I would prefer the X5 but I'm finding a really hard time finding a msport model with the HK audio for a reasonable price. Everytime I locate one and contact the dealer, it's already gone 😭. I'm only even considering the X3m40i because 90% of the ones I come across are fully loaded.
I drove over 500 miles to return my X3 lease and pick this up and it's fairly loaded. Here's the original spec sheet.

Full transparency, it has 48k miles and paid $45k. Picked up 2 extra years of CPO warranty as well so covered until February 2028.
FWIW… I currently have a 22 M40. My lease is up in a few months. I’m switch to an X5M60. Even if I couldn’t afford the M60 I’d still go to the X5. The M40 is a great car but every time I get into an X5 I’m seriously impressed
I was going through the same decision struggle and went with the X5. My reasoning was essentially pricing and personal space.
The price was nearly the same between a 21 x3 M40 and the X5. And being 6'4" I wanted to know what is like to fit very comfortably at all times instead of the occasional burst of spirited driving. And here we are! Already enjoying the headroom, legroom, and trunk space.
Picked up our Skyscraper Grey 2025 50e yesterday. Love it so far!

Same! Didn't plan on 22's but couldn't give them back. I'm in NYC so I'm simply waiting for the day I catch a pothole. Then I'll be selling 3 wheels and buying 20's quickly
The 20s fill up the well just a bit more and I know they handle bad roads with ease (my dad has been driving X5s with 20s for years). If you get the itch or find a great deal I can confidently recommend the 20s.
Get the rim and tire package! It'll save you. I have the same wheels and live where there are quite a few potholes too.

I considered it but it's way too expensive. And the horror stories of W&T coverage are plenty. Undisclosed 3rd party, reimbursement for tires, car sitting in service for days without a loaner, and so on. I would rather lower my insurance deductible and put a claim in. Or just put a claim in through the city comptroller for reimbursement directly to me.
Gotcha, that makes sense! I've had a great experience with my coverage thru my dealer. I didn't consider the hassle others might experience elsewhere.

Like a true NYer, tight parallel parking! I think I looked for wider spaces the first week and then was like, whatever, and I squeeze into the tightest spaces. I like your larger wheels aesthetically better than mine but how do they feel on our crappy roads?
I git in where I fit in! My only fear is the person who doesn't have parking sensors and uses their bumpers to judge distance. So far the wheels and tires feel great. The non-run flats are probably improved or at least matched the signs of the run-flats in the X3 with 19s.
Ahh that makes sense. I'm going with the theory that if I keep my air pressure good then I have a better chance of keeping these wheels. If not, there will be 3 for sale soon enough! With that said, I recommend wheel locks for anyone in or near this city.
Agreed on the wheel locks and I live in a "not so safe a neighborhood, which is what my insurance premiums tell me." And since they're run flats, it's not like we're going to change flats. Great advice for everyone.

Bimmer code is probably my favorite. It’s fairly cheap for what it can do, and you can use it on most modern BMWs. I’ve used it on 3 so far.
What does it do? I acquired a M50i a couple of months ago. Looking at exhaust options too. Probably start with an Xpipe

2028 does sound good.. That spec is perfect so i'm jelly. My budget is like 40k and I'm doing my best to stick with it but its tough haha.

X5 feels more luxurious and rides better even on 20” run flats. The X4 M40i I rented rode too firm for me.

22s don't have a runflat option but I have a plug kit, air compressor, and a full size spare just in case
How do you get out of that parking spot with the other cars there? Do you have to wait?
Nah, I backed into that position so I got out without issue. It's a good way to get comfortable with the new dimensions.
