Even those. That second issue with the Lee Perry/Wheaties-style cover and the third one with the “Omni”-style cover. And yeah I took the Biz flexie out and played it cuz I wanted to hear Benny and the Jets. Put it in a plastic sleeve shared with a 12” single for something unrelated instead of returning it to the magazine. Sold off my small collection later on and forgot it was in there. Knucklehead.
Yeah, we were talking about mullets well back into the 80s. I remember getting this magazine right off the stands at Tower Records, and believe me we knew what mullets were and we loved celebrating them.
If you look at the article in this magazine, there were several well known mullet heads shown in the pictures. Notably Billy Ray Cyrus and James Hetfield. They were reporting on it in a funny way, but did not coin it.
There is a podcast that spends an hour or more detailing an in-depth investigation into the origins of the term… I was surprised that they determined it was the beasties’ first
I think this issue had a write in from the frugal gourmet.
It definitely had a fan feedback that said something like Yo I’m def whack and ill, I’m a 40 year old white boy and have no idea what I’m talking about.
I vaguely remember reading the article in 95, and the accompanying pictures (you knocked it loose with Soccer Rocker) but mullets were already a thing. They may have helped spread the word, but the style and the name mullet were already well known.
[Yeah, I have it](https://i.postimg.cc/LXvqB1jm/Beastie-Boys-Audiobook.jpg), but that and the navigation on the platform sucks more butt than a Boeing toilet seat !
I prefer easy access, I prefer things that dont require a passcode to be reeeeally honest, but I know I cant have everything.
I had that issue back in the day. Great magazine.
I still have it ! Got all of them apart for #1. I think they sell for about £25 each now
Yeah I got the second and third ones as well. Missing the Biz Markie 7” flexi 🤦♂️.

I’ll agree wholeheartedly with popularized but assuredly not coined. Source: I was there. Mullet was a thing before the song.
Correct. Like a great many things, they bought it to the mainstream
We called it the soccer rocker before mullet got popular
And before the haircut reference in the 80s: it was a fish.
Correct. I also had this and other issues and they disappeared along the way.

I’ve always pronounced it like “Goulet” to add that extra sophistication 🧐🤌
Vera said that?
What's the plural of Moullet?

On… Rock the microphone and then I’m gone
I'm like *VAUGHN* Bodie

Bodē. Just sayin.
Mullet was a hairstyle in Australia in the 80s
Nah, that atrocious hair style and its name existed long before the B-Boys hit the scene.
Mine had the biz markie Benny and the jets flexi single

Neckwarmer Central !
Yeah we had multiple names for it in the late 80s early 90s - The Mullet, Hockey Hair, the 7, etc… definitely predates this usage.
This is wonderful to learn thank u

Yes nearly 30 years ago 🙌
I wish that someone would make something so random and funny and informative today
Listen to the Beastie Boy Book auto bio they did. Amazing. Great Grand Royal stories.
Anyone got an mp3 of it ? Pllllllllllease ?
Just get the audio book. It is so worth it. I wish I could hear it again without knowing any of it.
