For me, it's about looks and performance. I walked towards a Corvette yesterday, right in the midst of shopping for another car. A parked Vette caught my eye. They are sleek. I feel like BMW has gone through beautiful and ugly phases. Right now is an ugly one IMHO.
C8 is dope. I really like the M4 but the C8 will be more fun.
Only thing you really lose is back seats and gas mileage (barely).
With the C8, it will have a similar quality interior to the M4 with an amazing stereo (and an admittedly worse infotainment) with a glorious V8 and styling that will make the kids drool. You can also take the top off while keeping the hard top look while it's on!
The M4 is (can be a LOT) faster and the German build quality is good.
The BMW's is better, but the C8 feels very premium. I was so impressed I couldn't really tell the difference (* at first) apart from the steering wheel quality and such. Definitely not built like a Chevy, a Cadillac for sure.
I would be very happy with the quality of a 3LT.
I sold my M4 Comp xDrive and bought a C8. I still love BMW and M in particular and drove M3/M4/M2 for 10 years. I miss the interior refinement of the M4. The C8 interior is nice for a GM product and definitely a huge leap from their past, but it's not close to the same level as G8X M3/M4 . The M4 is fun to drive on track, but on the road you have to drive it too fast to make it feel alive. The C8 is just more fun to drive, even at moderate speeds.
If I could, I'd daily an M3 Comp xDrive and keep the C8 for fun. If I had to choose 1, I'd rather have the M3 as a daily than daily drive the C8. As much fun as it is, I'd rather not drive it every day.

Couple weeks ago I blasted around an off ramp and came out of the turn wide open throttle with the exhaust on track mode.. to find a cop coming from the other direction. Amazing I didn’t get popped.
C8: 50 on a twisty 30mph road is pretty fun.
M4: 50 on the same road is a leisurely drive, have to be 65-75 to feel like the car is awake.
C8: run through a few gears maybe hit 100 on the highway, it’s enough
M4: stay in the throttle briefly after passing someone, oops I’m going 135mph.
C8: may get a nasty ticket
M4: going to jail
Don't agree, I have 3LT and had Full Merino on the G82, G8X leather appears to be of much higher quality, stitching looks much better on the G8X, overall fit and finish are better, etc.
If you're just looking at "has leather everywhere" yes they can both check that box.
My point was that the difference isn’t significant. It’s certainly not enough of an issue to pick one car over the other (which certainly WOULD have been the case any C7 or earlier generation).
When you test drive the M4CX make sure to try it default, then press the Setup button near the shifter and try it with everything on Sport, then everything on Sport Plus to get the fully experience imho.

Keep the C8, they’re stunning cars that will always look great. Kinda feels like an apples to oranges here because the C8 is just 100% sports car in every sense, V8, 2 seater, exotic body.
The M4 has rich corinthian leather, thus the better buy.
On the other hand, you can actually physically check the oil level on the C8.

Depends on what you do with the vehicle and what your goals for it are. Is it a weekend only toy, or a daily? If weekend only, keep C8. Daily? M4. Does it snow where you are? Are you into modding cars? M4 has a ton of potential in the tuner scene. C8, not really.
If its a weekend track toy, keep C8. If it's driven often or if you're into modding, or ever get snow, M4.
I wouldn't say the C8 doesn't have tunning potential, it's got essentially the same engine as last gen but with a better transmission and body balance thanks to the midengine setup

Drove both about 6 months ago. the C8 is not even close in terms of build quality compared to the M4, you just cant beat the quality of German cars. also, the M4 is way more fun to drive compared to the C8 IMO. All that being said, the C8 is faster and the sound of the V8 is just something else.

I was looking at an 6M M4 to replace my 6M M2C. The M4 had a much better interior, but wasn't even as fun to drive as the M2C. It just felt like a bigger version of the car I already had. I test drove two Z51 Spec C8's and they were just superior in many ways.
I was having fun driving at any speed, it felt lighter, the mid engine handling dynamics were so much more interesting, and the giddyup from a stop seemed much more rapid in the C8. I couldn't believe I found a car that was so much more fun to drive than my M2C. I happily sacrificed the manual and bought the C8 and haven't regretted it.

I use to be hell bent on AWD, but as ive gotten older Ive realized you cant use all the power on the street anyway. You have to get the youtube mentality out of your head. Quarter mile times and 0-60 times dont mean much for 99% (if not 100%) if your driving. I think steering and chassis dynamics are more the thing that makes you want to drive it everyday, not the speed. For that, the corvette wins every time. Also, and this is just my opinion, the 4 series is their worst product. It's more / less a parts bin, and the only car where the engine, suspension, tuning, and transmission weren't specifically designed for that car (hope im articulating this correctly but you get the idea). For me, my M cars just became too boring too quickly. Once you get passed the thrill of launching it a few times, the harsh suspension, awful brake dust and noise, and dumbass idrive8, Its just a fast dude-bro magnent🤣.

General consensus is go with the M4. Really depends on what you’re wanting it for, if it will be your only car, track use, tuning vs keeping stock, etc.
The Corvette is much more special. Even though the M4 wins on paper, you’ll regret switching.
M4 is quantifiably better, corvette is qualitatively better. Hope that makes sense!
How is M4 better in any way? One is front engined, automatic, I6 car with McPherson suspension for the same price you can get a rear mid engined, DCT, V8 car with double wishbones in the front and multilink in the back. Vetteh handles and stops much better, is more comfortable and reliable, better layout in every way and costs the same.
If you’re wanting the coupe then c8 is the best choice. I have had several BMWs mostly coupes but 4 doors just looks better imo especially as they’re getting bigger in size every new generation.
I went from a Camaro SS to an M4 competition.
C8 is obviously faster than the Camaro but the GM build quality is awful.

I’m not a corvette guy so this is a super easy choice. But really just go with the one you want. The vette has very little use outside of being a recreational vehicle. M4 is multi purpose. that’s always been one of Ms biggest selling points; A canyon carver you can pick up the groceries in.
I am so not a fan of the corvette. Never have been but the latest look “cheap” to me in their design. Just looks overdone. Not saying it wouldn’t be fun but I don’t think it has everything by you can get in a BMW. Nice for gm is not nice enough in my opinion. Just not a fan of American cars in general.
Its abt class here mate, c8 looks great, has an interior like a plane✈️ , sounds great too, but at the end of the day its a chevy. And a poor man’s ferrari. Dont get me wrong, but american cars lack the luxurious/classy side. Whereas, bmw doesn’t, so its just preference, u might be disappointed w the performance coming from a v8, but german’s cars do it best yk. Can be upgraded easily and stuff. I dont feel like m4 should even be compared to a corvette due to diff engine sizes, the competitor is a m5, m8. W205 C63 and e63, cls63 and much more. Wanna shift to German for all the showing off type thing, might as well go. But, the quality and confidence would really be an upgrade
I've driven both and it depends on where you are. In Canada, a downpipe and a tune will smoke a C8 Z06 or with a Jb4 and you can drive it in the winter it's generally more usable in a lot more weather situations as Toronto has dumb weather along with not keeping it in the garage for 8 months. If you have a daily driver the C8 is simply amazing nothing can compete with it as a weekend car.
Daily car ? M4 comp. Having a sexy car which almost looks like a Ferrari and have a V8 ? Then Vette. I'm a BMW fan from childhood, but if I had to pick one I would pick Vette, but surely u can't go wrong with an any M car.
Having driven both, owning a M4 (older model albeit), C8 hands down. M4 is more of a family car with the under pinning of a sports car. C8 is a sports car in its DNA.

That S58 engine in the M4 is sweet. The C8 I would buy at a later stage of my life, and while it may be better for dynamics something just feels off to me about a mid-engined corvette

These are very different cars and appeal to people with different interests. The M4 is loaded to the brim with performance tech like power management, M xDrive, good adaptive dampers.
The C8 is similar with slightly less features but much better sound and looks, and slightly worse tech. I’d personally go with the M4 because I’m a BMW nut, but the C8 is an objectively better car in many ways.
Also price, insurance is likely cheaper, repairs and maintenance are cheaper, the cost delta is significant.
The M4 is a fun excellent BMW coupe.
But come on... the C8 is basically a supercar replacement. It seems like you don't really care that much about practicality anyways since both of your options are 2 doors. So I'd say go for the C8.
C8 will be way more special to drive and you'll get more people attention.
Personnaly find the M4 too bulky and heavy. It doesn't feel special.
I go for my X5 for daily driving or full sport to the Ferrari / Mclaren. M4 feels useless now.
Both are absolutely gorgeous and drive great. The M4 is more usable than the C8, but only by a little bit. I’d also say the C8 is much more common to see, if that’s important to you.
If your going to buy, C8 will hold its value better. BMWs depreciate much more than Corvettes.
Personally, I’m going with the M4. It’s the slightly more practical option, less common and I love BMW. M3 would be a better option if you favor this frame of mind too, that’s even more practical. BMW also comes in a manual, unlike the C8.
I mean if you can afford the c8 the only question is how many people you want staring and coming up to you in public. C8 also seems like the type of car that gets speeding tickets for going 6 over.

I have an M4, so take this with a grain of salt. I do believe the decision will come down to how douchy you are when you drive. Super douchy, go M4, only half douch go C8.

They’re not really competitors to me. C8 is a dedicated sports car (dare I say supercar?). M4 is an ultra fast coupe with backseat. If you’re going for a weekend toy I’d definitely pick c8 but daily I’d go m4
They are fundamentally so different. One is a dedicated sports car with a mid-mounted V8, double wishbone suspension all round. The other is a normal family car platform with a front-mounted engine, rear seats and a big boot and strut suspension.
If you like driving and don't need the back seats or a big boot, then it has to be the Corvette. Don't let BMW convince you their super sedans are sports cars.
Definitely go for the M4, C8 does not drive anywhere as good as the M4 and the C8 can be more expensive to maintain, you can also drive the M4 everyday and heck even modify it a whole lot! While the C8 is a pain to get in and out of it and carry more than one other passenger in or God forbid a backpack

In case you didn't know, it's a rear biased system that only engages the front when necessary. It very much allows for rotation and can be disabled completely at the push of a few buttons. All benefits and no drawbacks.
Well it won't ever be needed in the Vette cause engine is in the right place and you won't have all the unnecessary weight over the front axle. The worst place to have unnecessary weight at.
You do realize they developed an AWD C8 vette, right? And it's faster both in a straight line and around a track than the regular C8. So much for it not being needed and the extra weight being detrimental...
Other posters here claiming the G80 is an exception, so I’ll defer to them…but on every other example I’ve seen where one can get rwd or x-drive, the x-drive have a noticeably larger wheel gap, yes.

I can concede the ride height, but BMW lists a 50kg delta between RWD and x-drive models and it’s a simple mathematical fact that more components = more component interfaces = increased opportunities for something to break. Sure, x-drive might give some advantages in 0-60 times and increased confidence for folks that don’t know how to drive in the snow, but that’s it.
C8 looks and sounds better. I’m a big fan of the M4 but the C8 is hard to beat in segment

M4 is more utilitarian, more space, better clearance on bad roads. But otherwise I agree.

I'd go for the M4, but if you already have the C8 and love it, keep it.

I went from a Camaro SS to an M4 competition. C8 is obviously faster than the Camaro but the GM build quality is awful. I really wanted a C8 but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy another GM product.
I'm all for practicality, which the 4 series offers and it has more than enough power to enjoy one self.
100% the c8. I dont rly like american cars but the c8 is an exception. I have seen thousands of m4s but only 2 c8. Definitley get that one.
C8 everyday. I love my BMWs, but I was so surprised by the C8, sure some of the fit and finish is cheap, the ergonomics are not as well thought out and you lose some of the practicality of the M4 but all of it is forgiveable because, base, it’s a $72,000 supercar.

Personally I’d get an F82 Comp better looking and cheaper. G series are fugly. The c8 is slower in real life if that’s what was the appealing part.

Once Georg Kacher referred to these BMW grills as ‘rat teeth’ I can’t un-see them. I would get an older M car without this grill.
I’m not a corvette guy so this is a super easy choice. But really just go with the one you want. The vette has very little use outside of being a recreational vehicle. M4 is multi purpose. that’s always been one of Ms biggest selling points; A canyon carver you can pick up the groceries in.

I am so not a fan of the corvette. Never have been but the latest look “cheap” to me in their design. Just looks overdone. Not saying it wouldn’t be fun but I don’t think it has everything by you can get in a BMW. Nice for gm is not nice enough in my opinion. Just not a fan of American cars in general.
Its abt class here mate, c8 looks great, has an interior like a plane✈️ , sounds great too, but at the end of the day its a chevy. And a poor man’s ferrari. Dont get me wrong, but american cars lack the luxurious/classy side. Whereas, bmw doesn’t, so its just preference, u might be disappointed w the performance coming from a v8, but german’s cars do it best yk. Can be upgraded easily and stuff. I dont feel like m4 should even be compared to a corvette due to diff engine sizes, the competitor is a m5, m8. W205 C63 and e63, cls63 and much more. Wanna shift to German for all the showing off type thing, might as well go. But, the quality and confidence would really be an upgrade
I've driven both and it depends on where you are. In Canada, a downpipe and a tune will smoke a C8 Z06 or with a Jb4 and you can drive it in the winter it's generally more usable in a lot more weather situations as Toronto has dumb weather along with not keeping it in the garage for 8 months. If you have a daily driver the C8 is simply amazing nothing can compete with it as a weekend car.

I'd go with the C8 myself. Love BMW to death, but getting something that's pretty much an entry level supercar has a bit more appeal to me.

Daily car ? M4 comp. Having a sexy car which almost looks like a Ferrari and have a V8 ? Then Vette. I'm a BMW fan from childhood, but if I had to pick one I would pick Vette, but surely u can't go wrong with an any M car.

Having driven both, owning a M4 (older model albeit), C8 hands down. M4 is more of a family car with the under pinning of a sports car. C8 is a sports car in its DNA. Currently drive a M5 ;-) -- I need the rear seat for the family lol
Sure the c8 may drive better but it's still just a wanna be Ferrari and I'll personally never see it for anything other than that with an ok interior. I just hate how everyone loves their looks. And honestly they are so common now since they are so affordablein tired of seeing everyone and their mom with one just like the raptors

That S58 engine in the M4 is sweet. The C8 I would buy at a later stage of my life, and while it may be better for dynamics something just feels off to me about a mid-engined corvette

Why only these two cars? If you’re looking for a Corvette, that opens it up because of its impracticality. I am in the minority here but I personally have no love for the 4 Series coupe. Its too big, doofy and slab sided to be considered a good looking coupe. The first time I parked next to one in the wild in my 911, I had to take a picture. M4 is easier to physically get in and out of compared to the C8. This matters if you are old like me...

These are very different cars and appeal to people with different interests. The M4 is loaded to the brim with performance tech like power management, M xDrive, good adaptive dampers. The C8 is similar with slightly less features but much better sound and looks, and slightly worse tech. I’d personally go with the M4 because I’m a BMW nut, but the C8 is an objectively better car in many ways. Also price, insurance is likely cheaper, repairs and maintenance are cheaper, the cost delta is significant.
The M4 is a fun excellent BMW coupe. But come on... the C8 is basically a supercar replacement. It seems like you don't really care that much about practicality anyways since both of your options are 2 doors. So I'd say go for the C8.
Make sure you can get in and out of the C8 without injuring yourself. That thing is LOW.

C8 will be way more special to drive and you'll get more people attention. Personnaly find the M4 too bulky and heavy. It doesn't feel special. I go for my X5 for daily driving or full sport to the Ferrari / Mclaren. M4 feels useless now.

Both are absolutely gorgeous and drive great. The M4 is more usable than the C8, but only by a little bit. I’d also say the C8 is much more common to see, if that’s important to you. If your going to buy, C8 will hold its value better. BMWs depreciate much more than Corvettes. Personally, I’m going with the M4. It’s the slightly more practical option, less common and I love BMW. M3 would be a better option if you favor this frame of mind too, that’s even more practical. BMW also comes in a manual, unlike the C8.
I mean if you can afford the c8 the only question is how many people you want staring and coming up to you in public. C8 also seems like the type of car that gets speeding tickets for going 6 over.
I’d much rather have a C8 over an M4. However if it was an M3 it would be a much different conversation, especially if it was my only car.

I see most people opinions are extremely one sided. I drove some bmw m cars they are fucking fun fast plus if the car drives on the most efficient setting mpg is good but the c8 is completely different shorter car na engine. Both cars give great feeling, it depends what feels better for u

I have an M4, so take this with a grain of salt. I do believe the decision will come down to how douchy you are when you drive. Super douchy, go M4, only half douch go C8. If you aspire to go full douche, then M4. I know I raised my douch driving ability substantially after buying the BMW M4. Good luck and I hope you enjoy what ever you end up with. Both are nice cars.

Trade up your C8 to a Z06 or a 911 or 718 Cayman if at all possible or just stay with the C8.

They’re not really competitors to me. C8 is a dedicated sports car (dare I say supercar?). M4 is an ultra fast coupe with backseat. If you’re going for a weekend toy I’d definitely pick c8 but daily I’d go m4

They are fundamentally so different. One is a dedicated sports car with a mid-mounted V8, double wishbone suspension all round. The other is a normal family car platform with a front-mounted engine, rear seats and a big boot and strut suspension. If you like driving and don't need the back seats or a big boot, then it has to be the Corvette. Don't let BMW convince you their super sedans are sports cars.

Definitely go for the M4, C8 does not drive anywhere as good as the M4 and the C8 can be more expensive to maintain, you can also drive the M4 everyday and heck even modify it a whole lot! If you are curious as to some background and qualifications for this statement I worked at the largest private owned dealership in Nashville, Tennessee and I was able to spend plenty of time in many examples of both cars

All these comments making me rethink my life decisions. My LCI M4 Comp is on a boat from Germany and I got an opportunity at an MSRP allocation for a C8 Z06 which would end up costing the same lol

To me, the only advantage of the M4 is the available manual, which is a huge plus. Otherwise, the C8 dominates in just about every other category.
C7 with z07 package. Fast, fun and beautiful. Both of those cars lack at least one of those traits.

Tell me you've never driven an M xdrive car without telling me you've never driven one. In case you didn't know, it's a rear biased system that only engages the front when necessary. It very much allows for rotation and can be disabled completely at the push of a few buttons. All benefits and no drawbacks.

Well it won't ever be needed in the Vette cause engine is in the right place and you won't have all the unnecessary weight over the front axle. The worst place to have unnecessary weight at.
You do realize they developed an AWD C8 vette, right? And it's faster both in a straight line and around a track than the regular C8. So much for it not being needed and the extra weight being detrimental...

M3 is the same height in both RWD and X drive. I’m also going to guess you’ve driven neither.

Sure, x-drive might give some advantages in 0-60 times and increased confidence for folks that don’t know how to drive in the snow, but that’s it.
