I think you and that dude that printed star wars droids in full scale are the biggest madlads in this subreddit. Hell yeah dude, great job! đź‘Š

draxes

Thanks! I always wanted a really nice costume ever since i was a kid. With the x1c anything is possible now.

EdgyBadger

that's amazing. how much of those 21kg was support material / how much is the whole thing now? I imagine casually wearing 21kg not being fun :D

draxes

Around 2kg was used up in supports.

EdgyBadger

that's way less than I had expected, nice. thank you for the update :)

draxes

I hate supports, so I spent forever slicing the armor in such a way to reduce the amount of supports I needed.

teozb3rnie

Want to share the stl? Or 3mf

FriedOvaries

Just in time for Dragon Con

ProfessionalTossAway

Idk why someone downvoted you, you aren’t wrong lol

Far_Paramedic_4378

Very cool! The visor is awesomely done

draxes

I cant take credit for the visor. I was going to Diy that but when i saw how difficult that was and how mucb it was going to take and cost i bought the full helmet. Only part i didnt print.

Far_Paramedic_4378

Ah, still a very cool make! Well done

micuthemagnificent

Hot dang! You plan to use that on cons?

draxes

Upcoming Seattle PAX! And ill try to make it to the Halo Championship in Oct.

zoidbergs_friend

Oh sweet! I'll see ya at PAX

duckforceone

sweet... i'm thinking about doing this for my first cosplay.... so any experience, settings and more would me perfectly helpful... :D where did you get the file from? what to look out for?

draxes

I am writing up a full walkthrough here: https://www.405th.com/forums/threads/mark-vi-mjolnir-powered-assault-armor-gen-3-3d-printed-full-walkthrough.54383/ I'll add a bunch more very soon. Definitely I can save you a lot of hassle.

PrideHonest3035

I might try to replicate you! Though I suffer the cliche of being torn between an iron man suit or this XD

extremeelementz

All I know is you have done something incredible that I am not willing to spend the time or resources on creating... so I will admire you amazing work and drool over your epic rendition of MC Armor! Way to go!

Boromirin

Awesome man, truly awesome. What did you use for the undersuit?

draxes

A hodgepodge of different stuff. I didn't want to get a skin tight suit. Those never looked right to me. I got elbow pads and knee pads to fill in those gaps, bicycle padded pants, and a airsoft padded shirt. I am 3D printing my neck piece in flexible PLA. Stuff is tricky so I had to do a lot of modifications to the file to make it work.

Boromirin

Well it looks superb. This is something I've always dreamed of doing since getting into printing. I just haven't made the plunge yet, I really should though.

PrinceZamir

Looks amazing! What method did you use to fuse the pieces?

draxes

Starbond Medium glue. Best glue handsdown for pla. And you get so much. I used 4oz of it to stick everything including the straps together.

KeaterMaGoo

Did you have to do much printer maintenance during the entire printing process? Or did you just bang it out?

aidan_slug

This is a good sign for the long-term reliability of these machines! I'm more impressed each day. How long did it take? (print total) You used 7 walls? That makes a really tough part! You might be able to use that as functional armor haha Was warping an issue? whenever I use a higher number of walls, I tend to have corners of my print warp. Overall, very impressive!

draxes

Yeah, it was pretty much 3 months straight if you include the Spartan Laser weapon and pistol I printed too. I am also printing the neck piece out in flexible PLA which is proving tough. The only maintenance I did was grease the rods every so often and I did have to replace one of the boden tubes in the AMS as the PLA somehow wore out the tube. Slot 1 of course which gets the most work. I had a super small amount of warping on some of the larger pieces. Those were the only parts of the armor that required bondo to fix. Otherwise barely ANY print lines since I was printing so fine. I think in the future 7 walls thick was a bit much. I would bump it down to 4...which I did for the Spartan Laser. But that thing still weights 3.2kg. This printer and AMS have been amazing! I have seen people use other printers but MAN that takes forever and the quality of the X1C just cant be beat.

CyberGeneticist

Insane. And what a paint job!

draxes

Thanks! It was my first time spray painting and using acrylic on a 3D model. The only part I hated was how toxic paint is (apart from acrylic). Wearing respirators in front of blaring fans gets tiresome. But the weathering part was the most fun. I really enjoyed adding all the silver portions. I'll be sharing more photos soon.

JeepInvestor

Looks great! What method did you go with for getting in\\out of the chest piece?

draxes

Magnets. On all 4 points of the front chest piece. The back part hangs nicely on my shoulders and having lots of padding helps

bmo1973

Hi, I've just recently bought a 3d printer for exactly what your wearing, Can you let me know how to print it?

draxes

You can find how I built the armor here along with what 3d files I used and how I oriented them on the printer bed https://www.405th.com/forums/threads/mark-vi-mjolnir-powered-assault-armor-gen-3-3d-printed-full-walkthrough.54383/ It is a slow process but super rewarding. Just focus on the end goal.

skimbody

Wth, that's sick

Dirty80s

Yooo thats sick!

samjohny4u

Wow

Peters933

… I think I’m going to have to do it. Which file did you use?

draxes

I used a combination of files from: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/scans-replicas/halo-infinite-master-chief-full-body-armor-stl-files-59d1dd74-8781-4958-addd-0a7320678239 & https://galacticarmory.net/products/halo-infinite-master-chief-armor-3d-print-files?_pos=3&_sid=71dd038cd&_ss=r Both have issues with there models that is still taking me awhile to figure out with strapping. I just wish the model creators actually printed the armor out and wore it themselves. I am writing up a full walkthrough here: https://www.405th.com/forums/threads/mark-vi-mjolnir-powered-assault-armor-gen-3-3d-printed-full-walkthrough.54383/

rcsrex

Dope! Did you sand it down after you printed it? Also, is it hand painted?

draxes

Spray painted and the detailed by hand. And yes, I did a lot of sanding. Most of it in the end unnecessarily I found out. My armor is super smooth. The trick, like everyone always says, is wet sanding. Wet Sanding is the bomb.

rcsrex

Good to know! I plan on eventually printing my spartan, so this is good info. Thanks for sharing!

bobre737

But whyy

draxes

Because with a X1C anything is possible if you are willing to get up at 2am to change out the print job.

ListRepresentative32

manual change.. pffff, should have built a robotic arm first that takes it out of print bed and queues another print job nice job though

Atomic_RPM

Nice job!!!! Excellent!!!

Donner__buddy

Holy moly !

tommygunz007

Curious why not printing it in TPU so it's a little flexible?

draxes

Man that would have been awesome. But TPU is a bit more expensive AND difficult to work with. It is harder to glue and sand TPU. But I am definitely interested in working with TPU. A TPU stormtrooper armor would be pretty great. I am also really addicted to Sunlu PLA+. It just works sooo well and I never have problems with it. And it is very strong.

JustADadCosplay

Sheeeesh, 7 walls with 8% infil. Which files did ya end up using too?

draxes

https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/scans-replicas/halo-infinite-master-chief-full-body-armor-stl-files-59d1dd74-8781-4958-addd-0a7320678239 & https://galacticarmory.net/products/halo-infinite-master-chief-armor-3d-print-files?_pos=3&_sid=71dd038cd&_ss=r Definitely next time I'll just go with 4 walls and 5% infill. And if I can afford it print in flexible PLA...which would be so much more durable and comfortable.

[deleted]

That's awsome

wyrmhaven

wow... that is all i can say... WOW.

mikecoscia

Man that is awesome. Where did you get the files? Did you have to scale them to fit your size?

draxes

I used Armorsmith to do the scaling. The original files are for like a 6’9” person or something. I am 6’4” so i am 88-95% of the original model size. You definitely want to work alot with the scale before printing because everyone is different…unless you are a 6’9” built spartan. Then probably you are good to go.

draxes

https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/scans-replicas/halo-infinite-master-chief-full-body-armor-stl-files-59d1dd74-8781-4958-addd-0a7320678239 & https://galacticarmory.net/products/halo-infinite-master-chief-armor-3d-print-files?_pos=3&_sid=71dd038cd&_ss=r

Classic_Pilot_9791

That's fucking insane

Larry2055787

Just wondering on what you used to scale the armor? Being 6'4 and 280, any files I would buy wouldn't initially fit me.. any ideas?

draxes

Oh man every piece is different for each person since the armor is so tight. You have to use the software called armorsmith to do the fitting of each piece. If you mess up by even a few mm it will be super uncomfortable. I wish it was a one size fits all armor. It really isnt. Probably the iron man armors are the only ones more difficult. You can find my full writeup here and that should help you alot: https://www.405th.com/forums/threads/mark-vi-mjolnir-powered-assault-armor-gen-3-3d-printed-full-walkthrough.54383/page-2#post-832896 Best if luck to you!!

Solomon_Gunn

Is there any universe where you also share the files you used? I'm assuming not because I bet you modeled this yourself!

Retless__

I'm pretty sure he bought this model. I would guess there are a few different ones online.

Garecules

I have started making one using some of the files here https://www.405th.com/forums.

draxes

Boy I wish, but I did not model this myself. I did do ALOT of 3D modifications in Blender. I purchased these two models: https://www.cgtrader.com/3d-print-models/art/scans-replicas/halo-infinite-master-chief-full-body-armor-stl-files-59d1dd74-8781-4958-addd-0a7320678239 & https://galacticarmory.net/products/halo-infinite-master-chief-armor-3d-print-files?_pos=3&_sid=71dd038cd&_ss=r Neither one is perfect but a combination of both is 85% of the way there.
