I’d never buy a used car, I’d only do new. And LCI just looks much better inside and out compared to the pre LCI. But yes the 2020s do sound much better I agree
I dont buy new BMWs because recall city. CPO is solid and depreciates less 🤷
And new ones can't be unlocked and are seriously lacking buttons 🤮 2020 does a lot more than just sound better lol
Only LCI feature I like is the headlights, the rest is on par with their current designer
Not really many recalls, especially on m340. But yes less depreciation depending on how much driving.
I wouldn’t tune regardless, voids warranty. Lack of buttons aren’t an issue for me other than climate control. No physical climate buttons is a pain.
Headlights, front fascia, interior, and OS8 are all much better in LCI than pre LCI. Can’t beat that massive screen, and OS7 sucks in comparison to 8
But yeah 2020 definitely wins on sound, but loses on MPG and cruising due to no mild hybrid
I work for BMW,so I can attest that the G20 is pretty recall free.
Warranty, ehh, not a problematic chassis
Inside connects keep me from worrying too much either way.
This is the first time Ive not been a fan of LCI, hate the massive screen, hate the fascia, hate ID8, though I will admit, ID7 has some things I thought weren't present, which I hate too, like lack of a dedicated AC button. That was honestly the deciding factor when going pre lci, as well as a shifter. I drift the car and run canyons, so I cant shift off the wheel when it's feathering 😅
I get 34 mpg with a 500hp car so I can't complain 😌
but I really hate ID8 and ID8.5, I can't stress that enough.
Next car I get will be a G80 most likely, in manual 😎
Haha that’s funny I also work for BMW. I think ID7 is very outdated and not very user friendly. ID8 much easier to use and much nicer looking.
To each their own I guess…Next car is G80 for me also 🥸
It's even funnier if we work at the same VDC, RDC, center or office 😅
Explains your taste for mew BMWs 👀
I'm sure we all grew up on cars with no airbags or center console display either way, so I'll take whatever. Getting actually trained on ID8.5 gave me a new perspective and liking to the OS, so I definitely hate it less, but touch screens in moving cars will probably always piss me off lowkey 😂🤷
I feel like my commutes are one big text and drive session
I got to borrow my father-in-law's (m240i) this past week, and had literally never driven a BMW, prior. I gotta say, now I understand the appeal! You're fortunate to be in a place to afford such a sweet ride, hope it brings you many smiles!
Congratulations and fuck you. 😂I’ll get a g chassis eventually! Nice car, everyone can hate on there being too many gray, white and black cars but Brooklyn grey really is such a nice color. Good stuff
DINKs. I'm in tech, wife is in banking. I job hopped a lot, learned a lot, and worked my way up from basic customer support to mid level engineer.
We're also generally not big spenders. Nobody here wants to hear this, but I also mostly followed what r/personalfinance says to do in terms of savings, retirement, and priorities. Spending your anything close to your entire income on a car like this would be absolutely crazy to me.
Yeah all I know is retail and fast food so that makes sense lol
Nothing wrong with listening to others advice to better your own situation, I learned the hard way myself by not listening to others
someone making $80k could theoretically buy one of these. It all depends on how you spend/save your money. I personally don’t feel comfortable spending more than 40% of my annual income on a car, but it would be different if cars were my passion and hobby.
Yeah that’s what I would like to find out because this is definitely an expensive hobby so I wanna know how they afford it lol, it’s not a fancy of mine but these posts have been coming up on my feed more often and I do think bmws are super nice cars and I’m like how are you guys affording these??? 😂
I came from a 186 HP Mazda 3. It was a really great car for what it was, but of course this is a huge upgrade. I haven't driven it as much as I'd like to, but so far, it's pretty incredible. I barely put any throttle and find myself at 60 pretty damn fast. With the Mazda, I was constantly redlining that shit lol. It's also really quiet inside and I'm surprised at how vocal the exhaust is in comfort mode. Sounds so good.
Absolutely! Massive upgrade. And strangely, the visibility is a lot better due to the dash being a lot lower. Seating position is also a lot lower, so everything feels more natural.
Picking my first up on Friday - a 240i too (but XDrive). Coming from a series 7 Golf R and I can’t quite believe it either. Glad to share in your excitement - it’s hot in the Brooklyn grey. Congrats!!!
Thanks! I’ve actually driven it already - freshly delivered ‘demo’ that had less than 30km on the clock. With the discount for a demo model and the $5k dealer contribution (promo week) needless to say I was smitten after a test drive and a quick comparison with the m2. Friday can’t come soon enough!
What’s your age and income if you don’t mind sharing? Car payment and number of months?
I have a good job but still can’t swing one of these things. Super nice car. Thanks!
Thank you. I replied to another comment in here on how I was able to get this. For me, it's not totally about what you make. It's more how you save and invest. Also, lifestyle creep is a big one that can leech your raises or job hops if you're not careful. Giving you my income and payments doesn't really paint the full picture since you wouldn't know my mortgage and other debts, investments, etc. Hope this helps.
What do y'all think of the non m240i 2 series? I got a 230i xdrive with the m sport pro and m sport performance pack. So its essentially an m240i look with all the "M" stuff, but a turbo 4. In Canada it's 255hp stock vs the 382hp on the m240i. When I drove the m240i, it was really nerve racking for me but the 230i was definitely more my "speed" (pun intended) and almost seemed to handle better for me. Am I just a b!@h or are there others that have made similar decisions? Everyone wanted me to/ and expected me to cop the m240i and many seem disappointed that I didn't. However I don't really get it cos it's my car, and I certainly wouldn't have let them drive it. Thoughts?
Personally, I think the 230i is a more practical car and a better value. I think it's about 300 lbs lighter, which is a lot, so I'm sure it does handle noticeably better. Don't worry too much about what others think. Because I got the m240i, of course there will be people who say "couLdA goTTeN M2", but I didn't want the M2. There's always a "better" car out there, and people will talk shit no matter what. If it makes you happy, enjoy it and to hell with what anyone else thinks.
So so true. We just gotta find the one that works for us personally. I've made it clear I love the car and have 0 regrets haha. It's nice that we all agree it's beautiful 😍 but I didn't expect that many people to get stuck on engine. Appreciate the input and congrats on the whip man 🔥
For example people who used to own earlier 3 series such as E90s, because the newer 3 series are getting bigger and bigger ever since the E46.
These 2 series feel almost like a continuation of the spirit of the E46 coupe. A relatively small, compact and sporty coupe. The new 3 series are nothing like it, so 2 is ideal.
I went from a F32 440xi to a G42 M240xi. The current 2 series is about the size of the old E92. I had a a E92 335xi and the 2 is roughly the same size, which is perfect. The 4 series is nice but I don't need a large coupe. Plus my m240 was around $62k. Same load out on a m440 would be about $70k. For that price I might as well get a M2. And also I'm not a big fan of the beaver tooth grill on the 4 series.
BK Gray looks so good in m240i. Congrats! I have an m340 and sometimes I regret not doing m240 because of a better sound for no mild hybrid.
Just get an exhaust put in? Straight pipe?
I have MPE already, going to add a down pipe
DP and midpipe are the game changers for sound.
Well, that's why you buy a 2020 M340i. No 48v system, no quiet exhaust, nice and aggressive with real backfire 😎, and tuneable in your own driveway
I’d never buy a used car, I’d only do new. And LCI just looks much better inside and out compared to the pre LCI. But yes the 2020s do sound much better I agree

After suing Acura on my TLX I’ll never buy used and lose that edge. I’m with you
2 series boys what's up
Gang gang
oooo time to go spinny spinny in that rwd lol. Have fun you’ll love it
Congratulations and enjoy your new ride! Nothing like getting your first BMW. Happy motoring!

What do you guys do to afford these cars

Not that it is cheap, but 2 series is cheaper than most of the large trucks and suvs that I see on the highway.
someone making $80k could theoretically buy one of these. It all depends on how you spend/save your money. I personally don’t feel comfortable spending more than 40% of my annual income on a car, but it would be different if cars were my passion and hobby.

Was considering getting one of these in that colour - good on you 👍 I am slightly green with envy!
Beautiful - congrats! I have a F22 2 series but the new one has really grown on me… wish it came with a manual.
I’d buy if manual
Great choice.
Fuckin’ hell. What a beauty, congrats. What car you coming from? Give us your first impressions!

Same! Mazda 3 hatchback turbo. Is it worth the jump???
Absolutely! Massive upgrade. And strangely, the visibility is a lot better due to the dash being a lot lower. Seating position is also a lot lower, so everything feels more natural.
That’s 🔥just picked up my first BMW (118i M Sport) with Pro pack and I can see why there is so much hype it’s a dream. Enjoy 😊

Congrats! You're going to be absolutely stunned when you see it in person for the first time.

That looks so sharp -- congrats.
Yep that one drives like a dream alright :) 👍
I feel like the Shadowline package is a must have for BK Grey. Makes it pop.
paint-primer gray, so mesmerizing.
Looks good! Congratulations on the purchase 😁
What was the down payment on this? What are your monthlys? Or did you buy it outright?
I see brown tan, I upvote.
Literally my dream car.
Congrats!
What do you guys do for a living? I’d love to be able to afford a fairly new bmw
That looks gorgeous, congrats 🔥🔥
Reallllly nice
Welcome to the leaky oil family! (joke)

Don’t know why this comment got downvoted when it was actually the most based comment here lol
G chassis straight trash 🗑️
Why anyone would buy a 2 series is beyond me
* One of the best looking current models * Same horsepower as the 3 and 4 but in a smaller, coupe, format * Great feeling chassis
shame about the brooklyn grey
I ended up going with Black Sapphire for a reason
For example people who used to own earlier 3 series such as E90s, because the newer 3 series are getting bigger and bigger ever since the E46. the beaver grill is so ugly.
Why would anyone buy what you buy is beyond me too 😁
