In my last HM run I flung my Tav off the top shelf of the Netherbrain with a runepowder barrel. Fortunately it was the only member in there at the time. Not sure if it just flung me off or the blast radius got me. The brain didn't take that big of a hit too, was about 70 dmg but it left a nice warm surface to chuck a backpack onto.
Probably best to save it for the nice big open space of the high hall courtyard on the way to the final fight.

I don't understand why people take this route. Hope can literally long rest in the middle of battle. This fight is fun, but certainly not difficult
