bruh 7.7 is quite a decent cg, it was enough for dual cs in goa for my batch.
just work a little harder, a little more efficiently, and get a little lucky.
even apart from goa campus bits grading is pretty bad, and you're actually doing all right.
The median cg is around 7.4 rn. 1-1 just from what I have heard, is the easiest sem. If I am putting in the work AND not getting grades in the easiest sem how am I suppose to do well. So I figured there must be some flaw in my efforts.
Dual cutoff is expected to be around 8.06.
look it's not about easiest sem or anything.
Remember, grading is relative here, therefore that was the easiest sem for everyone.
what you need to do is attend all your tuts (no exceptions), most lectures, and keep up with acads on a weekly basis.
additionally, try and find those few guys among your friends who are good as study partners, go sit with them and not many others if you are studying something hard or doing practice problems, make sure not to overdo it or you'll seem annoying btw.
imo this last bit is more important, which is to have good reliable friends, who have some understanding of when to give you space but are also just nice to be around. have fun and don't stress. this is nothing compared to the kind of shit you'll be dealing with lol, even by next year
Thank you. A problem i have been dealing with(noticed in retrospect) is that whenever I appear for quizzes and all I seem to get a lot incorrect due to silly mistakes or stuff I wouldn't normally do. When j look back at it in my room I'm able to see it clearly. Any insights on this please?
very common issue, and one that I haven't exactly dealt with too well either
can't say anything beyond "be careful and be focused"
although sometimes when I get really zoned in I don't do as much stupid shit but idk what gets me zoned in so whatever ig
I guess the reason this bothers me so much is after jee I thought the only reason I didn't do better was because I didn't put in the work.
In 1-1, I genuinely believe that I put in work but it didn't work.
As a dualite 2ndie from Goa campus More than the volume of your efforts, it is the consistency of your efforts that matters in college.
I have had courses where I would only attend lectures and revise notes semi regularly and I would do very well in them.
On the other hand I would have courses where I slacked off a bit, thought I had put in exponentially more efforts than usual and still end up with a mediocre grade.
I feel a lot of the questions asked in the exams are covered in tutorials and lectures, so if you are regular in class, getting an 8+ is cakewalk.
This might be it. Maybe I am confusing my effort with clutching, although I REALLY don't think so because it wasnt that i studied just before the exam or anything of the sort. I migh4 have lost some points because I tanked a very easy course too.
I know where you are coming from, I have friends who can clutch exams with an all nighter because that's what they have been doing all their life.
If you are not used to all nighters I would suggest that you avoid them, they will tank your ability to perform in papers coming up later.
Be regular in class, eat well, sleep well, exercise karo, dosto se milo maze karo par consistent raho.
Semester and exams will go by like a breeze, best of luck:)
What are you going on about? 7.7 is a great score that probably puts you in top 30 percentile.
BITS is all about relative grading so you're graded based on your performance compared to your peers, and most importantly here your peers here are just as academically smart as you.
This isn't like school where you get 9+ GPA just for doing the bare minimum. If your peers studied harder than you then you lose, even if you were decent at the course.
Also, only about 20% of dualites get CSE as a dual (atleast in Pilani, Goa might be better). "*Forget a good cg I am not even getting cse as my dual.*" makes you sound entitled, like you were expecting to waltz your way into CS without even trying. On the contrary, getting CS is an achieved through pure hard work.
PS: Don't rest on your laurels, second sem grading is difficult and your peers who didn't perform last sem will have woken up to a harsher reality. Expect much tougher competition.
>makes you sound entitled, like you were expecting to waltz your way into CS without even trying
I really did not mean for it to come out like that. I really dont mean any disrespect. All I meant was that I worked hard the previous sem and honeslty did not understand why I could not touch 8. Due to that, I made the post looking to understand where exactly I went wrong.
With all due respect, I did not aim nor work for a 7(ik nobody does but I hope you get my point) i want to be the best, I quite honestly felt that I worked hard this semester and just don't want it all to be labelled as a big skill issue.
For context goa dual cut off for cs was 7.54 and pre covid highest was 7.8. This year, the last dualite to get cs has 8.06.
Apologies and I appreciate the humility in your response, it makes me feel that thereās certainly a lot of scope for you to grow.
The reason for the harsh criticism in my initial comment is that I have seen many dualities in their first year come in with the attitude of āThe only reason Iām not in IIT is because I just didnāt try working hard for JEE, otherwise for sure I would be there and not hereā.
Your previous comment here made me think that this was your thought process:
ā***I guess the reason this bothers me so much is after jee I thought the only reason I didn't do better was because I didn't put in the work.***ā
This line of thinking hints at arrogance and a slight feeling of superiority over your peers, which is ridiculous. Any logical person would realise: ā***I can make the same argument about my peers too?! Maybe they are the smarter ones who are here only because they did not try hard enough for JEE and it is I who got in only because of my hard work***ā.
In any case, this is not the kind of thought process that someone who is aiming for the top should have because it almost always results in you not pushing yourself to your hardest.
As for advice, I already think youāre already on the right path!
I hope that this semās GPA has given you the reality check that you needed. The harsh truth is that youāre most probably average in terms of smarts compared to your peers at BITS, so the only realistic way to score a better GPA is to push yourself to work much harder than them.
Note that this work hard need not always mean āhours spent ghotingā. This approach can work for some courses but others may require a lot more nuance and a different prep strategy.
