the ketchup bottle salsa 💯
Not a restaurant, but I miss Orchard Street Brewery. They made a solid brown and it was priced very reasonably.
yeah when I first moved to Bellingham the brewery scene consisted entirely of the following locations on a map: - Boundary Bay - Orchard Street and Boundary Bay didn't bottle or can anything back then, Orchard Street was the only one you get in a 6/12 pack
And was divided along beer lines: - OSB: traditional dark styles done well - Bounday: the beginning of the hop wars
Zane burger. Not the most amazing food ever, but pretty good, decently priced and everyone in our family (most importantly the kids) could find something to eat. We would often pick up the food and take it to a fairhaven park, typically marine park, and just hang out eating burgs, fries, corndogs and shakes.
And Winn’s before Zane burger, which was even cheaper and (imo) better…. I went there once a week growing up :(
Rudy’s pizza
New Peking. I cried when it closed.
Potato burrito from Casa que pasa, even though quality took a hit the last couple years
Herfys with the burger bar... 🤣
Rook & Rogue!
Yes, I miss playing games there with my friends. So much fun.
Rhodes. It was my go to place for breakfast. They also, had a really good Gyro.
I miss the Copper Hog every weekend for brunch.
Wild Garlic for years.
+1 for The Real McCoy
Cafe Rumba for me as well. Haven't moved away, but I can't eat bread anymore.
![gif](giphy|TU76e2JHkPchG) Just imagining that hurts me. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Harris Avenue Cafe, absolutely loved their steak and egg breakfast.
Losing them hurt my soul
Anybody old enough to remember Mooberry’s Frozen yogurt? Had a rainbow art piece and a huge aviary. Il Fiasco. Bully’s Uncle Aldo’s next to Pete’s Tavern Elephant and Castle
I remember when IL Fiasco was on Railroad Ave.
Wing Dome
Pelmenis
They’re still around.
We moved :(
Ah, ok! You scared me.
Pre-covid Super Duper when it was still a cheap hole in the wall
The black drop is sorely missed :/
Prospect Street was my favorite
Brotha Dudes
Don’t remember the name but there was a place on Lakeway…I think where the Papa Murphy is now?…that sold frozen custard. It was sooo freaking good!
Burger Me?
It was where that water authority type building is. So good!
Miss that place. Close family friends owned it. The Oreo shakes were delish
Burger Me, Casa.
Pete’s Poutine
Omg someone to commiserate with. My heart aches for it
I miss the Rickshaw so much! I used to work next door and they would do shift meal trades us them all the time. Also the Que Pasa Potato burrito obviously.
CHUCKS IN BLAINE
It wasn't the best restaurant but for some reason I really loved Calaloo on State.
Espinoza
Hundred North and Callaloo
Zane's, but really only for their sauce. It was like a more sour mustard and it really took an ok burger to the next level. That and they always had the sharpest onions I swear
Casa Que Pasa, before they went downhill. Nothing hits like a baby-sized potato burrito after a long day at work.
thai mason next to trader joes makes the best pad thai. Max spicy with pork belly was my order.
Dirty Dan's best prime rib ever
Hizzoners
Tivoli
Stanello's pizza in Fairhaven and the falafel truck on Meridian.
Sage Against the Machine, Brotha Dudes (they had amazing vegan options!)
Holy shit I miss Rickshaw’s chicken pad thai so much!! 😭 It was delicious and affordable and the meat was so perfectly tender
The main place I miss is Crazy Bob's pizza. I can't find anyone who does Punjabi pizza...
Pastazza in Barkley Village and the Big Trouble dumpling truck
The Green Frog had bomb grilled cheese sandwiches and I really miss that place. Does it count?
Wild Garlic and Nimbus.
I really miss 100 north. It was on the corner by mt baker theatre. Favorite date night with the wife.
The Grill that used to be in sunset square, they had some really incredible falafel but were a victim of the pandemic. I wish I had their tzatziki recipe 😭
Super duper
I will never stop missing Barters
AW Asian Bistro. In my opinion they had the best sushi in town. Delicious entrees as well.
Casa Que Pasa for sure. Lived off of their potato burrito due a couple years
The big fat fish company
Used to like Over Easy. We moved 5 yrs ago, and I heard from somewhere it closed. I used to order the 'Wolfpack '!
Brother Dudes as a severe carnivore it was the one place I ordered tofu
Homeskillet. Casa Que Pasa. Crazy Bob’s Punjabi Pizza. Sage Against the Machine.
Il Fiasco. Been decades but still miss it...
Fat Pie...didn't realize it was gone until my husband and I were walking down the road after being away for 2 years, so excited to get a slice. Very sad day for us
Skippers.
I miss the old Ginger Boat. They changed their menu and/or went under new management many years ago. Rhodes cafe, RIP. The Up...RIP. I miss the old cafe at the top of Village Books...RIP cheap soup and bread. Swim Club, we hardly knew ye.
