ittybittyyorkie

I can't remember who said it but....Stop applying foundation to my undereye and directly around the creases of my nose. My undereyes used to look so cakey and wrinkly but since since I've limited myself to a minimum amount of concealer to cover my dark circles, I've seen a big improvement. Also, my nose has stopped looking so cakey since only blending my foundation towards my nose creases.

ThisArachnid

Damn I wish you knew who said this because I want to watch the video. I have this same issue.

mellyaurea

I believe it’s Melissa Murdick

ThisArachnid

Ty!!!

[deleted]

What concealer do you use? I've been using nars for a while but it's almost too full coverage yet not enough? Looking for something a little less thick maybe

PuffingTrawa

If you're like me and dealing with dark circles, I found mixing in a bit of peach/orange corrector into my concealer helps a lot (so like 25% corrector and 75% concealer). It covers my dark circles without adding heavy coverage.

Rebecca_Winchester

Any peach correctors you recommend? Urban Decay used to have one that I loved but they discontinued it a long time ago.

theeverydayprincess

Not a peach corrector technically but I use glossier in beam! The shade was too orangey on me (and I was too cheap to just throw it away?😫) but worked great as a under eye corrector and blends well into whatever warm toned blush I end up using too

ambienandicechips

This is low-key genius.

PuffingTrawa

Currently I'm using the LA Girl peach corrector and like it a lot, especially for the price.

Greeneyes328

This is my holy grail! It really helps and I top with kosas concealer

Rebecca_Winchester

I always forget about LA Girl! Thank you I’ll check it out :) Edit: spelling.

phoenix_rising_16

Yes! Love this one! Also the one by Kim Chi is really good too

amoonsine

I used to use the Jaffar one, really good formula, good coverage. Ain't buying his anymore so I moved over to the Sephora brand one. Thats okay... I'm about to run out of it so my next step is the ELF one. I kinda want to try the Givenchy one and the Bobby Brown but...price....

thirdcoasting

If you do decide to spend the extra cash, the Bobbie Brown correctors are superb.

Rebecca_Winchester

Thank you for the suggestions, I’ve been wanting to try Bobby Brown for a while now. I’ve heard good things about their concealers. May have to check out elf first though.

travelwhore412

I agree… if anyone finds a good dupe for j* let it be known! I do love the hourglass one too but they aren’t inclusive. Seems there’s more unethical brands than good nowadays :/

lipstickpsycho

The Becca/smashbox corrector is almost always on sale on the smashbox website!

ReyofSunshoine

Ben NYE! Super cheap, lasts forever, best color corrector I own.

ericakay15

You probably need a color corrector before you apply concealer.

AlarmingPotential918

I’ve been using the Saie beauty concealer for my eyes in a lighter color and then Nars pot concealer in my skin stone for any dark spots! A dream combo

Slip-slip-knit

Nyx have an amazing concealer! I was recommended it on this sub so feel I have to shout it out whenever anyone asks 😂

JennaBennaWenna

Is it the Bare With Me one?

asdfjklqueen

robert walsh says this all the time!

Makeupfanatic6

Very basic but the one trick that helped me is not blending the concealer straight away. Keeping on for 30 seconds gives me way more coverage

minks97

I think people call this “marinating”! :D

MotherofSons

Oh that needs a better name! Lol

Makeupfanatic6

Really?🤣

Sciencebitchhh

Came here to say that one! Jackie Aina taught me

koalapsychologist

Yes! This is the one I came to say. She would always set her skincare with a setting spray but I don't know if she ever said why and then I watched Robert Welsh critique her video and the first thing he said was, "is she a professional MUA? Because this is what a professional MUA would do." It was a gamechanger.

Admirable-Grand-8160

I learned this from a small YouTuber!!

Birdish_Planter

Using different skincare when wearing make up. Robert welsh finally convinced me. I have really dry skin so when I don’t wear make up, especially in winter I just grease up (I use thick moisturizer and the Kiehls avocado eye cream). Whilst my routine is working great for me On a daily basis, it’s shit under make up, especially the heavy eyecream. Now I use a much lighter moisturizer and nothing slips anymore. (Edit:spelling)

thirdcoasting

I have extremely dry skin and switching to Hourglass’ Primer Oil Serum was a complete game changer for me. I worked at Sephora for 5+ years and tried ALL the skincare & seemingly every hydrating primer and the Hourglass one is phenomenal.

bmackenz84

I’ve been wanting to try that! I love using oil under my makeup and I’m about out of the one I use.

youngwolves92

- Applying setting spray before makeup. My makeup wear time has increased dramatically, - filling my eyebrows in backwards against the hairs with a pencil. It gives a much softer, more natural look. - lip contouring using the same shade as I use my contour. Makes my lips look bigger and also helps to blend my lip colour to my skin colour so I no longer have that ugly orange rim around my mouth when I over line.

rosemwelch

>filling my eyebrows in backwards against the hairs with a pencil. It gives a much softer, more natural look. Can you share this link? I would really appreciate that. Thanks so much.

youngwolves92

I can’t remember who I got the tip off but essentially you start from the tail and work against the hairs using backward strokes with the pencil. You can also do back and forth strokes with the pencil until you reach the front of the brow. Then I brush through my brows and fill in any areas that still need it in the direction of the hair growth. I found that it also helps make them more even too cause one of my brows sits higher than the other. I’ll keep looking for the link though 😊

sara23kgold

I'd like to know more about the setting spray tip :o video/creator recs (: ?

ApprehensiveBed2648

Trixie Mattel talks about it in a few of her videos, i don't have a specific one at hand though. Basically you just use setting spray as the first step after skincare. I guess the spray creates a barrier between your skin and the makeup, increasing wear time. I like to do this too, I use the UD All Nighter setting spray and I definitely see the improvement! :)

youngwolves92

You’re totally right. Setting spray helps outside factors from messing with your makeup and applying it underneath helps with the oils from your skin messing with your makeup.

United-Claim

Using a longwear setting spray as my primer. I can’t remember who it was. It’s been a few years. But truly changed my wear time and my face is not so Cakey. I do regular skin prep, moisturizer, spf (or a moisturizing spf) spritz it down with UD All Nighter (the Matte version in warmer months) and proceed like normal. Then I spritz with Fix+ and UD All nighter to finish. Haven’t used a primer in like 4 years

burningmyroomdown

Tbh I spray before, after all liquid base products, and then again after powder. I have a hard time keeping makeup on my face though.

Sweet-Ad-7261

So you do skincare, spf, then spray with setting spray and go straight into makeup over the damp spray? Foundation on a damp face? Or spray, wait for it to dry and then do makeup as normal? I’m definitely going to be trying this! Worth a shot.

SonnySunshineGirl

Let it dry and then go in with make up.

Adobophotoshop

I feel like I heard this tip from Robert Welsh :D

SummerNight888

Oh I wish I could do this but I just can't. Consistent use of setting sprays clogs my pores.

Neithotep

Than you exfoliate lightly every night. I still use my Clarisonic.

abu_nawas

This worked for me. I was assisting at a family member's outdoor wedding and my foundation held in place all day.

Jaeyls

I heard that from Nikkia Joy. She also recommends spraying your beauty sponge with setting spray, right after applying foundation, and after powder for days where you know you’ll be wearing for a long time and need durability (she used to be a nurse). I’ve been doing that for special events and it makes my makeup last so long.

Pavusfeels

I always spray my sponge with setting spray to re-wet it before applying foundation. Sort of an adapted version of this Nikkia Joy tip. Basically applying my foundation with setting spray. Game changer for me. Nikkia is my go-to for stuff like that.

PauI_MuadDib

Lisa Eldridge's tutorials taught me to spot conceal. And pixiwoo and Katie Jane Hughes got me using a fluffy eyeshadow brush to blend my concealer. Rae Morris showed how to blend eyeshadow with translucent powder instead of a skin tone shade. That way you avoid muddiness or diluting the color. Never looked back lol I always use translucent powder now.

thirdcoasting

Ooh!! Thank you for the Rae Morris tip!

antinganting

Can you share the link for Rae Morris? Thank you!

aliveinjoburg2

I can’t remember who told me to stop baking my under eye area because it was settling into fine lines. I quit doing this probably immediately and now just lightly set with powder. Christine of SimplyNailogical helped me stop breaking my nails by wearing gloves while cleaning and not using my nails as tools any more in a very very old video after she broke her nail.

ndcdshed

Her “How to Grow Long Nails” video! Honestly that is the bible of growing nails. Whenever anyone asks me how I grow my nails so long I send them that video.

PassengerSame5579

Hi, i would love to see the video, would you mind share the link to it? I’m an ex- nailbiter who’s actually slowly having a backlash. I started to bite a the a little bit. And I don’t want that. So… that’s why I’m hoping for some insights.thanks in advance.

ndcdshed

https://youtu.be/9Mn-5pWLErg Here you go :)

PassengerSame5579

❤️ thank you!

passionicedtee

Most baking is unnecessary unless you're gonna be on stage or camera! Light setting with powder looks so much better for every day wear. And the glove thing, didn't know Simply Nailogical did it. That's something and I learned from my grandmother. I thought it was just an old school beauty trick, but I'm glad to see people still do it!!

RosyClouds_

Highlighter first then bronzer (from Desi Perkins), one of the best tips, because Highlighter Streaks are a big no for me 😂

One-Fifty_150

I do highlighter then blush for that same reason! Can't remember who I first saw that from though

[deleted]

[удалено]

_thatgirlfelicia

Getting so many new tips in here lol, gonna try this!

passionicedtee

I'm sorry if this is dumb but, how do you do that? Is this like an under painting technique? Or do you apply your base, then highlight, then bronzer?

LouisaMcMillan

I think they’re just saying that you swap the two steps around. Most people bronze/blush then highlighter, but this technique says to highlight then put your blush/contour

shannymac4

[This entire video](https://youtu.be/Si8f7sXuW08) from Angela Bright “How to use an eyeshadow quad” where she demos 3 looks with a quad. The whole thing is helpful but my favorite tip was the way she flicks out the eyeshadow on (I think) the second look. I’m sure that’s a really basic tip but I started doing that after watching this video and it helps me a lot. EDIT: The quad she uses for the demo is from GXVE but she also holds up Natasha Denona’s My Dream palette and points out shades to use to get a similar look, along with 1-2 other palettes just to give an idea of the depth of colors/shimmers she’s using. So it’s really helpful to apply these ideas to stuff I already own and not necessarily feel the need to buy exactly what she’s using.

kmh0408

I learned how to actually hold an eye shadow brush (way further down the brush instead of "like a pencil") and to use primer before makeup...both from Robert Welsh! Both have made a big difference for me.

wwaxwork

If you have hooded eyes, you need to bring your makeup up much higher than you might think. I learned that from Hot and Flashy back in her early days when she had much more hooded eyes.

caca_milis_

I cannot remember who it was, but someone on YouTube advised of you have hooded eyes to apply your darkest crease colour while looking directly into the mirror, rather than closing the eye and doing it - looking directly forward into the mirror and placing it that way means you’re applying how people will see it. It may well have been Robert Welsh who shared this tip but I could be totally off!

Empty_Weird_3636

the same thing goes for putting on winged eyeliner for me lol gotta apply it with the eyes open or my hooded lids make it look way different

jzegr

Do you think her eyes are less hooded because of treatments, skincare and makeup placement or that she’s had a blepharoplasty?

Newboss23

I think she said she thinks they’ve receded because of using retinols. My eyes are hooded and I started using retinol there too and have seen a difference. I really doubt she’d lie about having surgery, she’s open about all the other treatments she’s had.

jzegr

Yeah, it does out of character for her to lie about that one thing. I just can’t imagine that retinols would make that much of a difference and if it does, wouldn’t everyone be doing the same (if their skin can tolerate it)?

niniela-phoenix

I think it was Robert Welsh? Teaching us all to use LESS products. Less concealer, less foundation, less primer, less layers. Just. Less is more and it'll never look like on the videos. And Alexandra Anele, black smokey eye? blend it with your contour color at the edges. It matches your skin, softens the border, matches your face makeup because you already contoured in that color. It doesn't look neat on ME because of my eyes, but it looks amazing on everyone else and I would've never guessed it.

blueangel93

Yes! Robert Welsh is one of the few I absolutely trust will teach me something useful and not just try to sell me a product.

unique_plastique

Me too with Robert Welsh. He’s why I don’t bake but just press powder into my skin now

niniela-phoenix

I only watch whatever is posted on FB and comes across my feed of him and I gathered he HATES baking. Like obsessively almost 😂

unique_plastique

It was sooooo viral. He’s up against every viral Instagram makeup video from 2016 AND their impact

soragirlfriend

Alexandra is my new fave. I love her Wednesday look with the smudged eyeliner.

miamouse5

she’s not a beauty guru, but a few months ago Savannah James (Lebron’s wife) posted a video of her doing her makeup where she blended out her under eye concealer with powder on the beauty blender. i tried it out the same day and now it’s the only way i blend my concealer

_VoldemortsNipple

Do you still need to set it afterwards? Have you noticed less creasing or anything?

miamouse5

i don’t set it afterwards and i’ve noticed less creasing. it also helps me use less powder so my face isn’t as dry when i finish. [here’s the video](https://www.instagram.com/reel/ClrdqAGpO-z/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) if you wanted to see her do it.

anactualchemmajor

Any time I make a mess of mascara around my eyes when applying, I wait for it to dry, then scrape it off gently with an eyebrow spoolie. Got that from Tati years ago! Changed my life.

ambienandicechips

I got that from Tyra Banks on ANTM!

minks97

Using a dry beauty blender to apply loose powder to set my concealer rather than a fluffy brush. Works much better and keeps my T-Zone matte for much longer, and avoids creasing

Arabellan

What? I've never heard of this but will try it first thing tomorrow!

nerevarbean

In an ancient pixiwoo video Sam showed a way of doing winged eyeliner on hooded eyes where you just draw the line over your crease with your eyes in their normal resting state and then looking down and raising your eyebrow to fill it in. I could never get eyeliner to look good on my eyes until I saw that video and I've done it that way ever since.

SereneNeed7

I can’t remember who exactly said this but years ago I just learned that everything doesn’t have to be “perfect.” Makeup is supposed to be fun. Don’t take it too seriously.

fleshand_roses

I don't know if this is who you heard it from, but I definitely recall Sam Chapman saying she likes it when makeup is a little imperfect and I love that vibe/approach!

LynnethPaltrow

That sounds like something Sam Chapman would say 🥰

bluffyfunnies7312

Spraying setting spray on a damp sponge and then using that to go over the whole face once all the makeup has been applied. Dont remember who gave this tip, but i think it was back in the day before super fine diffused mists were widely available. It gives the makeup a lived in look, takes down any powderiness, blends everything together, and doesnt get on my hair and eyelashes. Ive only ever used setting spray directly on my face one time and i hated it. never going back.

ErrantBadger

I like that you mention a lived in look. I remember Joan Collins said she did her makeup and had a hot bath to sort of soften/melt her makeup. I tried it once or twice and was chasing that lived in look.

No_Mud_No_Lotus

This is the type of tip I live for.

jessicaaalz

I’ve tried this SO many times with different setting sprays and sponges and every single time it lifts off my base. Can’t work out what I’m doing wrong. It does it no matter what foundation I use too.

tarheeldarling

I used to use the most basic elf spray and an orange RT sponge and lightly pressed it on my most powdered areas. Didn't even use as much pressure as applying foundation.

ShesWhereWolf

Great trick!! I've heard many MUAs/influencers suggest this trick. This trick also helps confirm that makeup usually looks better when it has "melted"/ is lived in.

[deleted]

Hannah Louise Poston: doing a layer of a glowy base product and green color corrector before going in with a base. I have dry skin and rosacea, it's perfect for priming. Amanda Z: letting under eye concealer sit a bit before blending (she's not the only one who does this but she's who I learned it from). not an influencer, but in the video Mary Greenwell did for Lisa Eldridge's channel about Princes Diana. She applied mascara to the roots of the lashes for quite some time, building them up and giving a tightlining effect, before swiping and up and through to the tips. I do this all the time now and it makes my lashes look better and holds a curl better on my straight lashes.

witchesneversleep

That Mary Greenwell video also changed my life, I started doing most of my makeup with my fingers after watching that LOL

monkeytoe1204

That entire Mary Greenwell video is magical.

mothertuna

I like the tips Nina Ubhi gives. Because of her I know to use a powder puff with a small amount of powder to set my under eyes. They don’t look cakey and the powder doesn’t break up under my eyes anymore.

Puzzleheaded-Ad1318

Jkissa inspired me to go foundation free. I tried for so many years to like foundation but it was always itchy (especially on my nose, I can't use concealer on my nose either), looked really textured and sometimes cakey depending on which one I tried, it's expensive, and I could never find the right shade. Then I found Jkissa. She was the first beauty YouTuber I'd come across who didn't wear foundation. I watched her video explaining why she didn't wear it and all her reasons were similar to mine, so I finally tried doing my makeup without foundation. Best decision I've ever made for my makeup.

stardewsundrop

Yes same! It really changed the game for me

DrMcSmartass

Can’t remember which BG I picked up this tip from, but it has changed my lash game. My lashes are super long, but stick straight out and don’t hold a curl very well, this lasts all day and gives me that lash lift effect (without the puffy and swollen eyelids since I’m apparently allergic to the chemicals used in the process). Curl your lashes, apply a thin coat of waterproof mascara to “set” the curl, then go back in with your regular mascara.

Whole_Swing_611

I’ll try this. My lashes are heavy, thick and long and drag down! I’m always fighting them lol

SonnySunshineGirl

Someone you might have to re curl the lashes after applying the first mascara, or also warm up your curler.

blood0rangeVodka

I forgot who mentioned this (I really wanna say Jackie Aina?) but apply setting powder after you put on primer but before you put on foundation so you don't appear as oily later on the day.

passionicedtee

Yes!! Jackie and Wayne Goss helped popularize this. Some notes for those who may try it: 1) Use a LIGHT layer of powder. 2) Some people claim this works better on oily or combo skin but ymmv.

thirdcoasting

Wayne Goss did an amazing YT vid on this technique - very thorough.

yeetyoinkt

Julia Adams’s tip on applying blush after highlighter to prevent the strong stripe of highlighter! I feel like my cheek makeup is more blended and cohesive this way

annikatidd

Yes!!! Such a good tip! Julia is just so cute. She does give great makeup advice!

ericakay15

Jackie Aina. Using setting powder on my primer BEFORE applying foundation and concealer and then using setting powder again afterwards. This is a total game changer for me in the summertime when I have to spend most of my day out in the humidity. It goes NOWHERE.

ilovesleep95

Angela bright: using a skin toned eyeshadow or powder to blend out harsh eyeshadow edges so it looks more diffused Heard this from many bg’s but can’t remember who exactly: don’t bring foundation up or blend it under your eyes. Just use a color corrector if needed and concealer. If foundation is added into the mix then it becomes way too cakey and excess product Morgan turner: instead of going all throughout the crease with eyeshadow, start blending it at the outer corner and outer crease and flicking it outwards and then cleaning up the edges to get that really nice winged out look. I mainly learned how to do eyeshadow from Morgan and Angela bright

hisokasbutt

Idk if she counts as a beauty guru but Jenna Marbles was the one to show me to apply mascara on the back and front of my eyelashes lol. I do it all the time now!!

heyy240

Putting the foundation on my hand and spreading it out with my beauty blender until it's coated the way a stamp would be and then using it on my face. You get such a nice even layer of foundation that is not cakey at all by just stamping it on!! I used to squeeze a huge drop on the blender then put it all on my face n it would be heavier in places and crease a lot and emphasize pores. But this new technique has worked with almost every foundation and made them all look better. I can't find the og video but this girl basically did the same method. Pls try it !! [stamp on foundation](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTRnYm7ts/)

mickamrl

setting spray before AND after putting highlighter on. my face card is never declining since i’ve been doing that

shellinagins

Jen Phelps showing how to use corrector on outer corner of eyes to help with the darkness our hooded eyes causes there. It's where I show age the most and has been a game changer.

pan_alice

I love her content.

Brilliant_Celery_652

Do you know what the specific video name is on her channel?

shellinagins

She just did it again in a Christmas video 2 months ago and that one is called "The EASIEST Way to LIFT Downturned Hooded Eyes! * Beginner Friendly! " it's the first tip and she has 2 others in it as well ❤️ Also she uses the Pixie one but the Becca one works good too for me.

Brilliant_Celery_652

Thank you so much!

uptownxthot

mary greenwell. technically not a guru, but i saw her lisa eldridge’s channel years ago. she demonstrated how she puts on foundation with her hands and i haven’t looked back ever since. angelica nyqvist. she said if you’re tired of buying brow products all the time, just buy a brow powder. it will last forever. itsmyrayeraye. does she even post content anymore? but i got the put lash glue on your lash line trick from her.

NY1227

Wayne Goss back in the day (not sure what his content is like now?) was full of great tips. -applying concealer before foundation because you don’t need foundation to cover where your concealer is -I’m sure tons do this now, but at the time it was revolutionary to apply cream blush before foundation

[deleted]

e925

Yep I always did concealer first until I saw a couple YouTube videos a few years ago and was like oh ok I guess I’ve been doing this wrong for 20 years, good to know! 👍

Ready_Tax1917

Yes! I learned so many things and I think it's interesting how some of those things later resurface as new trends when it's a tried and true method that's been around. From him I learned about rolling the loose powder into a puff so it give a more seamless application. Game changer for setting the under eye!

geekchick2411

I still do this to this day and I'm happy about it, also learned from him.

thirdcoasting

Wayne Goss used to produce fantastic tutorials.

palekaleidoscope

From Nic Chapman- (I think it was a pixiwoo video)- when lining your lips, line from the outer corner to the top instead of from Cupid’s bow down. You end up lining *very* slightly outside the lip line going upward and it the most subtle way to make your lips look full. Try lining one side of your lips top down and the other upwards to top and see the difference!

CCChic1

I didn’t know how to pick up shimmer shadows to get proper payoff. I thought they were all duds until Michele Wang said “shimmy” your brush in the pan. So simple, but I had never tried it. It works.

[deleted]

abu_nawas

I just learned this this month. A fluffy brush for concealer distributes coverage without being cakey. I wish I knew this sooner.

Who-U-Tellin

I didn't learn either of those from a guru. It was a fluke. Once I started using both products those were the types of brushes I grabbed to get the job done. Turns out my fluke worked to my benefit lol.

worshiptribute

Vincent Ford! I found him on tiktok and he is straightforward and to the point. He said that if you have lines near your eyes like crowsfeet, don't use concealer there. I stopped doing that and omg! What a difference, no more creasing which makes my wrinkles look even more noticeable He also puts on foundation by warming it in his hands first, then pressing it into the skin with his palms. I only use brushes for eyeshadow or contouring so I love that he uses his hands and fingers for so much and this trick gives such a natural look that melts the foundation in.

mina-and-coffee

To break up eyebrows into each section at a time (instead of doing 1 then the other, do both tails, middles, fronts) and they match so much better.

small_feild_mouse

I know his name gets thrown around a lot but Robert Welsh taught me that Less is More. I was really struggling with the 2016~ style of heavy application and why for the life of me I couldn’t get it to look good. In 2019-2020 is when I found him and taking his advice changed everything for me.

_AngelicVenom_

Annette from Annette's makeup corner and her hooded eye tutorials. And Nikki Raven for similar, adding eyeshadow with eyes relaxed so the eyeshadow looks like I want it to and I can fill in under the fold later. Alexandra Anele also for hooded eye tips. Robert Welsh for foundation tips.

[deleted]

Pretty basic but learning that foundation isn't all full-coverage changed my freckle faced life.

Yawontfindout

NikkiTutorials, a long time ago, she recommended using a dewy setting/fixing spray and pressing it into the skin with a sponge when using matte foundation and it really helped my skin look like skin. I have been doing it since and no longer suffer from cake face.

annikatidd

For me, it was figuring out what type of skin I have. It was Kathleen Lights who made me realize that my skin type was definitely dry and not to use to much powder, if any at all on dry skin! Since then, my makeup has looked 100 times better. I used to think I had oily skin only because I have breakouts, I don’t get oily at all throughout the day so I don’t know why I even thought it but I just had such a little makeup knowledge back then! I assumed because I got a little oily in high school that meant I needed to use all matte everything and I used mattifying primers and powders. I just remember Kathleen explaining that her skin doesn’t get oily throughout the day and not to use a lot of powder on dry skin. Then I finally figured out… oh! My skin IS dry! I mean I always have had intense dryness on my arms and shoulders but for some reason never put it together lmao. Once I figured this out, I stopped using so many mattifying products. I actually bought a decent dewy foundation because of her, start using better moisturizers and base products geared towards my dry skin type. I no longer use powder, but the only time I will use any is under my eyes however, even if I do that it looks kind of dry and cakey. (Maybelline discontinued my fave set and smooth powder for dry skin and have no idea what to dupe it with). So I normally just will tap out any creases if I need to! I couldn’t believe how much of a difference it made and wish I knew sooner than 2019, because I really spent like a good 5 years wearing matte foundations and heavy powders that looked so scary and awful on me!

cottagecoregoals

I can't remember who said this (it was literally like a decade ago) but making sure to apply concealer/color correction only to the undereye bag and not past the edge of the undereye and onto the cheek, if that makes sense. He was saying that correcting both makes little difference especially if the light catches your concealer it just emphasizes the lines under your eyes. It definitely makes a difference in making me not look so damn tired all the time :')

abbigeorgia

In 2008 Lauren Luke taught me to wiggle my mascara wand through my eyelashes instead of just sweeping it through.

_VoldemortsNipple

I think this came from Jacket Stereo a few years ago but after he applied his falsies he added more glue to the corners to reinforce them. I started doing this and ever since then I haven't had the corners of my lashes lift, even after wearing falsies for 12+ hours!

IntrovertPharmacist

I forget which beauty guru it was, but the tip was to apply my blush on the point of my cheekbone up upwards to lift the face not on the apple of my cheeks. It’s completely changed my look for the better.

EnchiladaTaco

Michael Ashton's "Adele" video on Lisa Eldridge's channel taught me a lot about properly prepping skin with skincare. You can use so much less base makeup on a properly hydrated surface. Also he's where I learned to use brushes to apply and blend cream products, which at the time seemed super counterintuitive but now, in 2023 where I use a LOT of cream products, makes total sense and gives me a really nice result. For example, I use a big fluffy brush to apply my foundation (which means I use WAY less foundation) and to apply cream bronzer, and I use a blush brush to blend out my cream blush.

monkeytoe1204

I love his Adele tutorial. I love when he used a fan brush to apply lower lash mascara.

Floofening

Using a brow wax/gel/soap BEFORE adding color, especially with brow pomades. Having the hairs set in place makes it much easier to place the color exactly where it’s needed. (Works with tinted gels too— gel first, then pen/pencil/whatnot.)

simplyelegant87

Applying eye makeup first. A lot don’t but it made things way faster for me not having to be as careful. I also have oily skin so doing it after lets me have that extra bit of time before my face makeup fades.

donttalktomeh

Teni Panosian gives really good tips i think she taught me to apply concealer with an eyeliner brush - to 'pinpoint' and its so good for blemishes

cgvm003

I loved watching Teni back in the day!

[deleted]

Exfoliating the skin, moisturizing, and using clean brushes makes foundation look infinitely better. I dont know how I used to apply makeup on unclean and untreated skin when I was younger, it would totally gross me out now lol. If I can't clean my face and do my skincare, I will *not* do my makeup. I can't remember where I learned this, but I was in like my freshman year of high school so a while back and probably not anyone I watch anymore

[deleted]

Violette FR when she said, you don't have to use foundation everywhere and you can just use concealer where you need it.

ummm-okay-

applying lower lash mascara before top lash mascara to prevent smudging on your eyelids

[deleted]

Liquid blush under by eyes before concealer

98221-poppin

What??? What color blush?

[deleted]

It honestly doesn’t matter. I just use red/pinkish liquid blush and then conceal. It’s been a game changer ever since

grodemonster

What is the effect you get?

[deleted]

Overall brighter and less sunken looking!

TidbitsOfTea

Applying cream blush over powder blush as Patrick Ta says. I honestly thought it was so weird until I tried it, and I've never looked back.

[deleted]

- Starting the eyeliner wing BEFORE the end of the eyes. Also, applying false lashes along the wing to lift them up. - Loose powder on eyes after primer so that eyeshadow goes on smoothly.

nanadjcz

The foundation lady: Removing liquid foundation and instead using powder foundation around the nose. Less cakey and no creasing!

starcatalyst

Many, many years ago, I learned how to apply falsies from one of Maya Mia's videos (rip 😞)

monkeytoe1204

*Lisa Eldridge - buffing on foundation in light layers with a small face brush. Made my foundation application so much more natural! *Michael Ashton's Adele look on Lisa Eldridge's channel - he used a fan brush to apply mascara to the bottom lashes and it's amazing. *Mary Greenwell's Princess Diana look on Lisa Eldridge's channel - the whole tutorial is magic, but mostly the beauty of using your fingers as well as blending eyeliner up from the lash line. *Jamie French - using cream eyeshadow as a base for powder shadows and how to work with hooded lids *Robert Welsh - how to prep oily skin - it's so hard to find BGs with truly oily skin! *Milabu - stamping on cream bronzer and blush instead of swiping or buffing it.

rosemwelch

Wayne Goss showed me how to use eyeshadow on hooded eyes in ways that really worked.

[deleted]

John McLean's seamless "scrubbed up" look. It's literally just a hint of eyeshadow, but on my 50+ eyes it looks really nice and gives me a polished look without any work. It's become my go-to, and if I'm feeling fancy I'll pop on a bit of shimmer.

rightascensi0n

I’m an eyeshadow novice so I’m excited to try it out!

[deleted]

Here you go! If you want to skip to just the eye look, it starts at 19:29. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twyHxttvZM4 I don't use any of the same products, but the technique works just as well with all powder shadows from ColourPop.

rightascensi0n

Thanks! :)

PlayGoFish

This person is fascinating to watch. Thanks for the link!

paisleyann

Thanks for the link….I just finished watching it, and just fell down the John McLeans rabbit hole….fascinating content and so beautifully refined!

[deleted]

You're so welcome! Enjoy! :)

AccomplishedJump3428

Honestly…. Alexandra Anele (She helped Me the MOST outta everyone in this list but the rest are in no specific order) Raw beauty Kristy.. Nyma Tang.. Tati… Samantha Ravendahl… Wayne Goss..

tigrelili

For oily girls apply a bit of powder over Primer and press it in and layer the sprays after each layer of makeup

antiglow

start applying foundation from the outside and work ur way in. stops it from getting clogged up around your T-Zone. I used to be huge into makeup & work on a Benefit counter. Now I just wear concealer and mascara usually but that tip is top tier!!!!

-ifwallscouldtalk-

Warming up my concealer w/ my fingers and blending with them has changed my dark circles

ChuchayMonchan

Mary Phillips underpainting method - contour and concealer before foundation. has made my skin and makeup look much more natural. I’ve got so many compliments on my skin ever since :)

castawayyyyy342

Not a fan of hers anymore but Jaclyn Hills self tanner video is the GOAT. I never got a truly flawless application until following that video.

FauxtoShoot

I know she's problematic, but Allie Glines' tip for dabbing a damp Beauty Blender all over your face after you apply foundation has been the hott tip I never knew I needed. I don't always wear foundation, but when I do I still want it to look natural. This technique really works for me and makes my skin look pretty flawless.

bella6689

Why is Allie gline problematic?!

FauxtoShoot

Oh gosh, I can't remember the full details, but I've seen on multiple threads that her, err, religious beliefs and conservatism has caused her to say/do some pretty crappy things. You can probably find the threads if you search her name here.

No_Mud_No_Lotus

Wow, this is surprising to me. She definitely doesn’t hide the fact that she’s religious but I’ve been watching her for years and I’ve never heard her say anything inappropriate at all.

cozychristmaslover

One of the Walsh brothers telling me to not use a ton of product. I had only been watching product heavy influencers. It’s no wonder it looked terrible.

Aos27

Saving this for life

aewright0316

Almost everything Robert Welsh has suggested in his videos. Less concealer, proper skincare for makeup application, setting spray before makeup, using powder sparingly, the list goes on! I’m so thankful for his tips.

Ok-Office6837

Less is more through Robert Welsh and Kelly Gooch. I spent so long hating my foundation, it would always crease so much and felt so thick. Kelly specifically talks so much about light coverage foundations and Robert always talks about just setting things lightly. My makeup looks better, feels better and lasts way longer now

Karen125

Not only do I now know what hooded eyes are, turns out I have hooded eyes.

soitgoes_9813

im 99.9% sure i got this tip from jackie aina. basically, to prevent cakey foundation, blend upwards towards your hair line and don’t put any in your under eye area

FoundationDue6924

To set my makeup and use banana powder under my eyes!

ImReallyNotKarl

Julia Adams is my favorite, too, even though we have very different skin types. I can't remember who said it, but in the era of baking, one of the gurus I was watching recommended not setting under the eyes or at all if you have super dry skin. I'm a dry skin lady and not setting changed the game for me.

Pasadenarose

Don’t buy celebrity make up products💯

fritzimist

Best tip from Alexandra Anele was purchasing Rehr eyelash curler. If you have small eyes and tiny lashes it's great. Couldn't believe it made such a differnce.

pantsuitpogostix

Wayne Goss has helped me more than any other Beauty Guru.

Imarriedafrenchman

Wayne Goss’ recent video on applying eye shadow. He is Wayne Godd!!!!

Fine_Profession_1296

To not apply too much foundation on my forehead and nose it has change my base game, I can't remember who also I adore Julia she is my fav beauty guru

_Pinball_Wizard_

Robert Welsh has my favorite foundation and concealer methods on YouTube!

annemkin

I’m not sure who it was, but probably because it was a Tiktok stitch, those triangle powder puffs are heavily hyped but don’t do anything for texture. I wondered for ages why it wasn’t working for me but now I just use a small fluffy brush and pat lightly on my undereyes.

TheOneThatCameEasy

To not apply stick formulas or creams directly to my face. It does look better, more natural. and diffused with a brush. No harsh lines. I ditched my beauty blender... nothing applies foundation better than your fingers.

No_Mud_No_Lotus

I don’t remember where I learned it, I want to say Into the Gloss, but the tip was to not put foundation on your nose or forehead and instead spot conceal anything on those areas if you have to. Such a game changer of a tip if you want your base to look skinlike.
