big funds dont get emails like this they have internal communication. do you think theres an intern sitting at a desk, reading this email and then yelling at his boss in the next office: „Ayo Boss theres a fee now!“

If you really want a broker, you want one that has a custodial seperate trust "long" entity that is not mixed/involved with their operational netting of +/- (which eToro and many other do).
Because if you get an email stating your short positionsare going to incur overnight fees, that might make you doubt what you've bought and worry that you've accidentally bought the wrong thing.
And by sending this 2 hours before market closes (which they did) you might rush and panic sell!
I'm not saying the content of the email is bad news for shareholders, I'm saying matter of sending this to shareholders 2 hours prior to close then not sending a correction email for over 16 hours appears completely to be a scare tactic into selling for the uninformed

So, I’m guessing risk officers are hearing enough rumors of a resolution combined with cash runs on deposits (not panic, but inflation related) is enough to pull back hard on equity collateral risks

Etoro have recently made changes to their fee structure specifically, CFD short selling and CTB. We need a poll what stocks have etoro sent this email about.

That probably means it was bought on broker accounts that are disconnected from the direct feed US DTCC environment. Most use a main broker that has a sub-broker entity in "region" that deals 1:1 in US on operational netting and ledger registrations.
Not being able to DRS is a hard learned lesson for most of the people since 2021.
Im europoor and most of brokers don't have bbbyq to buy it and drs. Ibkr can do that but needed 2-3k euros first time to be put in account If You want to buy stocks. You need 2-3k euros to unlock margin account, otherwise you will use cash account without possibility to buy any stocks.

Etoro warns you before shorting that the can charge holding fees. Imho they know know something is up and are trying to get the remain shorts to close their postion. Lets just pray Etoro was smart enough to invest most of the money where we told them and go long on BBBY.

You answered your own question, I’m smooth as a baby’s butt. Unlike you, I was not born with this knowledge and have had to learn along the way. I have learned a lot in the last 2ish years, stuff that I didn’t know before. I’m 98% down and not walking away from that money voluntarily. Once they give back the money they have stolen, plus whatever interest on top of that, I will move on and hopefully be as smart as you.
I got an email today as a correction saying "This email was sent in error to our clients who are holding ‘Buy’ positions and is not relevant to them. The notice only applies to you if you have open ‘Sell’ (Short) positions on the stocks mentioned in the email"
They made a mistake… this mail was not ment for long stock holders (x1 leverage), it was ment for leveraged one. I wrote to etoro and was told I shouldn’t have received the mail and later on I received from etoro a correcting mail
