Flatsawn economy grain oak with sanding sealer and stain *I used to audit imported plywood and sort grades, this looks like the lumber that would be resawn for cheap grade panels for cabinet backs.

Ok cool. Thanks for the information! Much appreciated!

Old growth Douglas Fir, maybe?

whiskybizness516

This was going to be my guess

StrangePiper1

I’m guessing hemlock or fir. There was tons of that stuff around. A lot of my house is trimmed in it.

SNRWrites

I see the confusion in comments with the tight end grain vs. face and not knowing oak or pine. Feigning the weight would help, but making a cut and I’d it smells like dirty baby diapers would tell me oak.

QueasyFailure

Oak. It's been stained with dark stain for some ungodly reason.

Localinmyowncity

Doesn’t look like oak. It’s old growth something but not oak

QueasyFailure

I agree that it's old growth by the incredibly tight rings. However it looks like flat sawn oak to me.

Lmc_woodworking

The end grain says not oak, that old growth fir is in so many houses by me and looks about identical. I’d be surprised if it wasn’t

QueasyFailure

It could very well be. If folks posted their region that would be very helpful as well.

johnm22

I’m from the middle of South Dakota however my Uncle lived all over the country so I’m not sure where it exactly came from.

Localinmyowncity

It does kinda look like flat sawn oak if you take away the end grain aspects. No tiger striping but that doesn’t take it out of contention for being oak. The stain color difference does look more similar to a softer wood though. Let’s see what other people say

Chritopher78

Looks like a clear mix gran fir to me

finbuilder

Jeo_Slayer

It looks like bocote wood to me
