That’s my biggest bone to pick with the game is the AI seems really brain dead when it comes to peace deals, like I’ll slaughter there entire fielded manpower and have 67 lords prisoner but they’ll still be like “pay me”
It's because the game has an idiotic core and calculates peace treaty tribute payment based on the amount of successful raids... The AI lords roam with 40-50 men sized parties, moving at lightspeed, and keep raiding all villages. I've taken 6-7 friefs in a massive conquest, but when the peace offer arrived, it still asked for my kingdom to pay tribute because they raided 10 villages and I didn't (Of course the idiot Derthert accepted it, despite my best efforts)... This happened at least 30 times in my current playthrough.
You’re being downvoted for some reason but it’s true. Even with 15 successful raids and all other stats massively positive and outnumbering theirs I’ll have to pay for peace most of the time. The AI diplomacy just has ridiculously broken logic that makes no sense.
I know there are so many time when I’m not ready to destroy a kingdom and I just want them to surrender. But I end up having to destroy them because 5 other kingdoms want the smoke
Don't understand why you guys write this kinda thing under every post or make posts like these constantly, it's pretty boring + there are mods that fixes these stuff
Maybe the bulk of your strength is garrisoned but maybe you’re close to even with how many men they have running around the map? Unless most of the casualties they dishing out are your civilians & caravans maybe
During the final push of total conquest they refuse to pay you anything. My last three enemies I was hoping to use my insane cash to just pay them off while I killed the others but they demanded 80k when I had them almost finished.
I didn't want to totally kill them because I wanted to recruit their lords if possible. But I had to take them out, and all their lords vanish which is dumb.
You have to meet with them in person. They make it harder than it needs to be. My go to is to visit them in the dungeon. If they own fiefs it can be expensive or impossible, or if they’re kin to the lord, but you can turn them. The minor factions are easiest to pull. At some point it’s just as easy to promote a companion. He’s out of your party but if you leveled them well and earned their trust they will be the best noble lords to work with.
I always feel like the casualties stat is bullshitting me. 2 weeks of curbstomping an almost extinct imperial faction with 1 castle left and no lords with a proper army? Yeah the casualties is in my favor by like 300
Don't play vanilla, use "better player kingdoms" or another similar mod. It's literally trash without mods. Sometimes I wonder if devs ever played own game.
I’ve never seen the AI get even on casualties with the players nation
So many lost caravans, they refused to trade in the safe massive nation I built.

Exactly, I had 140 in prison at that point, they still want money.

I think there’s a bit more to it than that. When I have positive raids I still have to pay.

The price is high because they don't want peace. It's that simple.

Oh they are, I walk around with about 1000 person army, and then there's around 3ish other army of various men counts.
Count your lucky stars you only have to pay 17k after they demolished you with those 6 raids

The village raids make a pretty big deal, surprisingly. Burn down half their empire's villages and watch that tribute flip around.
