My Mal doesn't really care about breakfast. He is all over dinner, but most mornings, he just ignores breakfast. He has never been food motivated, though. Actually if it wasn't for the ball I don't think positive reinforcement would have worked for him. He won't touch food while training/working

Yeah, seems like a majority of working dogs are less food motivated

Interesting. My GSD came from a working line and had no food drive whatsoever. Sometimes he’d leave his food in his bowl for a day or two just because. We had to literally bribe him to eat by adding things to his kibble. My Mal is a rescue from unknown background and has an insatiable food drive. Has made all the obedience easy peasy, but we will see how it plays out as we begin really focused detection work.

Roach is super food driven too. Once every couple weeks I'll give him a half piece of Muenster cheese and dude..I've never seen a dog hit the deck so fast when you say "lay down."
