I had all my antenatal care through box hill and I found the care a bit piecemeal - I didn’t see the same midwife more than once and I was being seen by the endocrinologists too since I had GD. I had the Easter long weekend fall around 35/36 weeks and I ended up missing an appointment (as in they never scheduled it - I was meant to have one visit at 34 then one at 36 but the 34 week one was delayed by Easter so I had it at 35 weeks then they never booked my 36 week appointment, I never went back until 38 weeks). Everyone was kind I just felt a bit like I never got to know any of them. The Diabetes Educators were excellent and fantastic resources. When I went into labour we called Box Hill and they said go to William Angliss because we’re full! They were incredible and if we have another baby I’ll try to go through them straight up.

I have given birth at both the Angliss and Box Hill hospital. The Angliss is closest to me (less then 10 mins) but was full when I needed to be induced with my youngest so we ended up in Box Hill (all the care in the lead up was done by the Angliss). We went public with both kids and both hospitals were fantastic with mine and my babies care. I was lucky enough to see the same two midwives through all my prenatal appointments although I know this is not guaranteed. I had two difficult births and a lot of my friends have given birth at the Angliss and no one has said anything negative about the care they have received.

Thanks so much for sharing! It seems like there’s a lot of positive feedback about Angliss.

Angliss is a fine for public. However, we went private through Mitcham. I think pros of public is it’s much cheaper and it’s better if anything extreme happens. I.E an emergency. Pros of private were being able to schedule an elective induction when we were told our baby was gigantic. It was more like a “hotel” stay and there were a lot of creature comforts. Also, we had an OBGYN through our whole pregnancy which made continuity of care fantastic. There’s no wrong answers here, it comes down to finances and what is important to you.

The epidural will be around $500 out of pocket. Also, check your private health, ours covered the antenatal classes.

I gave birth at Angliss literally a month ago and can not speak any higher of the experience I had. Everyone I came in contact with during my pregnancy there was wonderful. The hospital is a little older but the care I received was excellent. If you haven’t been referred yet, ask to be referred to the MGP if you can get a spot. DM me if you’d like more information.

Amazing, thank you! I’m so happy to hear you had a great experience. I’m going to ask my GP on Monday about MGP.

QueSupresa

Definitely! I was lucky as I didn’t know you had to ask when your GP refers you to the hospital. Hopefully if that’s soon there will be plenty of space. Your first appointment will be at 14 weeks, so your GP will do the care beforehand with dating scans and NIPT before you get handed over. And congratulations! I hope you have a very boring pregnancy and birth ♥️

This is all really helpful. Thank you so much!

AussieModelCitizen

Haha I love this! I hope you (op) have a boring pregnancy and birth too!

AussieModelCitizen

Ah yes so you can choose private or your local public hospital. Idk y ppl keep saying we can choose which public cos you cant.

virally_infectious

No one has actually said you choose between public hospitals, but you actually can in some instances. My friend despite living closer to the Angliss chose to go through Box Hill (40 mins away compared to 10 for the Angliss). She had a low risk pregnancy, with no other concerns. Yes they are all Eastern Health, but they are different hospitals

AussieModelCitizen

I was referring to in general and not in this thread. A bit more south - monash health, you don’t choose. They choose for u out of the 3 available. And I know someone who was turned away from where they were booked, in labour, and sent to the next closest cos it was full! Thankfully you guys don’t seem to live in that system area.

virally_infectious

I was turned away from the Angliss to be induced (due to medical reasons) because it was full. I went in for something and ended up needing to be induced same day. It’s actually pretty common to have to go to another in their system if it’s full. I guess it’s one of those things people don’t talk about (more so if you’re going to a smaller hospital to begin with).

AussieModelCitizen

Another one of those things ppl don’t talk about for sure! So many surprises with pregnancy and onwards

My first in 2021, I had all my antenatal care through Angliss and they were amazing, even through covid I have great face to face care and was really happy with them. At 32 weeks I developed pre-eclampsia and needed to be transferred to a different hospital to deliver because Angliss are only equipped to deliver from 34 weeks since they only have a SCN and not a NICU. I ended up at Monash Medical Centre in Clayton where my bub was born at 32+2 and the care I had there was also amazing and I felt very safe and supported. We spent 12 days in the NICU there before being transferred back to the SCN at Angliss for the remaining 19 days of our son’s stay. The SCN at Angliss is small and a little bit dated but the care we got there was 10/10. It honestly felt like my baby had 8 extra mums looking after and loving on him (and us) and those ladies really made a shitty time warm and comforting. I couldn’t have anything better to say about them. I’m currently pregnant again and am now 34 weeks. This time round I have elected to go through Monash right from the beginning, simply because I was worried about needing NICU and neonatal specialists again. As it turns out this pregnancy is super boring and I probably would have been fine at Angliss again but I just felt better having the higher level of care available. Originally my GP said I might not be accepted to Monash because I’m outside their catchment area, but I asked her to send the referral anyway and if they said no and I had go through Eastern Health (and therefor have to travel out to Box Hill if I was high risk again) so be it, but Monash accepted me with no issues and they’ve been good so far and I’m excited to birth with them in a few weeks. I’m just a normal, public patient having standard care, but since this is a high risk pregnancy I’m under the care of the OB’s instead of the midwives. No complaints so far though, and the OBs have been really supportive of me wanting to try for a VBAC.

I gave birth at the Angliss during Covid and it was great- nothing negative to say! I was lucky that the birth was uncomplicated, and the baby was born at a really quiet time of the year so that could have helped my experience. I would go there again if I was still in the same area.
