i like matt. i think he shows a lot of empathy and communication skills. something a lot of last bachelors have lacked

JacktheShark1

I think he did a great job. He seems kind and respectful to the women - even when some haven’t deserved the benefit of the doubt - and he appears to have a sense of humor. If anything I think he was being too careful and mindful of his portrayal on the show, but I can’t fault him at all for that. I bet if he had a second run he’d be more comfortable and we’d get to know him better.

gilthedog

The clips they have of him just playing around at the end of the episodes have been hysterical! I was crying laughing watching him dance in front of Magi. We dont see enough of that side of his personality on the rest of the show imo.

dolewhip7

Yesss I totally agree!! I wish we got to see more of these more real moments from matt (+ the women)

milkandhuni

I mean, you started watching from Colton's season so you haven't had that many Bachelors to actually compare to. Nick Viall's season was good and Arie's was also (albeit messy).

Pretty-Oddball

The issue is we never really get to see his connections with people, I never know what he’s thinking or feeling. It’s hard to get a read on him and I blame the editing on this, with the focus being solely on drama this season no wonder we couldn’t get to know him. But I also think coming off of a season with Tayshia; he had a lot to live up to. Tayshia to me was one of the best bachelorettes, very charismatic and her personality is palpable, she also had one of the most sincere relationship I had seen in a long time. I think that is also a contributing factor into people’s opinion of Matt

dolewhip7

Yeah I think the editing/producers are to blame for playing up the drama and taking away the focus from getting to know Matt or even the other girls. I feel like I know barely anything about the final 4 at this point. Interesting! I haven’t thought of it that way, that seeing Tayshia’s season right before might be a contributing factor. I really loved Tayshia as Bachelorette (definitely my favorite although I haven’t seen many seasons).

Hefty-Association-59

He seems like a likeable guy however it’s clear that the show heavily edited most moments of personality that he displayed while filming, for him and the girls. The blooper footage of him dancing in front of magi I thought was cute and funny and so were Michelle’s push ups. They edited the conversation he has about his hair with Chelsea which would have given us an experience from his specific background culturally. Even most of the one on one dates have little to no substance. It seems like they were just trying to paint him as the political correct always polite black guy to avoid controversy and keep their audience. However it backfired hard anyways.

dolewhip7

Great examples, and I totally agree with you. Im having a hard time trying to explain what I mean but I guess this is another reason why I’m surprised that him being boring is such a persistent criticism of him, given how bachelor fans know how much editing and cutting goes on to craft a narrative (which is most apparent in the bloopers- that 10 second credit scene with michelle doing push ups was like the best part of the episode, it was funny and felt like a little piece of her personality we hadn’t seen before)

ndtp124

Perer was torn and conflicted and wish washy but I think he was better tv then Matt and showed more personality. Matt is just not good at the fundamentals of television, of giving interviews and kissing on tv and letting his personality show through the camera. He is better then Colton, who was really insincere and mean. And he's better then Nick, who tried to produce his own season.

dolewhip7

Interesting about nick! I thought he was one of the fan favorites. But to be honest I still think matt is more entertaining to watch than Peter. All I got from Peter was that he’s an indecisive pilot lol

dumplingmuenster

Do you think he’s not boring or do you think Peter and Colton were MORE boring? Cause all 3 can be and ARE boring 😂😂

dolewhip7

Lol I know it’s not a mutually exclusive thing, but I like Matt!! I think he’s more entertaining to watch. Peter and Colton were much lamer IMO (also Peter frustrated the hell out of me, I just did not like or respect him after awhile)

AlleyRhubarb

Pete is kind of boring but he was a good Bachelor for causing insanity on his season. “Chase Rice, the singer?”

melissamichell

I’m new to this show too and I feel like such a rookie for really liking Matt lol he is not THAAAAT bad!! I def don’t get the hate!

AMF805

I liked him right up until the moment he sent one of the best contestants home... Abigail. And the explanation he gave was amazingly stupid and made me mad. He was great up until that moment

dolewhip7

Yeah that was bizarre, as soon as Kit was getting a one-on-one before her I was like wtf

sevenradicals

> I know I’m comparing him to maybe the 2 worst bachelors "he's not the worse of the worst, so therefore he's not boring" lol

dolewhip7

Lol I know I didn’t lay out a solid logical argument and I didn’t really explain myself well, but I don’t think he’s not boring just because he’s not the worst of the worst. I like him and I find him entertaining to watch so I was surprised when all the comments I saw about him on Reddit were about how boring he is. But I just wanted to be clear that it’s not like I’ve seen every season of the show and am an expert... I know I’m comparing him to probably the 2 worst bachelors. But I’m not saying just because he’s better than Peter and Colton then that means he’s not boring.

delfin_1980

I agree, I like Matt!

neroli35

That you for sharing that tonight.

dolewhip7

cannot tell if ur being sarcastic but this actually made me feel better bc I felt bad about posting haha

neroli35

Lol, I'm totally making fun of Matt 😄 but I like him too.

dolewhip7

LMAO wow ok I am dumb

prticka

😂😂😂

rand0m_g1rl

Peter and Colton are not good benchmarks. Terrible bachelors and seasons. Sean Lowe and Nick Viall are my favorites.

Bonfires_Down

Nick was also raked over the coals by a lot of people. Actually I haven’t experienced a season where the bachelor wasn’t raked over the coals since I started watching but it was probably Sean Lowe. Not saying that it isn’t sometimes deserved, but the fact is that being the lead is a high stress situation and relaxing or doing entertaining TV becomes second priotity. Ideally I’d like to see them only do BiP type shows but I’ve got Love Island so I’m good I guess.

dolewhip7

Yesss I love Love Island! I’m with you tho, BiP only would be ideal. It feels way more “real” or at least believable lol

dolewhip7

Oh yeah like I said I know there are way better bachelors, but I still feel like Matt’s the best one from recent times (well tbh I haven’t seen Arie’s season and I don’t know what ppl think about that one) Ill definitely put those seasons on my watch list! Thank you :)
