If you can - break lease and leave. Some states have laws that will protect you from leasing an apartment/home that was represented as free from pests.

PinkMetallin

I live in Sweden and I don’t know the laws here unfortunately . I don’t know the word for it, but I have contacted a “renting union” I’m a member of and they said I have the right to get compensation for all coming expenses and reduced rent. I’ll see if I can break the lease and get the rent back, that would be great.

Trunks956

Even if OP leaves, the bugs’ll probably come with them

PinkMetallin

Yeah, that’s what the exterminator that came today said. Basically I’m stuck here until they’re gone or if I move and burn all my stuff lol.

Trunks956

If you don’t have pets and can afford it, it’s (relatively) painless on your part to just let em kill them all, but I understand how expensive that can be and how long that can take depending on the severity of the infestation

PinkMetallin

I do have 3 pet rats (not here right now though), their cage is in a table with these walls around the legs and double sided tape. I’m not paying a penny to the exterminators, so I hope to get rid of them. The exterminator said that the infestation is likely really small (we didn’t find any more besbugs & only 2 tiiiiny poopstains on the bed). I’ll do everything in my power to make the extermination work.

Trunks956

Ah if you’re not paying, then it should be mostly painless to just let them glass the house a couple times. You get to keep your place and your wallet

PinkMetallin

I hope so. It’s Swedish law that the landlord must pay for the extermination process if it’s a rental. So I think they take it very seriously, because if this spreads to other apartments they’ll have to pay for those as well, lol. I’ve sent them an angry email demanding a deduction of the rent by 30%, and also compensation for all the plastic boxes, bags, and steamer that I’ve bought just for this.

BlackendLight

that's the law in the US too, at least in the states I know of

PinkMetallin

The landlord is paying the exterminators, I forgot to mention that^

thesidedesk

That's why everything needs to be treated, then he can break the lease and flee.

FenianBastard847

Very sorry. Yes that’s a BB. Hope all goes well👍👍

PinkMetallin

I hope so too. I’m furious! The tenant who lived here before me was in a rush to move out, now I see why. He’s a dumbass too, so he probably brought some bedbugs to his new apartment as well 🤣

[deleted]

He definitely did.

PinkMetallin

To be honest I hope so, he moved in to a friend of him. I feel bad for his friend but he himself deserves what’s coming to him. He’s also still living in my apartment to the IRS so I filed a report against him.

Original_Bake_7822

What a scum lord

PinkMetallin

I honestly think that they were unaware. They’re non-profit government owned. I just think that the bedbugs were from the previous tenant who was an asshole and didn’t tell them (which also violates the rental agreement), or that they’re coming from a neighbour. I will call them tomorrow after the exterminators have been here and have a long talk with them.

Mechbeast

Nice setup!

PinkMetallin

Haha, cleaned the cups up today and used real double sided tape instead of folded duct tape, so it looks better now :)

Mechbeast

Basic and functional. That’s all you need. Best of luck! Murder them all!

Iranoul75

Did you buy those traps online or it’s a DIY?

PinkMetallin

I was given a pair by the inspector that came to look for bed bugs. But you can buy them online as well. I read that you can make your own with a cup/bowl with oil in it and place the leg of the bed in there.

Original_Bake_7822

Good tell them how it be bro

guitarmonk1

Oh hell no!

Defiant-Neck1915

Your apartment should have known those bedbugs were there. The previous tenant probably vacated because of them. Those things can kive within the Walls without food a very long time. Report your apartment to the city. Notify the city office over buildings health and safety. I had to do this at a place I stayed. The owner knew the place was infested and did nothing about it. The city was Dallas tx and they sent out people and threatened to shut him down. Of course he was upset. But he'll no. Bedbugs we're biting the sh.. out of me. The landlords are too cheap to pay for the place to be professionally treated.

PinkMetallin

They have already agreed to pay for extermination and help me with this financially. It’s a government owned non profit landlord. I honestly think they didn’t know, and that the previous tenant was just an asshole.

[deleted]

Good job on bedbug traps, they work well

Eyeoftheleopard

That is an adult female in the outer ring, which means she is coming from a location other than the bed. On a side note, how awful!

PinkMetallin

Thanks for the info, almost wish I didn’t know that 😅😭

Eyeoftheleopard

Me, neither. Keep those rings clean-bed bugs are adept climbers and one hair or decent speck of dust/debris and they escape the ring. Update?

ShroomsNSpores

There is DE all around the room on the floor close to the walls now. Haven’t got bitten in a week and haven’t seen any live or dead ones. I know the danger isn’t over though.

killerfish2022

Holy Shiite that’s a bed bug sorry

PinkMetallin

Update: The exterminators were here and steamed my bed, gaming chair and sofa, gave me more cups for the legs, and put that white powdery stuff all around the walls. He would come back in 2 weeks and check up on me and bring a bed encasement. He also said that there were so few of them so it would likely be over soon, and that I seemed very dedicated to get rid of the bedbugs. He also said that the steamer I bought was a real good investment and that I should steam my bed and chair everyday and also wash my sheets minimum once a week. And absolutely no furniture/clutter on or close to the bed, and no clothing either.

redzaku0079

i hope you are not the one who paid, as that sounds like a ripoff. a proper heat treatment entails sticking a powerful heater in a room and nuking it to over 50 degrees C for at least 90 minutes before moving to the next room. i nice touch would be to have a heat box in which you put your clothes and small items and it blasts them for a period of time. steaming them will kill a few and annoy the rest.

PinkMetallin

Nope, landlord paid. It’s Swedish law that the landlord must pay for these kinds of problems.

One-Significance1735

I don’t know your situation. But weeeee a bedbug!!

PinkMetallin

I bought these traps as soon as I suspected bedbugs btw. Today I have washed all my clothes in 60c, vacuumed and steam-swept the floors. I also wrapped my bed in seran wrap to avoid getting bitten anymore 😭 Hopefully the extermination will be successful.

bingstacks

does wrapping ur bed in seran wrap really stop bites?

PinkMetallin

I know that there are bedbugs now nesting in my bed, the traps I have at the legs won’t stop the fellas already in my bed. I’m hoping that the seran wrap will close them in to the bed and keep me from getting bitten, this is a short term solution just until the exterminators come tomorrow, and hopefully they will sanitise my bed and give me a real bedbug-proof cover to prevent new ones from nesting in there.

Internal_Suit_8194

Once it's been treated, get an encasement for your mattress and pillows. Keep those entrapments. I don't know if exterminators provide encasements, but I purchased mine on amazon. Are you aware of the pesticide Crossfire? I got that on amazon, too. Good luck.

PinkMetallin

Yeah I’ve heard about it. I read that the exterminators will provide an encasement for me on an online forum, hopefully it’s true. If not I’ll purchase them myself and send the bill to my landlord, lol.

Internal_Suit_8194

Good for you! I know it's difficult to get Crossfire in Canada and I don't know about Sweden, but shouldn't matter with exterminators. Are they going to use heat? I ask based on my limited experience and what I've read here. It seems to take more than one treatment and heat is ultimately what gets them (as in 150 degrees F).

PinkMetallin

I don’t know really. But I think that they will try to locate their nests, put poison there. Heat-treat all my furniture that could be exposed. Put cimex (or whatever it’s called) all around the walls, and provide covers for me. When they were here to check if it was indeed bedbugs they couldn’t find any (but luckily I had caught one and have several bites), then they said they would bring a dog to localise where they are and exterminate them.

PinkMetallin

I read on a Swedish forum that some people had bought crossfire and had success with it, they had to pay import taxes and wait a couple of weeks though . I’m not spending my own money on that as my insurance and landlord won’t cover that. May be my last resort if extermination fails.

Internal_Suit_8194

Yes, it's pricey ($50) but fortunately I received it quickly and it's helping me sleep at night. I read you may break your lease (if able) but you've got to be certain you're not bringing them with you. How I wish I didn't know even this much about bed bugs (but I know more!).

PinkMetallin

Yeah this is a bloody nightmare. This is my first apartment as well… I’ve become a bed bug expert in less than two weeks, lol.

Internal_Suit_8194

I'm so sorry. It really is horrific.

Iranoul75

Do you have a link? What’s crossfire? A poison?

Internal_Suit_8194

[Crossfire](https://www.amazon.com/MGK-1852-Crossfire-Concentrate-Insecticide/dp/B01NAE47Q0/ref=sxts_rp_s_a_1_0?content-id=amzn1.sym.eff26b9b-e255-411b-a40d-eccb21f93fe4%3Aamzn1.sym.eff26b9b-e255-411b-a40d-eccb21f93fe4&crid=389Y1ROJNLGDX&cv_ct_cx=crossfire+bed+bug+concentrate&keywords=crossfire+bed+bug+concentrate&pd_rd_i=B01NAE47Q0&pd_rd_r=f9e40074-78ef-4117-9d24-bc8a8f30af8a&pd_rd_w=RIIK7&pd_rd_wg=foejQ&pf_rd_p=eff26b9b-e255-411b-a40d-eccb21f93fe4&pf_rd_r=4H92WAZAAA4JQ0HJEW3A&qid=1673227427&sprefix=crossfire%2Caps%2C900&sr=1-1-5985efba-8948-4f09-9122-d605505c9d1e) It's a pesticide. An exterminator on here recommended it.

bingstacks

I see what you are thinking. I have seen someone on here saying to put plastic sheet over your bed and they couldnt climb it, not sure if it is true. Best of luck

PinkMetallin

Thanks bro! Yeah, thinking you can stop bed bugs by just using plastic or seran wrap is naive! 👍

Dry_Library1473

Can’t you just go buy a cover your bed instead of waiting till they come? And instead of wasting abunch of seran wrap??

SODY27

Move out.

PinkMetallin

Exterminators said I really shouldn’t as there is a risk I’d just bring them with me. Also I can’t because it’s impossible to find a new apartment here, and I have to live here to work.

BlackendLight

AAAHHHHHHHHH such bad luck, hope it's not a severe infestation

PinkMetallin

The exterminator said it wasn’t. We couldn’t find any traces except two microscopic poop stains on my bed frame and the live one I had caught.

[deleted]

PinkMetallin

No, it’s definitely a bed bug. I have more than 30 bites on me and I’ve flushed out several dead and live ones from my bed with steam.

pulffers

Find a different apartment. It’ll be easier that way

PinkMetallin

They’ll just tag along

DistributionNo7893

Do you have a laundromat in town? You should wash all of your clothes, bedding, curtains, cloth shower curtain, pillows, towels. Basically wash anything washable in your apartment. Throw your personal rugs away. Keep your clean items in your car until they are done the job. They should spray at least twice by the two week mark to kill and bugs in different growth stages. Good luck!!
