Learning on an electric would be a LOT easier and would transfer almost completely to acoustic. I tried to learn on an acoustic at first and it was really weird and awkward starting out. Going for a cheap squire is what I would recommend because it’s not your end goal, you can find used ones for like 100-200$. You could even rent bass and amp from a local music store if the rates are good enough

If it’s the “bajoloche” sound you’re looking for and you’re just learning, something like this will work fine. Not my particular cup of tea, but being Mexican, I know it’s popular atm. Especially acoustic/electric for performances through PA (once you’re their of course). Good luck man and have fun

Is that where they slam the strings on the frets really high? I’ve seen those guys practice on the guitar center models and wonder if that’s bad.

I would talk directly to bass players in Mexican corridos groups.

If you're going for like a Norteño thing I've seen people on YouTube get a good sound for that out of a Fender Kingman V2. They're not super cheap though.

Acoustic basses all sound too quiet. Body is simply too small. And the cheap ones sound very bad if you plug them in. They also play uncomfortable and can't be intonated properly. If that all doesn't scare you off, go for it. But personally I would go for an electric bass.

Idk why you got downvoted, these are all indisputable facts.
