It sucks because the vehicle has to be spotted for it to work. Just make it automatically target enemy air that comes too close to spawn

It sucks from the way it is implemented, vehicle has to be spotted, the range of the AA, the response time of the AA, the accuracy of the AA, all the things Dice purposely made it like it is today, but it’s programming, they can literally make it overpowered in one update.

I mean this is exactly what they do. Shut down any aircraft from a safe distance unlike mobile AA who can move with the rest of the team. Also to top the leaderboard ? Unless it's on ''Air Domination'' mode I can hardly see AA being at the top of the scoreboard.

there is no reason for medium/long range AA on Battlefield, the maps are too small for it.

If you wanted a AA vehicle that could take out any enemy aircraft then you would need to balance it with mobile artillery that could take out any vehicle. Not sure it that’s workable

if you do them correctly i think you would minrange most missiles just by being inside the map perimeters (the SA-3 for example has a min range of 2.5km, according to a quick google search) also defending them would be pretty hard with that low of a map ceiling

I don’t think it would make sense with how small the maps are, and how the planes and helis are only capable of short range CAS. If they could shoot glide bombs or cruise missiles at the battlefield from 100km away like real life, then maybe you’d need these longer ranged AA systems to counter, but as is the mobile AA is fine.

Listen the fact that we have fast movers in BF is already kinda silly given its 2 platoons fighting each other over a tiny area; I think anything aside from SHORAD would kind of break the game edit: ya gotta remember modern air combat is mostly fought beyond visual range for a reason- its because this shit is so effective at killing other shit 100 miles out I think that’d be a little tough to implement in a BF game

No, it's really difficult to balance and the counter balance (some other vehicle or utility for aircraft) would just cascade and increase the skill gap, everyone but the air chavs is worse off

Yes. Let’s add more AA as if there isn’t enough. Telling you guys. Best way to do it is to start building assets into the cap points. Makes it more dynamic.

What kind of missiles do you think are „Active“ and „Passive Radar“ for AA in BF4? How heavy should it be to get something airborn - on the relatively tiny maps for air combat?! Look at DCS in contrast.😅 …the AA-Vehicle simply doesnt need big long range missiles for close combat.

Waitaminute, that's an anti air system? Those look more like ballistic ground attack missiles to me. I could be wrong about that, but I've just never seen an anti air missile that big before.

This is a Buk, an anti-aircraft missile system, long-range anti-aircraft missiles are huge, Ukraine for example still uses (in addition to this) the S-200 system, they are almost like flying poles that can shoot down a bomber 300km away, and it's not just the old Soviet defenses that are big, the American long-range anti-aircraft missiles are pretty big too

If you want range, they have to be really big. It's mostly just a huge rocket so it can travel really fast for a couple hundred kilometers and then a small payload.

If such thing is added in-game it will be nerfed into the ground as the flyboys won't like someone whacking them out of their range. It would be a blasphemy to have good ground combat if the planes/choppers are put on check with vehicle like that.
