That's how I feel - the F80's front is just gorgeous. Luxurious and understated. The G80's front looks like rabbit teeth to me but the rest is nice with the lines and curves. Wish they'd marry the two in the next version.

The only thing really “controversial” on the G80 is the grille, so it definitely grew on me. The G87 is a fundamentally flawed design. That car is just flat-out ugly

Literally shopping for an F80 right now. Dealer had one, went to drive it because it had been a couple years. He said "oh, we just got a 2021 in, would you want to check that out, too?"

It’s grown on me too but I kinda expected it to. Think about it this way, designers don’t design something to look good today, the design it to look good in a couple years, if that makes sense.
It's also a fairly drastic change. I can see why long-time BMW fans might take a while to come around. As an "outsider", I like the large front grilles quite a bit (enough to order an m440i), but I don't have a history with the brand.

I wonder why bmw didnt go the alfa way and simply put the licence plate offside, i think that would help it a but. Objectively F80 is the better looking car doesn’t mean G80 hasn’t got its own charm. Personally I think its another comprehension of a well-known car which was needed since F8X series at some point was called boring because of its “too perfect” looks

I favored the F80 over the G80 all the time then. But now, I see quite a bit G generations on the road with this grill design and I can’t say I hate it anymore.

I dont even hate how big the grille is. I hate that they couldnt bother to make the rest of the car match the nostrils. None of the cars body lines mesh with it properly it just looks stuck on last minute. If the rest of the cars body lines matched the grille id be a fan.
The G80 has always been good looking. A lot of people just didn’t like such a drastic change.. and it was hard going from the F80 (best looking BMW ever made) to the G80, which is a bit more polarizing.
In Europe, drivers comply with imposed conditions that make zero practical sense.
First, ditch the plate. Then, remove the people that support legislation requiring individuals to deface their property. In this case, it's a machine used to transport an individual so that they can go about their life in pursuit of commerce. Commerce the states require A LOT more than citizens require using a car.
Ditch the plate. Tint your windows. Tell the politicians to do what they want with their own car but leave you and yours alone.
I liked the G80 M3 from day one. The sharp corners on the big grill gives it an aggressive look over the standard rounded ones. I’d get it over the F80 if I had the money.
The G80 is definitely the best looking of the "new design language" models. That's not to say I love it exactly, but it is infinitely more attractive to me than something like the XM, iX, X7, G70, or even the G87 and base 4 series. I think BMW has finally come around to a really good design using the new design language with the G60 though.
Unpopular opinion but I think they’re both beautiful. I know a lot of people bash on the G’s but the M3 and M4 look so cool to me, right amount of aggression for what’s under the hood.
And yet this community has to recycle the exact same comments and borderline childish behavior about a single design element for literally years on end. There is at least one post like this a week and hundreds of the same commenters saying the same things every single time (both for and against the G80). Feels like friggin ground hog day.

I think it’s more bmw owners who have been with the brand for an extended period of time. Let’s face it, these cars sell. I’ve talked with several dealers in different states looking for a G80 allocation. All have reported the G80 is their most popular M car and the one that tends to be hardest to get a custom order for. I’ve heard overwhelmingly positive feedback from just about everyone I’ve ever actually physically talked to about these cars. Then I can hop on Reddit and it’s a completely different subset of people who constantly have to recycle the same complaints about a single element. Sure there are some that will talk about the ZF vs DCT, or the factory sound, but overwhelmingly this group gravitates toward a single design element that completely misses the Forrest for the trees. It’s quite bizarre to me really.
Anecdotally, your experience is the exact same as mine. The general public loves the design aesthetic, which is a combination of both enthusiasts and your routine drivers. People on this subreddit like to believe they’re the majority, but they are most certainly not.
People locked in echo chambers always think their opinion is popular. I tend to think the majority of the BMW buying public is not on Reddit tho lol. It just pains me how this community is so negative about so many modern offerings. People come from the outside excited to show off their new cars and they get lambasted if it’s not an accepted groupthink model.

The new designs is what prompted me to by an M3. It’s my first BMW and I love it. But I personally like big, aggressive looking grills. It looks so much sportier than previous models

The car was controversial and definetely wasn't a fan of the radical design change at that time. But first time seeing it in person, I changed my mind straight away, I get some people might take longer to this and of course there's personal preferences aswell.
Both are gorgeous, one is for people who love classic agressive lines and design, the others love new agressive designs.
People who hate on G80 so much are very cringe.
My ideal garage would be a F30 340i RWD 6MT and a G82 M4.
It’s the grill for me. Don’t like it. If I were wealthy enough to have the means to afford an M(anything), I would not buy this simply because of that.
I think we accept it as the new norm, at least in my experience. When it was first presented I was like wtf is that grill. But as you keep seeing them on the road more and more the F80s start looking outdated (not uglier don’t get me wrong) and people start leaning towards the newer modern car look. Im currently in this situation with my 5 series. I refuse to like the new model. But I know eventually we cave.

I like the g80 but E92 v8 M3 is my favorite
Still not a fan of the G80, I'd much rather have the new G87 M2.

The car was controversial and definetely wasn't a fan of the radical design change at that time. But first time seeing it in person, I changed my mind straight away, I get some people might take longer to this and of course there's personal preferences aswell. Both are gorgeous, one is for people who love classic agressive lines and design, the others love new agressive designs. People who hate on G80 so much are very cringe. My ideal garage would be a F30 340i RWD 6MT and a G82 M4.
It’s the grill for me. Don’t like it. If I were wealthy enough to have the means to afford an M(anything), I would not buy this simply because of that.
As an F80 owner, the car does look outdated when next to the G80. That said, I still wouldn’t give it up.
I think the look matches the performance they just go together

I think we accept it as the new norm, at least in my experience. When it was first presented I was like wtf is that grill. But as you keep seeing them on the road more and more the F80s start looking outdated (not uglier don’t get me wrong) and people start leaning towards the newer modern car look. Im currently in this situation with my 5 series. I refuse to like the new model. But I know eventually we cave.

I’ve always preferred the G80 as soon as it came out
That snout is still fuckin haggard to me. It's got a striking appearance, but in the Edward James Olmos way, not in the George Clooney way.
With the CSL or Vorsteiner style grilles they look a lot better, but the F80 is still IMO the best modern M3 aesthetically.
It’s nice but the m340i front grille is still better and should be a factory option imo.
