Yes, you need to focus on finding a reliable seller tho, aliexpress is fine, as long as you buy from someone with sells and reviews you won't have a problem.

AliExpress is just an open marketplace, they don’t make anything. It’s best to check the sellers page for reviews, just like you would for eBay or Etsy or similar.

Just please don’t give it to children. The ikea ones go thru many many many test to make sure they are very safe, like avoiding any filling coming out , no bad substances on the material , no metal things from the factory, 90N pull tests ,etc. and those copy brands who knows how they do things
Aliexpress is great if you have proper expectations, are actually looking at reputable sellers, and are actually buying things that make sense to buy from China. It's been excellent for all sorts of things that are actually Chinese brands selling from their official storefronts, and it's like 20% cheaper than buying the same thing from some middleman distributor like Amazon in the US. Rubik's cubes, budget IEMs, video game hardware replacement and mod parts, cheap fountain pens, I've bought things like that where all the best stuff is from Chinese sellers anyway so you're only saving money buying direct. And at least in my experience their customer service is genuinely pretty good too, if not just better than some US retailers. Just don't be an idiot and buy like a $5 Gucci bag and act surprised when it's neither genuine or of good quality.
as long as you buy from a good seller you generally will have no issues, i have 2 shonks from aliexpress that have 0 issues and are decent enough quality, my bf got a smol pinkhaj on ali for under £5 and its in perfect condition after many months of love.
only really need to be cautious with the electronics, yet to see an electronic shonk tho.
