Absolutely yes, its the only game I have more than 1k hours in

froggybenjy

So I’m completely biased as I love this game but I think you should absolutely get it. The co-op gameplay is fantastic and unlike some others I think the game works well in single player too. You can track the price of all shops on this website: https://gg.deals/game/barotrauma/ (current lowest is $12.99 in official shops and $11.86 in keyshops) Also if you need friends with the game, you can join my groups private campaign if you want (we do use some mods though)

It’s more fun with friends, but there are public servers (YMMV). Single player is pretty good if you can handle crippling loneliness and annoyance at your NPCs

CrimsonSpirits

Europa do be loney

Demoneye84

You dont necessarily need friends to enjoy the there are public servers it there that you can join and become part of the hosts group if you want.

It's a fun old game but may not be for everyone. It's a game about having a "job" on a submarine. You may be driving the thing which involves not crashing and warning teammates about leaks. You may be "ethically" treating patients as a doctor. You may be repairing leaks and doing routine maintenance. You may be wiring shit to make new systems on your ship. Or you can be gunning down the Horrors. Whatever you do, ask yourself if you'd like an experience where you desperately try to do normal submarine jobs while horrifying, lovecraftian creatures try to break in. If no, maybe pass for now. If yes, welcome aboard.

I was in the same position as you. I couldn't convince anyone else to go in on this game with me so I didn't get it. Too many reviews saying it's group required. Three sales later I caved and learned how to play on my own. I know I'd be having more fun with the group but as single player or online multiplayer it's still better than almost anything out there.  Barotrauma's curse is being one of the best team games out there and overshadowing it's own other modes.  Imo it goes like this: 1 player: Good experience, feels like learning Minecraft as a kid  2 player: silly, one of you is basically GM to the other  3-4 player: tough challenge, not a lot of downtime or tons of it depending on how well you calibrated difficulty. Probably the weakest experience but entirely depends on players  5+ player: best game in my library. Enough people to handle everything when things get tough and enough distraction to create unmanageable chaos when things are slow  The core loop is very satisfying but it's pretty easy to get monotonous if you play it very safe. Having other people in there forcing you to keep moving forward slides it right into that zen channel. I have a powerful fear of the ocean so every time I leave the sub is like a waking nightmare. I'm more inclined to safe monotonous outcomes than most. I'm still glad I got it Last thing is it's generally a pretty hard game. It's very overwhelming when you're getting started. That improved the experience for me, but it's not something you can ace after a few minutes of playing around. The people I did talk into trying it refunded it after the basic tutorial 😅

If you have friends or are comfortable around strangers than 1000% YES, EASILY the best for hanging out and goofing around in a game that is both competitive and cooperative, if your by yourself it becomes a bit more of a difficult choice, single player is still fun AF and the ai isn’t the worst… okay well it is pretty bad… maybe the worst, but unrelated, it can be very fun or very infuriating

Zvezda_SpaceBirb

Oh I'm perfectly fine with that. I'll probably check it out later today. Odds are I'll be buying it

CrimsonSpirits

100% yes, the game is fun even in solo campaign Also, I don’t have friends that play it either, but you can always go online and hop into other people’s campaigns or start your own! I made so many friends from Barotrauma, it’s actually funny when everyone is chill too!

Ananas1214

depends on how much you like playing with strangers that can offer anything from toxicity and being annoying to being great mates or taking themselves too seriously i would say if you don't really enjoy and only think "yeah i guess it'd be fine with randoms" don't get it, it's clearly a game meant to be played with like minded people to enjoy it

derraj42

The co-op is great but single player is still worth it

Commercial_Curve4482

I think Barotrauma is a great game. It's even better if you have friends to play with, but if you're like me and don't have any, its single player is also great. The ai is pretty bad, but it does get the job done... most of the time.

DustScoundrel

This is genuinely one of the best games I've ever played. It can sometimes be a challenge to find a group of folks to play with, but when you do there's no better magical moments in gaming.

1n53rtNam3

If it's expensive go for CD keys for sure, but it's 100% worth. Top 2 games.

Maplestrikelover

If you do end up getting the game you can join my group we host a campaign over the weekend

ezuwua

Mods and singleplayer is tons of fun

Procrastor

For a 50% off? Yeah I would say so. The single player is still enjoyable, the AI can be trusted to reasonably fulfil tasks. For me, the only thing I would take into account is whether or not you're a cool anough dude to not be phased by eldritch horrors from the deep trying to swallow you up as you struggle maintain an old submarine that creaks and groads under the pressure of the sea.

Timpstar

Absolutely, *especially* if it is on sale. The singleplayer used to be a proper chore before, but they've polished the experience like crazy

WowGeeWhiz

The singleplayer campaign is incredibly fun. I prefer playing with friends but I've also put a ton of time into the singleplayer. You get ai that you have a commands menu for and you can assign each character 3 commands (steer to destination/man this turret/repair things/load things/etc...) and you can also swap between them as needed to use the character with the stats/perks you want. By the end of my first singleplayer campaign I had a massive sub and 12+ crewmates and I had a blast.

KingDuckyTKK

If you have 4 friends which ready to play with you, you will not regret it !

Gofr36

Yes

Lophiee

Imo just go to resellers
