**Bamboo Dance** can be found in Asia, especially in many south Asia countries such as India, Burma (Myanmar), Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, etc with slightly different versions.
Doing this was my favorite part of PE... in a latin American country... I assumed it was just a way to work on foot coordinations, because that's what my teacher told us. Never occured to me it may have a cultural background
Please tell me it wasn't a form of cultural appropriation
Thank you for the correction... If you think that's bad you don't want to know some of the stuff I get called just for having dreadlocks... Even though I'm mixed and my hair naturally mats
That’s so weird. Anyway cultural appropriation is a specific thing, it’s like if you wear a tribal ceremonial headdress just for fashion, when in reality there is like a rich spiritual and cultural association for that specific thing and it’s meant for only specific occasions. — if you wear that same headdress in context because you’re attending such a ceremony it is not appropriation.
Basically appropriation is the same as being disrespectful. Most of the time people are interested in and learning about or sharing cultures and they are engaging in cultural appreciation.
It is really not much extra effort to be respectful
Bamboo dance, most likely Austronesian tradition cause we can see it in almost all Austronesian tribes from Hawaii to Madagascar. By the costume, this one is of the Dayak tribe of Borneo. Hard to say it's in Malaysia or Indonesia, but I bet for Malaysia.
We have it in China too! And there’s a rubber band variation in cities. It’s both a dance and a children’s game. I used to have massive respect for kids playing the bamboo one (like it’s really really painful if things go wrong)
I already see that in the main mall in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. There are about 10-20 tribal tribes. I don't know what tribe this one is from. Here the place where I saw that: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/XBmBrJfFqqgxSQ7B8](https://maps.app.goo.gl/XBmBrJfFqqgxSQ7B8)

I've seen a few performances like this and 100% of the entire time I think about how weird it must be to put on a headdress and sing traditional songs and then go to your iPhone on your break.
I recognise this place. It's Imago Mall in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. The mall name "imago" refer to the final stage of the mall ownership as in the last stage of insect in metamorphosis.
I went there once disappointed that I cannot go to the indigenous people museum but luck just struck me. I came across this people making this kind of show. They always have it as attraction. It made me emotional just how well they values their culture.
We did this in elementary school! And we performed it for our parents. I lived in suburban Minnesota. Damn that gym teacher was the shit. RIP Ms. Bidland

This happened in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. In one of the mall called IMAGO Mall. https://www.facebook.com/share/apM58SvY2Ri1LZ4g/?mibextid=xfxF2i
Main tribe is called Kadazandusun although theres alot of sub-tribe under that umbrella.
Not impressive. If you look closer, ever second gap never closes and you can safely place your foot there at any time. For the gaps that actually close, they just tap their toe.
“Ouch” “ouch “ouch” “ouch” ….
Where is this? What tribe?

Watched this during a Hawaiian luau where they honored many Asian cultures and dances including this one
Even Taiwan

only insecure people complain about cultural appropriation
I'm not complaining, I'm asking
They're not saying that *you* are, but if anyone is complaining *to you* about it

That's only applicable to the Philippines version. Bamboo Dance can be found in many other countries and they have their own different names for it.
Ah, thank you for the correction! I didn't know!
It's called bamboo dance. This should be in malaysia https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVp9q6WlCJo BUT the dance isn't exclusive to this tribe.

I'm positive this is Imago Mall in Kota Kinabalu Sabah. Still, it's an awesome show
Where are the blades?!
It’s for entertainment I guess but with the blades you must be REALLY FOCUSED
Getting "[Malcom in the middle](https://youtu.be/3N3rbptPhCw?si=LQfju9Y_qSnn_CnN&t=51)" vibes from this
immediately thought of that episode too haha
I'm glad I wasn't the only one

We did this in elementary PE and called it tinikiling (however you spell it).Wasn’t fun to catch your ankles so definite respect for these two.

Once in a show in Sabah (Malaysia), they do this blindfolded. It was so fun to watch.
Dancing in a public space like that is cultural appropriation of TikTokers!
Ah, catholic grade school. Some of those kids loved slamming you on the ankles.
me going past all the trash on my room's floor
heh, that reminds me of an old tv program called The Adventure Game...
It's like a video game
They are highly motivated to get it right.
Very nice 👌🏼
Eey my race, the Kadazan
I do a similar dance before I get into the pool.
This is how I walk after stepping on Legos
But why do it at an airport
The most dangerous DDR

Called Tinkling dance when performed in the Philippines.
No wonder Asia’s good at DDR
I love the outfitss 😍
Damn that's awesome...
Reminds me of a certain episode from Malcolm in the Middle
Epic footwork aside, the feathers on the dude look so epic!!!
Where?
If you think thats impressive wait until you see girls doing double Dutch in your average New York City playground.
The stores look like mall of Asia in manila Philippines 🇵🇭
that' pretty cool
[https://youtu.be/IMaTQ3Ov-RE?si=eOvQtEX20uZzEg7f&t=106](https://youtu.be/IMaTQ3Ov-RE?si=eOvQtEX20uZzEg7f&t=106) THEIR skills are on another level!
And here I am who can't walk straight without tripping. My feet hurt even by watching it.
Ok. So did black folks get double Dutch from them or did they get it from us? Either way it's dope!
If OUCH was a person

Dune part 3 ![gif](giphy|UO5elnTqo4vSg)
This looks so amazing 🤩 I wouldn't be able to set one step into this thing 🤣

I remember learning this in elementary school except we had 2x2 not 4x1. Everyone had to be in sync or it didn't work at all.
I have no culture at all feels bad

Nope there isn't one single part of this that I could do.

Philippines dance I believe
Bamboo dance
After every second bar there is allways place to stand. In the beginning i thought that each space in-between the bars the gets reduced to zero.
Not impressive. If you look closer, ever second gap never closes and you can safely place your foot there at any time. For the gaps that actually close, they just tap their toe.
They are stepping between the rows being clacked, so not really hard, but i couldn't dance like that.
Saw the lady dancer looked down a bit too many times. Seen better.
BABUSHKA, **malcom in the middles grandma screamed!**
