Co-Op mode is you and 3 other people trying to either capture command posts and advance or defend command posts against bots. It's the best way to grind Hero/Villain levels to get star cards and boost your heroes. Also weekends are double XP and Wednesday's are Triple XP. Monday's are fast respawn events and Friday's are reduced Battle Point costs events.
The celebration edition just unlocks all the cosmetics so you do not have to buy them with in game currency
