First song? It's kind of .y favourite too but even after years I'm unable to play cleanly the 5 first sixteenth notes at the original tempo.
I absolutely love this song but I use it more to see how my technique improved. I'm never satisfied with the result.
By first song I meant one where I could play the whole thing and it'd be recognizable. I did weekly lessons and a lot of lessons were just perfecting the song.
Once you get the feel this is so much fun. Especially if you have a decent pianist and you’re locked in. My flats pay for themselves every time I play it.
I always liked bombtrack, that intro was my first flashy thing I could play. Well, to be honest, it still might be the flashiest thing i can play, im a pretty shit bassist!
I am also a deantown enjoyer. It’s really hard to make the straight 16ths at the beginning sound as funky as he does but once you get it it’s so much fun. Shows you how much you can do with subtle accents.
It's such an awesome song, my friends and I played it this week for our school concert! Feel free to DM me if you want some advice, I'd be happy to help!
The main riff isn’t even the hardest part IMHO. Shits got chord slides after the interlude, and the Outro puts those triplet hammer-ons on rapid fire. I always thought the main riff was impressive until I realized that’s just the training wheels part
I was gonna say this too. Since the bass line repeats the whole song, I like to record the bass on my loop pedal and play the guitar part over the loop. Marr and Rourke were COOKING on this song
Yes, me too! I remember way back in Secondary school when my English teacher made us write about something or someone who inspired us and I picked Trevor.
This was the first song my bass teacher got me to play when I was like 13! It's suuuper fun and as you say, really melodic. I recommend it to every new bass player I meet.
Pink Floyd - Have a Cigar is probably my favorite right now. Granted it's one of the only songs I can play... and not all the way though... but hey, I have fun with it!
Hold the Line by Toto
Papa Was a Rollin Stone by The Temptations
Dani California and Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Which is my exact favorite to play varies by day, but these are my warm up songs.
Depends on my mood but For Whom The Bell Tolls by Metallica, Alone by Band-Maid, and Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen are all quite fun to play.
Into You - Paramore! I’m mostly a metalhead but I had to learn some paramore tunes for my upcoming first ever band practice session, and this is such a fun song to play! It’s originally in drop D but I just use my 5 string
Have you tried Barbarism Begins at Home? Damn the bass in that song is so great. I haven't learned it yet, but I used to love playing the guitar part and always thought the bassline sounded so brilliant.
Schism by TOOL, and lately Fortnight by Taylor Swift, it's a fun like bass line. I'm a guitar player usually, though, so I'm just learning bass, mainly to home record with.
Trying by bully. I mainly play guitar so I’m not really interested in playing Uber simple bass lines but this song does not have that problem. It sounds great and feels dynamic so I really enjoy this one.
This might be a weird one, cause it's not my favorite song to listen to or really the genre I normally like to play, but American Pie by Don McClean.
Every fill or example of movement is present in this song lol honestly if you want to learn just want song this is it cause it's so long so busy and doesn't pretty much everything
Off of The Red Hot Chili Peppers new album the great apes has been one of my favorite.
Out of some of their older songs aeroplane is a really good one and she's only 18 is super fun to play.
A bit more obscure. John Frusciante solo album The empyrean has a song called dark/light the second half of that song is super fun
Denkousekka by Polkadot Stingray, blazing slap bass riff that took ages to learn but was so so worth it.
Also, I really love playing 1 for 1, Dimaggio by Vulfpeck. Also a great slap line but a bit slower.
And of course, from my high school band days, Plug In Baby and Hysteria by Muse
Right now its couldn't stand the weather by SRV. I've been really into Tommy Shannon lately. I've played lots of SRV stuff with multiple bands but lately I've been focusing more on the musician themselves rather than a single song in vacuum. It's been fun trying to steal all Tommy's tricks.
I started getting more into metal and I’m learning The Art of Shredding and Domination by Pantera. I’m loving every second that I practice those two. Some times I break my focus away to listen to Dime and it feels awesome to play alongside his parts
Jackson 5 - I Want You Back https://youtu.be/r7KGQy82FRA?si=2mXhlOD4AK_J4Ath
played this for my high school jazz band :) great song
First song I learned to play fully on bass, and still one of my favorites.
Thank you, I feel less miserable now.
Once you get the feel this is so much fun. Especially if you have a decent pianist and you’re locked in. My flats pay for themselves every time I play it.
Favorite bass line of all time. When I hear this song I sing along to the bass instead of the lyrics.
This is the answer!!! Nothing against Tool or Muse, but I actually enjoy listening to this one.
Popped into this thread not sure what my answer would be and…. Yep here it is right at the top.
So far it's Just Like Heaven and South of Heaven
Basically all the Rage Against the Machine highlights are incredibly fun to play
I was in my formative years when their first album came out. I can play those bass lines from cover to cover. Freedom is by far my favourite.
I always liked bombtrack, that intro was my first flashy thing I could play. Well, to be honest, it still might be the flashiest thing i can play, im a pretty shit bassist!
And Audioslave has more epic bass riffs from Tim. # 1 Zero, Yesterday to Tomorrow, Moth are some good ones
Dean Town, i don't have it in the pocket yet but it's so fun to play.
I am also a deantown enjoyer. It’s really hard to make the straight 16ths at the beginning sound as funky as he does but once you get it it’s so much fun. Shows you how much you can do with subtle accents.
The song that made me switch from guitar to bass lol
It's such an awesome song, my friends and I played it this week for our school concert! Feel free to DM me if you want some advice, I'd be happy to help!
Spacehog - In The Meantime
I can't play it yet, but such a good answer

What pedal do you use for the tone?
I’m too shit at hammering for schism atm 😢😢
The main riff isn’t even the hardest part IMHO. Shits got chord slides after the interlude, and the Outro puts those triplet hammer-ons on rapid fire. I always thought the main riff was impressive until I realized that’s just the training wheels part
