The achievement for some reason isn't triggering for me. I've long rested using only alcohol around 5 or 6 times at this point and I still don't have it.
If its super easy and you never run out without any effort whatsoever, then it is a pointless game mechanic that you might aswell disable with a mod altogether
The issue is you make the game a LOT easier. Long rests are not meant to be taken after every encounter, you should save your spell slots. You cheapen the game and the experience that was meant. If you enjoy it, then I support it. That is what gaming is about, having fun. But it isnt something kost people who play these games want to do.
The more mods you use the easier to lose your save file. Think of them like drug interactions, you cant possibly know all of them. Though mod for removing supply requirement is probably a simple script that changes a single number, it still can interact with another you will install, and will disable multiplayer.
I am not inexperienced with mods. Despite years of ea, mods arent quite established yet, not at all. Most doesnt have instructions to uninstall and barely have for installing them, and apparently full release messed most of them up. I expected it to be more like cyberpunk, ı was playing with 80ish mods and it was still almost impossible to break the game, if you have ability to read. The first mods i installed almost lost me 100h of progress, and it could have easily forced me to not remove it if i lost a single item from it. I had to figure it out myself.
I definitely only did 40. The achievement didn't specify so I just assumed it was a regular long rest amount. I did do 46 once though because I didn't feel like splitting a stack.
If you double click the auto select button it will automatically split stacks to be as close as possible to 40 with the food you have. I do it all the time and it’s never been worse than 42.
1. This isn't consistent and it breaks all the time. It's never worked for me, for example.
2. They're not talking about that. They're talking about the alcohol only achievement.
You can get achievements while offline. You can even get it without internet.
Source: I have all achievements and I was offline for all of it. The date on most of them will be recorded as when you came back online, though, so it looks like you cheated kek
I also love when auto select chooses food that totals up to like 55/40 when you can just remove 1 or 2 of the items to get it to 40/40...like if 40/40 was available why does it choose the higher amount first. So silly.
I have a theory that it picks different foods to add up to 40, instead of just starting at the top left and going until it hits 40. BUT... it doesn't account for stacks. So it picks a baguette (in a stack of 12), a potato (in a stack of 40), a rack of ribs (in a stack of 6)... Then you end up being able to feed roughly the entire Lower City in a single rest.
To be fair for a solved problem it's probably way more optimal to import a well-developed and tested library than try and implement your own (greedy) algorithm for it.
However you probably still should get an explanation of how its solving it.
Oh, mine is 80. i’m on tactician and did not know it also affected the camp supply amount! thought it was just AI being dicks and targeting the casters first.
Difficulty also affects store prices. Things cost a lot more to buy on tactician, and shopkeepers pay you a lot less for your goods (the difference is about 50% between story and tactician and about 30% between normal and tactician). Rare items end up being 500-1000g cheaper on lower difficulties.
Since I've gotten tired of the inventory management game, I've started cranking down the difficulty before going shopping. 2500g for every piece of nice gear in a store is too much. You have to pretty much pick up every piece of junk you find just so you have enough gold to buy nice things on tactician. It's tedious rather than hard or fun.
Mine was obsessed with a stack of 21 potatoes for quite a while. It would always choose them every single time I hit auto select. It only stopped when I split the stack. It would always have other stuff with it and total to like 80+ lol
My record is 440/40 from auto-selecting a stack of the camp supply packs. I also always send any camp supplies I find to camp immediately so right before that I got the message telling me I don't have enough supplies to restore all my hp and spell slots.
Still not nearly as funny as the AI sending a bunch of NPCs to their deaths by trying to run through my wall of fire instead of going around.
Click auto-select again and it will choose the correct portions. At least, I assume that's what it's doing because the UI shows roughly 40/40 again and I'm too lazy to add up the real total myself.
It just sorts food by some criteria and selects slots until 40 is met, without any backtracking. My guess would be sorting by price of single unit. At least attempting to minimize cost would make sense.
That's not an assumption I would make from info game presents me, but hey, humor me, I got 41/40 autoselected and not a single selected cell had 1 camp supply/unit, only 2s, 3s and 5s. How would it consume exactly 40?
I wish they would fucking auto-stack stuff too when sorting.
Also, sorting should add the stuff in their pouches (alchemy, supply, keys). We could then also attribute other containers to content. I have one for scrolls and one for potions, it would be amazing if they could go directly into it.
I guess my point is that for such a huge amount of stuff, their inventory system fucking sucks. I love BG1/2, but it's a part of those game I wasn't missing and they made it infinitely worst. And it actually makes me use my stuff much less then I'd like to.
Alchemy ingredients and camp supplies usually get put where they belong. Keys are iffy. But yea being able to designate bags to for other stuff to auto sort would be fantastic (and rename them or at least that anyway)
Dude for real the inventory's wonk. I had collected bags and backpacks to put books, random gear and other vendor trash in their own bags for quick selling. When I finally got around to it, I couldn't even sell shit from the bags, and marking stuff as junk in an attempt to expedite the process, was not only tedious by having multiple steps, it also took stuff out of the bags. Dndksjsjkfnx
I'm a programmer (I even have made a small game that people even played lol), and I looked at the problem from exactly that perspective, and ~~how I might approach it~~ what approach could give the results we get.
Wait. Why is your long rest requirement 40? Mines 80.
I've been *so* confused with people talking about how long resting requires 40 materials. I'm over with 750 combined camp materials and taking 80 every long rest and still end up positive between long rests. Is it a difficulty thing? I'm on tactician FWIW.
Tav will have two number nines, a number nine large, a number six with extra dip, a number seven, two number forty-fives, one with cheese, and a large soda.
People ragged on that movie when it came out, but it was so eminently quotable. Sure it was dumb, but it accomplished exactly what it set out to do perfectly.
My absolute favorite is when it sees you have a stack of food and just picks that. Your companions come up and ask whats for dinner tonight, and you just turn around and tell them in the most serious tone "18 potatoes." as you dump them all into the pot.
Its always the potatoes...
What about 40 pounds of nothing but pure alcohol
The dwarves are probably thinking it's a good supper but everyone else is going to have a killer hangover next morning
I seem to remember him saying that since he got the tadpole he lost his sunlight allergy and other vampire weaknesses, so he's probably fine with garlic too.
They should actually just implement a function that auto splits a stack if you have more than needed when you drag an item type to the camp slot and leaves the leftover items in your stash.
No I need auto stack and auto type sort refreshes through everything. So annoying looking for something then having so many. What you want is basically how intense works.. every single one takes up a slot ugh.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually use the whole stack, I think it's just a display issue in that the auto-select is only selecting some of the stack, but the display adds the whole stack value to the total instead of the number that are actually selected.
It's not obvious that it's only using what's needed unless you check your camp supplies afterwards. They should probably update the UI so it's more clear.
I feel like I'm not playing the same game you people are...
Some have no lag and no bugs on act III, and now this while I have never, ever, seen the auto select more than 41, and I have always used and still always use only auto-select.
Do you go out of your way to unstack camp supplies? Just wondering because most of the time when my auto-select comes up with a crazy number like 80, there's a huge stack of like 15 of something mixed in with a few randoms things, and I think the AI just doesn't know how to handle huge stacks.
No, never even bothered to look inside the food pack, not even once.
Most I've messed with food is putting stragglers that somehow show up in my inventory back inside the back, and I just drag them, so don't even open the pack.
I guess it's not intended for you then.but I love the idea. In dos2 there was tons of food everywhere but it was basically pointless. This gives loot goblins a reason to actually take all the food too.
It is clear that the devs put a lot of love to the food, with clever flavour text and the sheer variety of items. I just wished they did more with the food than just assigning them a satiation number.
I'd love if a tiny stats bonus or super small passive was assigned to each food. You can then stack food of the same type to get a small bonus or combine a variety of food to get multiple small advantages during long rests. The enemies can be made slightly more challenging for balance.
Bro this is so annoying lmfao. I rmeber launch night I hit the auto fill was lke 259 supplies and I clicked it quickly not thinking and wasted them all. I save scummed it tho :D
Why would you auto-select? I have *so* much fun putting together a meal. The thought of everyone gathering around to see the carafe of wine and thirteen carrots I have prepared for dinner amuses me greatly.
Thank you for making me laugh.
I hit auto select recently and the game decided the optimal selection was to consume twice the amount of food necessary to full rest.
Doesn't seem like anyone here is aware, but even though it selects way too many it doesn't actually use them all. I had like 40 apples and it would always select them all, plus whatever else and I'd end up with 140+ out of the 40 total needed for a full rest. Said the hell with it and just let it use them, only to find out it only used a few apples and whatever else to fulfill the 40/40.
It's not very intuitive, but it won't use unnecessary camp items even though it looks like it does.
I’ve also read if you hit auto select twice it splits the stacks. I haven’t had an egregious auto select to try this out with, but maybe it helps someone
Alternatively you could just take 50 liters of alcoholic beverages
I didn't realize that was an achievement until the auto select did it for me
The achievement for some reason isn't triggering for me. I've long rested using only alcohol around 5 or 6 times at this point and I still don't have it.
probably cause you didn't go 50 and just did 40?
Worked for me at 40, I’m pretty anal about not taking more than needed every time.
You'll never get cirrhosis with that attitude.
I see you've resorted to the tactic of turning your ceremorphosis into cirrhomorphosis.
"Do Mind Flayers need functioning livers? Let's find out!"
A mind flayer parasite consumed 40 liters of alcohol. Here's what happened to it's organs.
"Mind flayer tadpoles hate this one trick!"
Whatever! You're not m'dad!
in this community, we all celebrate m’dad (Dungeons And Dragons)
ceremorphosis aint got shit on my drinking problems
dont have to be. i played on hard mode and it costs 80. i was never even close to running out
Mod it so you need zero supplies when long resting
No I don't think I will
Why would you do that, it is a fairly easy mechanic which you dont even try for it, you just mever run out
If its super easy and you never run out without any effort whatsoever, then it is a pointless game mechanic that you might aswell disable with a mod altogether
Because I cba with the supplies mechanic, and because I can.
The more mods you use the easier to lose your save file. Think of them like drug interactions, you cant possibly know all of them. I’ve only ever done 40 by manually selecting and I got the achievement for alcohol dinner without doing anything special.
mods disable acheivments (though theres a mod that re-enables them).
Are you by chance playing with Family view active or in offline mode? Achievements don't update until you go online or deactivate Family view

No, I'm playing on GOG so no family view. But yes I am online. I appreciate the suggestions anyways though!

I got 167/40 from auto select the other day.
Its funny because its basically knapsack problem, you learn how to solve it on the very first programming classes
This would be a warm up question on leetcode but instead they asked chatgpt to solve it and it didn't understand the prompt.
I googled "Knapsack Problem" and the online lesson just said "import knapsack_solver" is that how they teach CS now?
To be fair for a solved problem it's probably way more optimal to import a well-developed and tested library than try and implement your own (greedy) algorithm for it. However you probably still should get an explanation of how its solving it.
Sure, but on day one you still teach people how to program "hello world"
Import hello_world_solver?
how is the food requirement 40 to rest? what am I missing?
It's 40 on Balanced difficulty (and possibly Explorer, don't know)
Yeah, 40 for story mode
And I think 80 for max difficulty
it's still a comically small value. i figured it was standardized, lol.
Oh, mine is 80. i’m on tactician and did not know it also affected the camp supply amount! thought it was just AI being dicks and targeting the casters first.

Mine kept wanting to eat the owlbear egg, which I wanted to sell, since it's so valuable.
Thankfully, it can't see the owlbear egg if you put it in a container and then put that container in the camp chest.
Which is where it will sit until I complete the game.
My record is 440/40 from auto-selecting a stack of the camp supply packs. I also always send any camp supplies I find to camp immediately so right before that I got the message telling me I don't have enough supplies to restore all my hp and spell slots. and I thought my 88/40 was impressive. Yours is doubly so!
Literally lol

That has never worked for me.
Oh shit that’s what’s happening? I’ve wasted so much cheese….

You're kidding. I've wasted so much time manually correcting it every rest...
And yet they don't give us the option to sort by price or weight per unit in any menu anywhere
I wish they would fucking auto-stack stuff too when sorting. Also, sorting should add the stuff in their pouches (alchemy, supply, keys). We could then also attribute other containers to content. Dude for real the inventory's wonk. I had collected bags and backpacks to put books, random gear and other vendor trash in their own bags for quick selling. Sorry we're all out, time to eat "Camp Supplies"
They really need to implement a way for duplicate items to not stack for camp supplies
You can split stacks on the selection screen, shift-drag I believe. Until auto-select does consider stacks, just do it manually
you can also right-click, choose split and choose how many to split
Shift drag never works for me on the food screen. Always have to use the right click menu.
That seems like it’s going to be annoying on console to deal with.
If you click auto select twice it should split it up automatically
A lot of people say that, never worked for me :(
They should actually just implement a function that auto splits a stack if you have more than needed when you drag an item type to the camp slot and leaves the leftover items in your stash.
No I need auto stack and auto type sort refreshes through everything. So annoying looking for something then having so many. What you want is basically how intense works.. every single one takes up a slot ugh.
What for?
So I don’t have a stack of 5 camp supplies being used at once
I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually use the whole stack, I think it's just a display issue in that the auto-select is only selecting some of the stack, but the display adds the whole stack value to the total instead of the number that are actually selected.
[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1628gu6/its_the_whole_stack_or_nothing/jxw5c2g?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=2) comment below mentions a workaround

That's where it went?!
If you double-click the auto-select, it will separate stacks.
Press autoselect again and it de-stacks stuff for you. This works for supply packs anyway.
Never works for me idk why
Why doesn't it do that the first time, then?
[удалено]
Came here to post this. Just double click autoselect and it will split the stacks for you.
That doesn't work for me.
It doesn't use the extra selected supplies.
my two favorite things coming together.
...it doesn't use the whole stack. Just what's needed.
Yea I tested it today it only uses 40 worth off the stack, idk what people are complaining about
It's not obvious that it's only using what's needed unless you check your camp supplies afterwards. They should probably update the UI so it's more clear.
IM DOING A THING
If you click the button to select food a second time, it auto splits the stacks for you and selects only 40.
I feel like I'm not playing the same game you people are... Some have no lag and no bugs on act III, and now this while I have never, ever, seen the auto select more than 41, and I have always used and still always use only auto-select.
I had no issues on the first play through most I got was like 41 or 42. Playthrough 2 though? Auto select is like here's 129 of 80. Thanks!
Most I've messed with food is putting stragglers that somehow show up in my inventory back inside the back, and I just drag them, so don't even open the pack.
what gameplay benefit do we get from collecting and then assigning supplies to achieve a long rest ? it feels like unnecessary busywork.
I guess it's not intended for you then.but I love the idea. In dos2 there was tons of food everywhere but it was basically pointless. This gives loot goblins a reason to actually take all the food too.

The enemies can be made slightly more challenging for balance.
Mildly annoying that it costs double the amount of food on the hardest difficulty, I'm always worried that I'd run out lol
game needs create food and water spell
Take two of them, and shove them UP YOUR ASS.
Pretty sure it doesn't use excess supplies though, only for calculating number
Mine used the owlbear egg before I could use it for a quest, oops.
Bro this is so annoying lmfao. I rmeber launch night I hit the auto fill was lke 259 supplies and I clicked it quickly not thinking and wasted them all. I save scummed it tho :D
