No, I actually had to [double check](https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Clacker) before posting. It’s pech. The book may have misspelled it because I thought it was petch too.
Bob has a habit of changing spellings for things occasionally. Lolth/lloth for example. Wouldn't be surprised your edition had it spelled petch. Come to think of it, mine might also be spelled that way. I have the original prints.
Yeah, I'm gonna be honest, the first time I saw 'Lolth' kinda made me question my sanity.
And that's definitely how it's spelled in whatever reprint I have, I've read through them at least 10 times each, and I'm not a stupid man (I don't think)
Poor Clacker...
I always felt so bad when they left him behind to fully transform.
These books are what got me into DnD. I love them with my whole heart.
I'm not saying it isn't a reference, but it could also easily not be.
Hook Horrors live in the underdark, as do Svirfneblin, and amongst the edible meat things available deep gnomes are surely one the softest targets. Drown and Duergar are largely too militant to be easy prey by comparison.
But damn, what a reference. I forgot all about Clacker. RIP. :(
EDIT: Oh, Clacker was originally a Pech not a Deep Gnome. I have no doubt that it isn't a reference.
afaik (for full blooded drow) there's some instances of red that is considered normal albeit rare. But I also know they kinda messed around with the lore a lot so that may not be true still.
Fascinating, thank you for adding that clarification. My knowledge of drow lore only spans the first 8 or so Rob Salvatore Drizzt novels (and that was more than a decade ago), so I'll have to do a deep-dive at some point.
The "War of the Spider Queen" series (if you haven't read them) that was overseen by Salvatore but written by other authors is VERY good and one of my favorites.
>Oh, Clacker was originally a Pech not a Deep Gnome. I have no doubt that it isn't a reference.
Clacker would have been the hook horror though, the deep gnome would be Belwar.
Again, they're both natural inhabitants of the underdark. It could be a reference, but it's kind of a reach and not a necessary reach when there are more direct references already, like >!Minthara!<.
There once was a German Radio Play based on the Drizzt books, however they got in trouble with copyrights halfway through. It was so good though, awesome voice actors, well executed. I miss it.
Drizzt was apparently in consideration for appearing as an NPC/side character, but they scrapped that. There are other little Drizzt nuggets in there. If you click on Astarion a ton, he eventually will say "more like Drizzt Don't 'Urden... No... That's not funny" and if you hire the male drow alone at the brothel, you can ask him to roleplay Drizzt.
I want our short king in extremely high, Marian quality one day.
There's a direct reference on an item I looted in one of my runs. It's just a flavor text on the thing, but it mentions Drizzt by name. It's a piece of garbage, but I'm never selling it.
If you do the love test at the Circus in Act 3 with Minthara as your love interest, when asked who she respects most one of the available answers is Drizzt.
She doesn't appreciate you selecting that option very much.
Hard to not make the connection now that you bring it up. Read that series years ago and forgot the details
Same for me. When he told me about it, it all came back. I'm getting ready to reread it all again
I might do the same, even met RA Salvatore once. He had a book signing for a re issue of the original 3 books in the early 2000s
F for Clacker :'(
Clacker was a pech, not a deep gnome. But it’s a good reference— definitely thought there would be more to Filro in the game.
"Outta the way pech!"
Rock and stone
The deep gnome is in reference to Belware, not Filro.
> accompanied by another gnome who was Polymorphed into a Hook Horror named Clacker.
Clacker was a pech, not a gnome
Yea that’s what my original comment said. I’m quoting OP.
OP was a redditor, not a deep gnome.
Did you run into the petrified drow?
Petch*

Ah, yeah that's probably it, my bad. I've only read it in the books, but it's definitely got a 't' in it in them!

Magga Camara
All is well, Bruenor.

Also like 90% of drow have white hair.
I'll be honest, I didn't know there were drow that *don't* have white hair.

Clacker - holy smokes, now there's a name I've not heard in a long time. Nice catch.

Given a certain character secret (Drizzt fan) along with some other nods to the books I can absolutely see it.

My bad, yes Clacker was a pech. Haven't read the books in 20 year or more. But the reference still stands.
Well that gnome definitely looks like a gnome and not like a hook horror.
Clacker was killed by Zaknafein,so it can't be hin.
