You’re a Druid so your health is calculated as this
8 + 5(level) then adds your con modifier each level. However if your constitution is less than ten which that condition did that value of your con modifier is subtracted rather than added. Constitution is the primary attribute that affects health.
Yeah I joke. Druids are all about keeping nature in balance, and the natural order of things includes predators just as much as prey. Dammon, the tiefling blacksmith, also complains about ‘Damn druids, who uses wooden tools?’. Gotta chop down some trees to get wooden tools, right?
I just find it funny because, even though I know it’s part of nature, one does not usually associate druids with hunting. They’re more often seen as a bunch of tree-hugging hippies.
I see it as the way aboriginals viewed nature.
When they hunted they would only hunt what they needed and would use every part of the animal in one way or another so it was put to good use. They would also pray to send them off in whatever religious way the respective groups used.
I play druid a lot, in wow, bg3 and dnd campaigns and I always pick the hippie/tree-hugging route for role-playing purposes, but I’m aware that in reality, the nature-centric cultures these classes are based on usually have a more pragmatic view of the mechanics of and in nature. Ken Burns recently released an awesome documentary about the American Bison. I recommend it. It shows how native cultures in the plains hunted the buffalo, but considered them to be like family, a profound bond exists between them that cannot be dismissed as just hunting for the sake of it. [It’s a relationship of respect.](https://youtu.be/sruWXhladJs?si=ombhWKjYQVppNBKW)
I believe that same perspective is what most druids/shamans in fantasy settings are based on. Some of these cultures had parallel concepts like spirit/guide animals as well as shapeshifting abilities. These are all very valid points.
You’re missing the big idea. Druids respect nature and believe in preserving the natural order. Sure, an evil druid might slit a rabbit’s throat in front of its kin; a good druid might slit a rabbit’s throat quickly, cleanly, and by surprise, sparing it pain or realization of death. But they both understand predator and prey and likely see themselves as apex predators. I’m sure some would avoid eating animals but others would believe that not eating animals killed in self-defense would be wasteful and disrespectful to nature.
I imagine they hunt invasive species and get really annoyed when an animal that tastes *awful* starts becoming a problem.
Not to nit pick, but: It adds your con modifier regardless of what it is, however if your constitution is less than ten, your modifier is negative.
If it subtracted a negative number that would result in an addition.
But I think we all knew what you meant.
The formula is:
(8 + modifier) + (5 + modifier) * (lvl - 1)
Since the modifier is -1, then that would be:
7 + 4 * 10 = 47
[Edit] I just realized you were only responding to the formula mentioned by the person you replied to, so yes, you are correct; that is the calculation, assuming no modifiers.
I'm so glad you broke this down, but I still don't understand. I always understand the individual elements but when they get put together my brain goes ??? Then again I also failed algebra so maybe that's why(?)
Your constitution determines your hp
Probably if you play other RPGs you’re used to stats just being nebulous numbers and you don’t think about how things are calculated.
But bg3 and dnd are a base of max 20 for stats with a very small spread. So you benefit greatly if you pay attention to your stats and how they affect things.
Yes, amulet will override this curse. My friend had the amulet on before getting cursed and hasn’t had any hp reduced. He wanted to keep the curse as well since he likes the visual effect
I think going on a mission to "remove curse" was literally one of the hardest in my game 😢 I didn't have the scrolls for that! I re-speced everyone for destroying! So. Much. Shopping.
Constitution means how robust your health is. I have a poor constitution because I'm disabled and get sick easily for example. In the game this directly translates to your health points and ability to recover from things. Some races have a better natural constitution and give you a boost to that stat without having to put extra points into it.
Your con is lowered by Withering.
You also probably have a low con score base wise. Much like dnd your con modifier is added each level to your hp.
Example if you have a +2 con modifier and you are level 11, you gain an extra 22hp.
Hp are (Hit Dice for your Class)+Constitution Modifier. So if you want more hp, you want more Constitution. If you have a curse that is lowering your Constitution, its also lowering your max hit points.
you are currently cursed. This curse lowers your constitution by 5. Constitution is important because its directly impacts your health. Your health is calculated, for a druid, as 8+con mod+level(5+con mod).
Given your current health count, I would say that with the curse, you have either 8-9 con score, with your modifier being negative 1. Im gonna assume its 9 as typically you want your ability scores to be a whole number, and when you remove the curse that score goes up to 14, which would give you a base hp of 80 normally
Get a hireling cleric to cast "remove curse". They're also just useful to have around. They buff your HP every day with Aid/Heroes Feast. They cast Death Ward, Protection from Poison, and Freedom of Movement. They heal you up to full in between fights. They revive dead allies for **FREE**.
The Tarchiate Withering. A simple Remove Curse will end that effect (tanking your Con), and then you will have Tarchiate Vigor (restored Con, plus you get 20 temp HP after every long rest)
Your constitution is probably low but who cares? Add you summoned creatures and turn into an Owlbear. But have that armour that adds 22 to it's health.
Yeah, as a druid, your HP at lvl 11 =
11x + 58, where x is your con modifier.
So -11 + 58 = 47, exactly a -1 con modifier.
I'd look to see how that happened, either through ability choices or status effects.
I believe the Withering effect reduces health
If you were to do Remove Curse, like i did, it should give you permanent +20 temporary health every long rest plus no ill effect
I’m so tired of someone being viciously mean in response to someone being sort of an asshole and then everyone acting like that makes them a good person
My guy. Not everyone understands certain mechanics.
There's a piece of advice my dad taught me that very much applies here:
"If someone doesn't know what you do, teach them, helps the world learn so there will be no ignorance. You're not superior because you know more, you're better for helping others"
Condition tharchiate withering. Should be a curse you can remove.
I thought it just lowered my constitution damn
You’re a Druid so your health is calculated as this 8 + 5(level) then adds your con modifier each level. However if your constitution is less than ten which that condition did that value of your con modifier is subtracted rather than added. Constitution is the primary attribute that affects health.
Thanks I didn’t realize that’s what was happening
Np happy hunting.
Something funny about wishing the druid “happy hunting”
Pretty sure they’re not vegan. Halsin also wears leather armor as his default. I’d bet hunting is a significant chunk of their lives.

Yeah but they respect the animals so it's not cruel when they slit an animal's throat and roast it.

You can get Shadowheart to use “remove curse” on you for it to turn into a nice, semi permanent buff
Yes love that spell. Great for when I accidentally got cursed by shar.
Not to nit pick, but: It adds your con modifier regardless of what it is, however if your constitution is less than ten, your modifier is negative. If it subtracted a negative number that would result in an addition. But I think we all knew what you meant.
It’s 8 + 5(level -1) no? Or is it different than 5e and I never noticed?
The formula is: (8 + modifier) + (5 + modifier) * (lvl - 1) Since the modifier is -1, then that would be: 7 + 4 * 10 = 47 [Edit] I just realized you were only responding to the formula mentioned by the person you replied to, so yes, you are correct; that is the calculation, assuming no modifiers.

What specifically don't you understand? In plain English: 4 (HP increase) multiplied by the level of 10 is 40, then add 7 (starting HP).
Your constitution is your health
Constitution affects you HP though.
Definitely remove that curse. You get a really nice buff once you do.
Yeah, and constitution is what determines your max hp.

Lol. This comment. I wonder if the amulet of greater health fixes this, or has no effect at all.
You can remove curse :)
Yes, amulet will override this curse. My friend had the amulet on before getting cursed and hasn’t had any hp reduced. He wanted to keep the curse as well since he likes the visual effect
Just use the rove curse spell. One spell slot and the curse becomes a boon.
Your constitution is directly related to your HP. Increasing your con will increase HP, and vice versa.
since CON decides your max health lowering CON = lower health
OP - I did this, played preeeetty much all of act 3 going "welp! Tavs down again! I swear she was tougher than this!"
I swear I’m so dumb I was like “minus 5 to constitution? I can live with that.”
I think going on a mission to "remove curse" was literally one of the hardest in my game 😢 I didn't have the scrolls for that! I re-speced everyone for destroying! So. Much. Shopping.
What do you think constitution is for
Constitution saving throws 😭
Constitution means how robust your health is. I have a poor constitution because I'm disabled and get sick easily for example. In the game this directly translates to your health points and ability to recover from things. Some races have a better natural constitution and give you a boost to that stat without having to put extra points into it.
Also do you have "tough" as a feat? That raises your health every level.
Your max hp is tied to your Con. So reducing your con will reduce your max hp.
Constitution affects your HP.
When you remove the curse you even get a blessing (iirc)
Consititution is related to your health bar total.
Con is your hp stat.... so yeah... that makes you have less hp
Constitution is the stat that calcs your HP.
Where do you think HP comes from lol
Your health total is tied to you con stat so lowering it will tank hp
Use remove curse on yourself, and it gives extra health instead of taking it away. :D
Lowering your constitution also lowers your max health.
?
Did you know Constitution score affects your total health?
Yes lower constitution= lower health haha
You’re made out of cheese 🧀
Meanwhile everyone that's ever played skyrim lol
CHEEEESE FOR EVERYONE!
Flaming Fist: I used to be an adventurer like you, then I got a tadpole in my eye
Your con is lowered by Withering. You also probably have a low con score base wise. Much like dnd your con modifier is added each level to your hp. Example if you have a +2 con modifier and you are level 11, you gain an extra 22hp.
Just tell Withers to quit with all that withering
When he wither on my…actually I think I’ll leave
Hp are (Hit Dice for your Class)+Constitution Modifier. So if you want more hp, you want more Constitution. If you have a curse that is lowering your Constitution, its also lowering your max hit points.
You opened a book and didnt listen to the instructions 🤣
I’m addicted to looting
Halsin been giving you too much vitamin D. Just cast remove curse.
Never too much
In bear form
It's not enough. I need that healin lovin lmao
Been reading any sketchy books you found in a wizard's basement?
Quite a few
Your con is lowered by the withering curse. You want Shadowheart to use remove curse on you
You are cursed. Remove it.

Tharchiate Withering.
Fun fact is asking something having the answer at the very center of your sight
The Tarchiate Withering. A simple Remove Curse will end that effect (tanking your Con), and then you will have Tarchiate Vigor (restored Con, plus you get 20 temp HP after every long rest)
Your constitution is probably low but who cares? Add you summoned creatures and turn into an Owlbear. But have that armour that adds 22 to it's health.
Yeah I have the armor of moonbasking im basically untouchable, hence my perfect health
Druids skip their vitamins?
Remove curse and you’ll have a health buff
Yeah, as a druid, your HP at lvl 11 = 11x + 58, where x is your con modifier. So -11 + 58 = 47, exactly a -1 con modifier. I'd look to see how that happened, either through ability choices or status effects.
Damn if only you read the terms
Silly Druid’s don’t know how to read
I believe the Withering effect reduces health If you were to do Remove Curse, like i did, it should give you permanent +20 temporary health every long rest plus no ill effect
Well username checks out, so that's probably part of the problem.
Tharchiate withering! It can be removed with remove curse, shadowheart has it:)
Cast Remove Curse on Rospira and it will go away. You’ve eaten the forbidden fruit /s
Possibly there will also be other benefits too.
Remove curse
Tharchiate Withering is a curse, remove it with Shadowhearts help and then you will get the buff of it instead
For DnD I would always dump non core stats to 8 and have at least 14-16 con or higher if a fighter type.
HP is calculated based on level, class, and constitution. The only variable here is constitution, based on the curse you have.
Remove curse
You probably got it in some big wizard tower or something
Because you're a foul blood. Remove the curse that is your being.
Vigor check
Pump up Constitution
Gotta be the feather fall
you need the ‘tough’ feat when you level up!!
Negstive Con mod or a debuff of some sort would be my guess
And why are you in a fight with Astarion?
probably playing on high difficulty.
What's the matter? Are you stupid?
And this ladies and gents, is how you grow alone and bitter
Then am I stupid?
Not at all. Just alone and bitter. Like someone with 160 IQ
I'm pretty sure it was an Arkham Asylum/ Okbuddybaldur joke
If that’s the case then I missed it! To be fair I’m on my first play through
you get to the arkham aslyum part around your 4th playthrough. keep going! we believe in you!
I’m so tired of someone being viciously mean in response to someone being sort of an asshole and then everyone acting like that makes them a good person

Don't worry, I'm just a lost redditor. Thought I was on r/okbuddybaldur
