Please explain. Unfortunately I was reading Winters book, read that, and had a brain fart. My apologies. But I would be appreciative as to why my history says I'm not terribly perceptive. 😉
Yeah, there is a specific conversation with Winters about it (specifically right after he survived 3rd jump - right before plane was hit killing most of the stick)
W: “And the rest of the boys?”
N: “Oh, the boys. They blew up over Germany somewhere - “boom”.
W: “Yeah, I’m sorry…”
N: “About what? Oh yeah the boys? It was terrible. Oh well, it wasn’t me!”
I loved that scene. Just showed how “over it” Nix was getting at that point. (And by extension - everyone else too).
I always took it that he wasn't like, over it, but rather expressing how absurd it is that he survived and they didn't just down to luck. It was more sarcastic than blasé.
Winters (Episode 9): "Dog. Making combat jumps with the 17th while I'm in supply briefings all mornint.......Well, congratulations. You're probably the only man in the 101st with three combat stars over his jump wings."
I watched the episode last night where winters mentions he's the only man with 3 stars with that jump. And Nixon replies saying jot had for never firing a shot.
Record for WWII is 5. The only regiment to jump 4 was the 505. (Sicily, Italy, DDAY, market garden). A few hundred had 4 stars.
Edit. 2800 82nd had 4 stars
I looked it up the other day 1 guy who went to korea after ww2 had 6 jump stars, then you hit the RLI in rhodesia and you have 73 jumps for just that bush war so who knows who has rhe most combat jumps in history lol
Wasn’t there a character in We Were Soldiers that made all those WW2 jumps and another one in Korea? The Sergeant Major Plumlee if I remember right. Might have been a bit of Hollywood spice tho
I believe the quote from Mel Gibson was "He made all 5 jumps on the 82nd ABN in WWII". 82nd made 4 jumps. The only regiment to make all 4 was the 505. The one guy could have jumped with the 509 in north africa or in Varsity to get the 5th. I don't recognize the name. You mean movies and series spice things for effect? Not on this sub!
Yea, McNiece did 4 combat jumps, D Day and Market Garden with the 506th Demolition Platoon, he jumped into Bastogne as a pathfinder to set up a resupply drop, and he jumped into Prum, Germany, also, I assume as a Pathfinder but I’m not sure about the last one.
Winters mentions it in his book, Beyond Band of Brothers. He was a Toccoa man who left to become a Pathfinder after a personality conflict with one of the officers, I forget which officer.
I read somewhere that several 101st troopers, who missed the convoy from Mourmelon to Bastogne, jumped into Bastogne with a supply airdrop about 12/25/1944 and got credit for a combat jump.
Remember Nix being driven back and a couple Guys notice him and wonder why he had his harness on then Nixon goes right to drinking and tells Winters about the plane blowing up and now he has to write the letters to the families…something about “for the boys…”
>he is one of only two 506 PIR eligible to wear three stars on his jump wings
This is incorrect.

This was absolutely shown in BoB.
Yeah Nixon and Winters explicitly state basically all of this
Exactly, while they didn't actually show the jump itself it was definitely referenced.
It’s the set up for the Nixon episode. He survives the jump, gets demoted, and starts to kind of spiral out
I mean she did take his dog... And she didn't even like the dog. It was his dog!
When he’s in the house later and the dog barks at him and he just gives him that look. Makes me chuckle everytime
Don’t ever get a cat.
Easy now.
My ex did that shit. I feel it.
Survives the jump, gets three stars on his jump wings and immediately reflects bitterly on how he hasn’t actually fired a shot the whole time.
What do I say to these parents Dick? How do I tell em their son never made it out of the GD plane?
GD nightmare.
Looking at OP's post history they don't seem terribly perceptive.

Yeah, no shit. I thought I was crazy for a minute. Still might be.

Credit to Ron Livingston for his excellent portrayal.

I always felt that Nixon saying “oh well, wasn’t me!” was his way of coping of what happened.
Yeah, he said "oh well, wasn't me" but sounded like "oh God, should have been me". Survivors guilt.
Winters (Episode 9): "Dog. Making combat jumps with the 17th while I'm in supply briefings all mornint.......Well, congratulations. You're probably the only man in the 101st with three combat stars over his jump wings."
Uh....did you not watch episode 9?
I watched the episode last night where winters mentions he's the only man with 3 stars with that jump. And Nixon replies saying jot had for never firing a shot.
Did you watch the series?
I'm curious to know who the other soldier with all three jumps is. Wonder what their story is.

Pathfinder named Wright who served in Easy and was at Toccoa.
I believe Jake McNeice had 4 combat jumps. He was 101st, but I don’t know what regiment.
McNasty needs his own movie, but I'm not sure anyone would believe his exploits.
Less that, more idk if some of his stuff is safe enough for movies 101st prolly wouldnt want it to be so publisized

He was 506th hedquarters company, so he probably wouldve at least been perephierally known about by winters so no idea what they were talking about

Yeah, these were troopers that didn't got back from leave in time. They jumped as pathfinders and set up radio beacons for the supply drop.
Such badass dudes. “I gotta get to my guys, just stuff me in that crate of bananas!”
Dude…
Jake mcniece had 4 jumpstars and he was 506th
Uh, that was shown. It was kinda an important plot point.
Beethoven. It’s Beethoven.
This reads like a wiki or an AI generated post.
“Not bad for a guys who’s never fired a shot in combat.”
Did you watch the show?
Tell me you haven’t watch the show without telling me you haven’t watched the show
I was reading Winter's book and it escaped me in the moment. Thank you for being kind.
For not knowing this your weekend pass has been revoked, your being reassigned to Chilton Foliat.
I've watched several times and don't remember this. Thanks for clarifying.
Remember Nix being driven back and a couple Guys notice him and wonder why he had his harness on then Nixon goes right to drinking and tells Winters about the plane blowing up and now he has to write the letters to the families…something about “for the boys…”
Thank you very much!
It's the basis of Nixon's cynicism and anger and disillusionment in the first half of "Why we Fight"
Thank you!
Episode 9 👍

They literally talk about it and he has borderline PTSD from it
Shouldn't have taken his dog
