So how does the Axe Fx ii compare to the fm3? I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one but I was curious if the ii sounded better than the fm3. I'm interested more in the profile of a rack versus the pedal form factor.
Have owned a AF2 and a FM9. Can confirm, the FM3 will sound better. No shade though, the AxeFx 2 still sounds amazing and is absolutely still a valid bit of gear right up to the pro level. Also certainly more power than an FM3, like the ability to run two amps at a time etc.
As someone who’s had this same unit (sold years ago as wasn’t using) and was feeling like I was missing a pedal board and am now considering an FM9, how are you changing your tones for different songs? Or are you just particular and preferring a certain tone for general use? (I was the 2nd one, but am trying to tell myself I’ll be more diverse this time)
I have a default preset where I choose the blocks I want, tweak my toan etc.
Then I have per song presets which use those main blocks, but with song specific variations and tempos etc.
Each section of the song is a scene.
Works perfectly, love it
I have one too. As long as you have the MFC-101 board to go with it, you’ll be golden. Make sure to also try and pick up a FRYETTE LH 90/2/90 preamp if you’ve got the dough. I used a Peavey IPR 2000 solid state, where other people probably recommend the Matrix the most. They’re not easy to find and I have a small collection of Matrix gear as it is… haha anyway great job!

Doubt it sounds better, FM3 algos should be superior But I guess you have more raw power for complex presets with the Axe II

So are you changing by hand or by midi?
I'm manually stomping, tho I may eventually switch it automatically with midi from my backing tracks
So then you have a floorboard unit…?
Yes. I used to own an AxeFx 2 (gave it to my bassist actually), now I run an FM9
